potential cheating

Postby markleadon on Thu Mar 12, 2009 3:59 pm

2 players - same address are playing in the same game

Another player tipped us off (he is not playing in this game). The 2 players have now said they are brothers/

Whether they are or not remains to be seen but do people think this game should be scrapped.

What should I do? I have sent my concerns to 1 person on the cheating forum. anything else/ or am i over reacting?

Does it seem like they're cheating? I wouldn't be bother playing two brothers if everything was on the up and up.
No matter what, the game won't be deleted, so you might as well do your best to win. If it seems like they're playing unfairly, foe them so you don't end up in their games again, and make a report in C&A.

Honest answer is that 1 is taking AUS, 1 SA so they are at opposite sides of board squeezing middle. However, what worries me is that surely they could be discussing tactics - could even be the same person. I would go as far as saying that you should not even play wth another person that you know let alone in the same family

Preconceived teams and secret alliances are illegal in singles games, so watch their actions closely and if you sense there is foul play? Do as Bald Adonis suggested and post them on the Cheat & Abuse Forum.

I suppose potential is the key word here as I just looked at the game in question and did not see any obvious improprieties. One of the brothers did attack the other early on (of course it's only Round 6) and with them currently positioned on opposite ends of the map it will be awhile before they are in a direct conflict again. Two players in the same game using the same computer access will always look bad, even if they have no bad intentions and just want to play. So singles should obviously be avoided to prevent these awkward situations from ever happening.

The fact that they did say "they are brothers" in the game chat leads me to believe they did not join this game with the intent of cheating anyone.

Really ?
Not even play somenoe you know ?
That's a bit extreme don't you think ?
I joined up here with the express intention of whooping some of my buddies.
As we're now "All Grown up" with wives and kids, the old gaming nights around a classic board are few and far between.
This seems like the perfect solution to us.

And We genuinely LOVE killing each other.
No helping each other out at all, I wouldn't trust them

As long as you're playing fairly, there's nothing wrong with playing against friends. Although, you should keep in mind that certain settings are more likely to lead to accusations of cheating than others. For example, 3 way games between 2 friends, and a stranger tend to look pretty fishy. Especially if the stranger is getting his ass kicked.

Can you give us the game and the players? Then I think we can make better calls and contridictions over this. Maybe a final solution to it as well.

And what of people you meet through CC? ... What of people you see in the forums?

The truth is that if someone wants to cheat, they will. There are always going to be a few who will buck whatever system is in place. Put anyone you don't wish to play on your foe list and move on to the hundreds of thousands here who are not cheats.
