ACCOUNT SITTING

Postby the egg on Fri Feb 06, 2009 9:52 pm

Account sitting is obviously displeasing numerous people. It can be easily abused, and lately it has been used in SPEED games often. Account sitting is much less prevalent in casual games. But in speed games it exists. Account sitting angers people severely, and what is the point of it!? To save 20-30 points when it is YOUR fault that YOU joined and had to go? Account sitting needs some rules before it gets out of control. People are bending the rules.

--------------

Account Sitting can be and has been abused in the following ways. List is not all inclusive.
[list]
[*]In a 1 v 1 speed game, one that is a basic stalemate (this is possible!) a player may drop out and have another player sub in for him / her, and beat the other dude who deadbeats.
[*] In team games a player on a team sits for his partners; this can lead to (especially in casual games with uncommon partners) a general subbing in for a cook, helping the team very much.
[*] To flame one who has you foed

--------------------

My outlook:

Account Sitting rouses anger more than it makes people content. I would rather have you dead beat than have somebody substitute for you. You play your OWN game. Nobody should do it for you. Plain and Simple.

how about first you learn to stick to playing ONE ACCOUNT... as far as babysitting goes, you are not getting rid of it... here is a 37 page monster thread that goes over all the account sitting issues (maybe not speed, since that is relatively new, i am not sure, i didn't wade through it all again), and many admins, mods, and a former global mod weigh in.

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=49899&hilit=account+sitting+issues+new+rule

i don't think babysitting is something that you are going to get rid of, it is something within the fabric of CC. many clans, real life friends, CC friends, cover for each other in games when real life gets in the way. this is covered in the thread i posted above. your statement that it angers more people than it pleases is just a blatant mis-statement. show me the data. go to that thread and much of what you are stating as fact is just proven wrong. your own personal feelings towards how people are treating you and your new account in games truly do not shed light on any true abuses of babysitting. this is not an issue like farming, where people are using it as an advantage to gain points and places on the scoreboard. perhaps you should stick to posting in C&A each time you feel you have been wronged by someone in a speed game. changing the babysitting rules isn't the answer to your problem, and it isn't going to happen because of one busted players bad experiences on CC with his new account... the black jesus has spoken, and declared babysitting ok...-0

All right, thanks for the link. And STOP tagging my posts and inserting a comment about multiple accounts will ya? It's annoying, you're the only one who does it. Just stop! I have not made any more accounts! That issue is cleared over! Apparently I have learned to stick to playing one account as you can see.

Putting guidelines on specific gameplay types is... just dumb, especially those guidelines. I believe a simple rule that Account Sitting needs to be declared in public game chat, and cannot be used to circumvent the Foe List, is a simple request.

And, of course, anyone not declaring an account sitting gets blocked from the account sittee. Seems like a good deterrent.

i agree with kotaro 100%!! that does seem like the best and obvious solution. however, it has yet to become a declared or written rule. twill just stated in a recent thread that it was a courtesy, not a rule... but i do agree with kotaro that it seems the best and logical solution.

and to the eggs comment/request

it is a valid point, and not nearly as annoying as your cheating with multiple accounts. please don't play innocent within the forums. and furthermore, to make it even MORE valid, i don't think abusive babysitting is the reason for what is going on with you in games. i think it is because of your recent transgressions, bust and repurchase of premium. if you can't see how one relates to the other, than i can't help you. and believe me, i am not the only person that is mentioning it and annoyed at how it was all handled. if you don't want it discussed, then you never should have done it. period.
you can't change what you did, and people around here seem to have long memories... the black jesus has spoken...-0

This appears more suited to General Discussion than Suggestions & Bug Reports since there is no specific suggestion here. Hence moved accordingly.

If the OP thinks otherwise please send me a PM.

Well actually, you have managed to stick to one account for a very short space of time. Am I to assume from your remark that you feel this is long enough to vindicate your actions? If so, then the answer has to be no. Owen may be the only poster who was ensuring others who knew no better were warned about your account dumping, but by responding in this way, you have brought the fact that you illegally exited one account to the attention of many more. perhaps if you had stayed within the rules and kept your one account, instead of illegally dumping your other account, then those who arrive at the site would not be aware of your illegally dumping your other account. if you want people to stop tagging about your multiple accounts, all you have to do is not go round acting illegally regarding these accounts.

Here's a thought - I lost power and internet access in the ice storm. Power came back quickly, internet access did not. From my phone, I PM'd a clanmate and had him cover my games so I wouldn't deadbeat.

This has been debated over and over as Owen pointed out.

(And for the record, I agree with him. I don't have a personal beef with you, but you are foed on general principle of multis and how the site handles them.)

But you probably won't ever see babysitting banned...only specific users if they use it for strategic purposes instead of just covering real life problems...and even then, it's very hard to prove. (See also Johnnyrockets24 and his ongoing quest in that area...)

um... i don't think a suggestion about keeping babysitters from reading your PM's while babysitting is really what the OP is after... that is solved simply enough, only have people you REALLY know babysit for you. you are ultimately responsible for your account and anything a babysitter does while sitting your account. so, choose your sitters wisely. i understand your issue, but i don't think it is relevant to what the busted OP is discussing... the black jesus has spoken...-0

Well yes, his idea was moderately bad, but that doesn't mean the idea isn't valid, nor that it needs to be moved to GD.

Nice burn Timminz.

This is in GD more because it's asking the CC community if they like babysitting or not, right?

i didn't have the heart to point that glaring mistake out... i mean, CC revolves around speed games, right?    ...-0
