Don't like it too much either, but regular expressions are not that intuitive. An autocomplete-thingy after you typed 2 characters would be nice though, maybe it even doesn't have to go to the server (though I think it should).
Why would anyone want a partial match on different tournaments anyway? That's a rare usecase.

And I am impressed that Lack made the dice stats work without too much of a slowdown of the site. A good way to shut up most dice complainers.

Autocomplete can be easily done with static data as well - just print a JSON array somewhere and that's all - like 30 minutes of work.

Also, now it is impossible to search for tournaments like "TLO 2009" because the result shows both "TLO 2009" and "TLO 2009 II".

The point of the update was to get rid of the long list as well as to only have to type in a partial name in order to find your tournament games. The second part doesn't work because there are so many tournaments that share partial names that the games listed become unwieldy. And you can't just check the Ongoing box as that checks for ongoing games, not ongoing tournaments, meaning it's useless for recording finished games.

What if I want to search only the games I have participated in? Or played with my partner?

I'm summarized some of the major issues, concerns, and suggestions regarding the Find a Tournament Update. We'll be looking these over.

Yeah, agreed. I hadn't really looked at the tournament finder, but it is only useful in some cases. Mostly for historical data.
But:

As an organiser, I'd like to see whether games since last time I checked were finished in my tournament.
As an organiser, I'd like to see whether there are any games waiting for players in my tournament.

As a player, I'd like to check out future opponents, which games they won/lost.
As a player, I'd like to see how many points I have or current opponents have (if it's point-based).

Those are the cases in which I used the game finder, and they became harder (though not impossible) with the current setup.

True, and what Nights mentioning as well. Yours is a bit easier to find since you're only in the 1 tlo for 2009, but Nights more holistic second example(issue) is more difficult. However, it isn't completely impossible to solve if you can correctly use a combination of the game and tournament finder, whereas before this update that was even more difficult...

Sherk's point seem to be the most difficult, and I guess where knowing the whole name of a tournament is most important?

Ahoy Everyone,

Can we compile a list of examples of Tournaments that have been difficult to find/deal with because of this new update? That'll allow us to look into a few things better.

Andy just tell lack to change it back to the old system until qwerts suggestion can be implemented.his suggestion is pretty much perfect for TO's to host tournaments.he even created a pic in the thread to point lack in the right direction.viewtopic.php?f=535&t=128086

this update is bad ,i just tried to enter Sniper's 1v1 iwo jima and it kept saying No matching games found. i had to copy and paste the title in the thread to the one in game finder to get the game numbers it just annoying now. i wont be starting another tournament until this is fixed as it makes it very difficult for TO's to organise tournaments now.

I put some examples of issues I am having in one of these threads somewhere--I will hopefully have some time to make a good list sometime this weekend

because it was needed/yes/yes
I dont like what has been done, but the inactive tourny's added a lot of data. data not used by the majority of the people. less data used is more speed for games...
overall it was a good idea, just... the implementation can be .. i hope... better..

there was a problem the list was too long. qwert suggested it be split into active and finished lists which would have solved the issue but lack went and done something which now hinders TO's.

I know a little bit about databases so I do not really understand why the drop down box was just not changed to choose between inactive and active tourneys?

Just my thought

Is this a known issue yet?

I think apostrophe is stripped from the query in terms of security and your name changes into "HAs 200th Tourney" which yields 0 results.

Myself and two others I know of tried tour stats and it just does nothing at all. Not sure if it does anything behind the scenes

It is a known issue - already a bug in tools forums. We are waiting for the fix (if it can be done, though I quite doubt it).

Sorry, not sure if I understand you. HighlanderAttack's problem is solvable (proper escaping, not letting the database-escaped thing go back to the browser, but the html-escaped variant).
I think lack will pick it up from either thread, but it would be nice to have the part in this thread split up and moved to the bugs-forum.

He is talking about tournament stats script that used previous select to base its results off (tnid).

I think after two days now my biggest problem is trying to do the invites.

I can get to the games, but when I try to do invite after invite the page does not refresh back to the page where I was doing the invites but to all available games to be joined.

I can find the games I need, but do not want to keep going back to game finder time and time again just to do invites

The other problem was the Tour Stats

I am sure these are two relatively easy fixes

Of course having a drop down box like we used to have is much easier
