Volunteer Discussions Moderator -- Open Application Callout

Postby AndyDufresne on Tue Apr 13, 2010 11:47 am

Ahoy Ahoy Conquer Club Members!

As a part of some Team CC Reorganization, and to fill in some recent departures and reshuffles, we'd like to add some bananas to the Team. That's where you all come in.

We're holding an Open Application Callout in this forum to fill a couple positions of:
Volunteer Discussions Moderator

As you may have read in the Team CC Reorganization Announcement, Volunteer Discussions Moderators will act as more helpful guides and knowledgeable posters, keeping an eye on the Questions & Answers, General Discussion, and Off Topics forums---rather than being the "brutish/maniacal/hard-nosed police-baton-twirling" enforcers of disciplinary measures. So helpful and active (I stress this!) Volunteers are needed.

So Discussions Moderator Volunteers, in conjunction with Global Moderator Volunteers, will keep an eye on the Discussions Forums (Q&A, Off Topics, and General Discussion) as necessary, and will be primarily responsible for keeping the Forums in good working and posting order.

Open Applications
will be open for an undetermined period of time, but I encourage those interested to apply earlier rather than later if you are interested. So if you would like to apply to the position, please follow these instructions below.

To Apply, send a Private Message to AndyDufresne. Include the following in the Body of the PM:

    Subject Heading: Discussions Application

    Username: <your text here>
    Reasons/Interests For Applying: <your text here>
Qualifications/Attributes Beneficial to the Position: <your text here>
Normal Forum Activity Level: <your text here>
Links (to your Posts/Topics that show your personality) and Any Discussion Why: <your text here>

The more details you provide initially---the better, so don't worry about "writing too much" or being too much a banana-wind-bag.

Bananas for all, especially those that apply!

Will the people in this position moderate discussions in all three fora, or will they be assigned to particular ones (i.e GD VDM, Q&A VDM)?

A Discussions Volunteer has access to tools in all 3 of those sub-fora.

As ManB mentioned, volunteer Discussions Moderators will look over all three of the mentioned forums. Their "moderation" as mentioned in the Team Reorganization announcement, and slightly elaborated in this topic in my post, is not less focused on the "Disciplinary Side" of moderating, and more on the facilitating of discussion, guidance, and spotting troubles as necessary. Volunteer Discussions Moderators still will be able to lock/move/merge/split topics and posts as necessary, as that is an integral part of facilitating discussion in these forums. But disciplinary actions---vacations, warnings, etc, are not principal things for volunteer Discussions Moderators.

i think the titles moderator and volunteer are being split.
volunteer is the poeple who are the eyes and ears of the forum, have basic mod tools to lock etc etc and report to the dept head (moderator)
who then has the power to issue bans etc etc.

This is a callout for those volunteer type people. So essentially a moderator without the power to ban people and see certain sensitive info. That is in the hands of admin and dept. heads.

I could be wrong on all of this...

You are fair, familiar with site processes, have a history of providing valuable forum supports and are of quality mod material. Thats why I nominated you.

We sure can't let slosshyboy be unopposed.

Seeing that Army of God is a devout follower of BigBallinStalinism, I believe he's the man for this job.

If he didn't apply, then TheForgivenOne has my stamped approval.

But if Army of God did apply, then ignore the last sentence.

Andy, bananas via mail won't be necessary for my nomination services.

Sincerely,
BigBallinStalin

I will apply, although I'm unsure of exactly what I should be doing (which I suppose would disqualify me automatically).

You can post your support for those that make it known they've submitted an application here. It always good to see already has built up good will and reputation with a community.
