Hmmm, I got one of these too, but I don't think I belong in such august company. The five gentlemen posted above rock way harder than I do. Well done, fellas.

Also TaCktiX authored the foundry newsletter, not the tournament newsletter.

Good lord, you got a fat stack of 'em... don't take this the wrong way, but if you have 5 general contribution medals, then chip should have, like, fifty.

I guess CC will move towards the idea the GC medals are just another medals and it should be possible to earn 30 of them.

No I fully agree with you. I had 6, but they fixed one. Anyhow I agree that these now will become too common, though not as common as a tournament or map medal I assume? 50 might be too few. 100 might be better!

It's just weird that wacicha has one medal for starting the society of the cooks, and you've got five for working there... I'm not saying you're not deserving of recognition, just that perhaps a single medal for your endeavors there might be more appropriate. It's not like I got a medal for every map I stamped. Plus the idea of getting a contribution medal, which at the moment would appear to be the highest honor CC can bestow on a user, for a mere three months of contribution in any capacity, when there are so many other people past and present like chip and yeti and sherkaner and jota and various mods/hunters/etc that have put years into this site... I'll be honest, it does tarnish the medal a bit.

The strange thing for me is that, while I do feel like I made a positive contribution to the foundry as a map stamper, I arguably made just as large a contribution in the months and years before that as just another voice in the masses. There's quite a few maps out there that I like to think I had a positive impact on, but it's like I got a medal for serving in a position rather than the good work itself. I dunno, just kind of odd.

Well I think they really just needed to put a name on it. I'm sure you know the guys in charge of the Foundry know you more personally and have known you for longer than to stick a superficial ribbon on your horse.

Also, Bruce, I'd compare your 5 to an award for every script or add-on developed. Not trying to gang up on ya, but I'm with Inc it takes away from the je ne sais quoi about the medal.

The best uses of the General Contribution medals are still being worked out and tweaked as we go.

Well, then, not to tell you your business, but it might have been a better idea to get that sorted before handing them out, to save yourselves the potential spectacle of having to retract previously-awarded medals.

I suppose the real thing is this: someone getting a General Contribution medal used to be a Big Deal. And this is not to say I don't appreciate getting one, it's just that I want to feel like I've earned it, rather than what seems like a situation where the bar has been substantially lowered.

Some Department Policies were already decided upon when it was realized that they weren't the same across all departments. It's currently being taken care of.

Yes, we will settle the standard of medal distribution of each CC member for his services. Now GC medals won't be exclusive and their numbers will be pushed to 250 I think. So it will still be elitist, but not the unique and Big Deal.

Contribution for 6 months Team CC service, lol.

Has anyone not been on Team CC for 6+ months? Besides the great newtonboy/sw0rdfish and Hyrasi, of course.

I think the thing is here that the medal formerly known as special contribution was not actually meant as a super-exclusive medal, but somehow ended up as such on account of so few people getting one which in turn probably was on account of not having clear guidelines as to when & what for this medal should be awarded. Now the medal has gained a reputation of being an "elite" medal, and while CC is beginning to rectify this by converting the medal more towards the kind of trophy it was originally intended to be, people are getting pissed because their "special prize" doesn't feel so "special" anymore.

That about sums it, eh?

Completely correct. As an addendum, it became super-exclusive because only the admins were allowed to give them out, but they only considered people something like once a month (if even that often) so few were granted. Now that all Team Leaders can grant the medals, it's much easier to get them out more frequently for a variety of contributions.
