A proper warning would have been nice

Postby nagerous on Thu Jan 08, 2009 9:19 am

I have an inkling how this thread is going to end, it is either going to resort to flaming and be moved to flame wars, or this and a bunch of possible similar threads are going to be merged into one and eventually locked and owenshooter will be used as a scapegoat for his "constant annoying Pms."

However, I would like to redress my grievances, so yesterday I log in to hotmail, with an email in my account saying: Disciplinary Measures. Wondering, what I could have done, I open the e-mail with a bit of suspicion, however with alarm this is what I read:

"Hello nagerous,

Your account has been issued a Forum Ban, which prevents posting in the forum and accessing private messages.

Term of ban: 24 hours

Issued by: Twill

Comment:

Good day to you.

Owenshooter, the leader of the Bandits, has requested that his image be considered personal information and thus removed based on warnings given in previous threads. Because a warning was given here: viewtopic.php?p=1773062#p1773062 that your sig banner would be considered in the same way, and owen continued to push for this to be used as the standard, we are hereby placing all members using this banner on a 24 hour forum vacation, as per Owen's wishes, as stated here: viewtopic.php?f=239&t=74210

Please remove any personal images or information from your signature as soon as you return.

Yes, this is petty, but you may want to tell Owen that he should be careful how much he trolls the mods. Annoying and pestering to push your own agenda is never a good move.

Enjoy your time off

Regards,
The Conquer Club"

So, it appears I was banned for a period of 24 hours, for having a signature with pictures in it that I have had for over 6 months now with nothing told to me that I could not do this. Twill says in this email that he gave a prior warning, I do not call that a prior warning, I had not even read that thread before, as I saw the situation as nothing to do with me and instead a problem between DaGip and one of my clanmembers Owenshooter. Owenshooter had claimed that DaGip was using his picture unauthorised, all the bandits who had the sig and all the pictures in it had been given authorisation. If Twill wanted me to take down my signature, he could have just PMed me like a normal decent human being and I would have done so immediately, like I have done already. Not just given me a sudden ban straight away. During these 24 hours, I couldn't access important Pms and I also, couldn't post in my mafia games, which one of them was crucial to the game setup that I should have had to post as I now missed the lynch.

If I had done something wrong, I would have understood the ban, but banning me and a bunch of other CC members for 24 hours, the majority of them who have clean records and no prior infractions on the website just seems like completely the wrong idea, without a PM warning for a signature that has been branded across the whole forums for over 6 months seems completely wrong. I don't mean to sound whining but I just feel like the CC administration has committed yet another abuse of it's power against people it doesn't like and I was made a scapegoat.

I would like to state my agreement with what Nagerous said. This forum ban was, excuse my french, complete bullshit. In the thread in which Owenshooter pushed for a ban for DaGip, it is statet that it is company policy to first send a "friendly reminder", then an "official warning" and only THEN, if the user in question is not complying, a ban.

Where was my friendly reminder?
Where was my warning?

I expect an apology. And not one that ends with "..., but owen...".

Completely agree. This was a POW camp tactic. I would like to assure the administration that I have no intention whatsoever to chastise Owen on their behalf (regardless of whether or not I agree with his methods for challenging their policies). Do your own goddam dirty work!

I like the touch "a previous warning was given in this random thread." While the thread was hilarious it had nothing to do with the Bpb members, making it a bit of a sad excuse for banning them all right off the bat. I hope at least this BS ban won't go on their "record" so that next time there's an excuse to ban a bunch of innocent bystanders it won't be a month according to the Twill codex of arbitrary rules and random guidelines

You know in Star Trek when a Borg gets disconnected from the hive mind?

Picture Mr C compulsively clicking his inbox only to find...

"You are not authorised to read private messages."

"Why?"

Imagine Mr C clicking on his profile to only find...

"You are not authorised to read private messages."

"gaaahhh!!!!"

The real emotional torment ;) of it all was having absolutely no idea why. I thought there was a problem with the website for at least half an hour.

Of course, I don't think I am the kind of member who would normally recieve bans so I had no clue as to what was going on at all.

With regards to the problem at hand...

Owen has stated that no one is allowed to post personal information. Owen is posting his own image (and there seems to be some confusion as to whether the image is owen or possibly a rotund Michael Jackson with the whole white/black issue) and so is therefore breaking the rules. Therefore the sig. is breaking the rules owen has been banging on about.

Hmm...

Trick is, it seems to me that vace can change the clan sig. I can't. I like the clan sig. and I like sporting it and I'll be buggered if I am going to mess around with my profile because of an entirely spurious argument between Twill and owenshooter.

Secondly, I am a paying customer (and have found the site 5 others). I did nothing wrong, yet had a service taken away from me as a way of pressuring another paying customer on this site. Maybe Owenshooter deserved a ban (though I honestly don't have an opinion either way on that), but I sure as hell didn't. I've been an active, pleasant member here and shouldn't have been dragged into it. Asking me to mess around with my profile is also out of line as, again, I am a paying member of this site and am not breaking any rules wearing the current sig.

And I am not counting made up rules either.

haha, i love pretty much all you dirty bandits that i know.....

but i do have to say, this was a very unsubtle message to you that owen needs to get a life and stop giving shit to the mods.....whether you like it or not, try to tell him to rein it in......just think for a second: if someone was giving your clan lots of shit, you would find it reasonable to apply pressure to that person with creative means.....

all this of course assumes that owen was bombing their inboxes......not much of a stretch to imagine that, tho.....

Why? The comparison is valid as far as I can see. A group of innocent people were retaliated against because of the actions of one person who happened to be a member of that group. Pretty straight analogy.

Well that would be a reasonable assumption Jeff but I think you are overlooking that Mel Gibson is also in the clan. So the same improvised rule applies because he's posting personal information of the Man Without A Face...

Owen got the same vacation you did, but for posting other people's pictures in the sig. Gip got a vacation for trolling Owen. Hecter got a vacation for trying to piss the mods off by re-posting the "offending" signature.

And why didn't you get a warning? Because (here comes the "but owen" part) when DaGip got a warning, it was not good enough for Owen
how does he receive a warning for something he was already previously banned for?

Seeing as he had not actually been previously banned for it, but Owen was pushing for us to skip that "due process" because it wasn't good enough for him. And Owen had been warned that this is where his pushing would lead, not you. The warnings linked in the PM you got were just to point out that Owen knew exactly what was coming if he pursued it. He chose to pursue, I followed through, simple as that.

But yes, you're right. You all should have gotten warnings first. And that image shouldn't have been considered personal info because there's no way it's identifiable as Owen. And Owen should have dropped it after Gip got warned.

So, please accept my apologies for following through on your clan leaders request.

This is the only persons definition of newbie farming that matters. What don't you understand about it? You can cry, bicker, and pull your hair out all you want about what you define as farming but don't expect it to amount to anything. Here's my advice: Go buy a pillow, draw a farmer on it with marker, and proceed to pummel it every time you see a game that resembles your individual definitions of farming. Channel those frustrations and built up anxieties into some physical exercise that will actually result in something constructive. You're pulling teeth at this point with the finger pointing. The rules are here. Let's just see who can and can't follow them, shall we? Let the score resets and CC bans begin!

Herpes, you're blatantly baiting here, and you've been baiting people for some time. If you don't know the definition of baiting, check the forum guidelines where it spells it out for you.

Keep flames and baits in flame wars, not in GD.

Regards,
The Conquer Club

Personally, I can't get enough of Twill's Disciplinary Measure messages. I save every one of them in my inbox and immediately print them out to put them on my fridge along with my to don't list. They are always so polite, informative, and uplifting(Where else do you get an offer for a free vacation?). Plus he always gives you that signature wink to make you question his real agenda, which always makes me blush and twist my right foot into the ground. I'd be lost in these forums if it wasn't for him following me around and fixing my tie while giving me a well needed prep talk.

Nope. It means that, when people like owen and hecter get in the thread with Twill, he can reinforce the "don't be annoying rule" as much as he damn well pleases. And since it's Owen, can whine and moan all you want, but you know he's going to be intentionally annoying, and intentionally troll, until he gets his way.
