Postby TheSaxlad on Thu Jun 10, 2010 2:27 am

I have been in some exams recently and I wondered whether the concept of an exam hall map would be interesting idea.

Gameplay: Each Person starts off with x number of tables ( yet to be decided.) They work there way through conquering the invigilators, ( different neutral numbers again unsure of the numbers) and through to the bags and the door. ( Bags and door will be higher numbers of neutrals than the invigilators.) The door is protected by a high numbered invigilator once youve conquered 2 invigilators a bag space and the door you win the game. There is another way to win however. For all the naughty kids out there, you can grab a firework (neutral), Set it off, grab your bag and jump out a window!(Neutral as well)!

Changes Enacted:
[Version 1] Pg.1 Industrial Helix: Legend For Map [ADDED 16/06/2010]
[Version 1.1] Pg.2 Industrial Helix & Evil DiMwit: Added Alternative Wording To Invigilators.[ADDED 18/06/2010]
[Version 1.1] Added Texturing To Tables and Doors [ADDED 18/06/2010]
[Version 1.2] Added Texturing To Doors and Legend [ADDED 20/06/2010]
[Version 1.2] Added Names to all Spaces [Tables A1- H5] and Invigilators/Proctors,Bags [1/2] and Door [ADDED 20/06/2010]
[Version 1.2] Changed Layout for front tables and other exam room objects. [ADDED 20/06/2010]

Action Plan:
Re-do Bags
Add Windows
Add Firework
Figure Out How To Do Invigilators/Proctors
Re-do Legend To Comply with new gameplay.

Any other things people might want to consider [ note: im trying to keep this map quite simple as it's my first but any suggestions welcome!]

Ok thats about it Please comment and give new ideas so I can take this out of the melting pot and into the foundry!

Thanks Muchly.

I just finished my exams too and find this to be an awesome idea.
Just make sure the map isn't too symmetrical because you've got rows and columns of tables aligned with each other.

Worst case scenario, you might be able to escape out a window ;-)

look at the third crusade map, it has a winning condition of holding jerusalem, antioch, a starting position, and the vatican or granada at the start of your turn. I think it would be interesting if you had to hold a desk, a bag, an invigorator, and the door in order to escape your exam and win the game. You can obviously still win the traditional way of killing everyone, but the winning condition adds a twist that a lot of people like.

Just a few side notes: jerusalem, antioch, the vatican, and granada all start neutral (like your ideas w/ the bags, invigorators, and door). Then there are 8 starting positions and 1 person automatically starts on each position, you could have 8 desks like that (or 12 since CC may increase the number of players allowed in a game). I don't know, I would suggest playing third crusade a few times and if you like that style, start with the idea something like that.

I like this idea :)

I actually think this would be a really good idea, is the OP going to respond? If not, I would be interested in attempting this soon (after my finals)

What's an invigilator?

And why are there bags involved?

Ok Helix. In an exam there are the students represented by the tables.
Also the bags are the students which have to be taken off so they can't cheat etc etc.
The invigilators are the people, usually adults who stand at the front o make sure noones cheating in the exam.

Now to leave the exam hall in real life you need your bag and the invigilator needs to let you out so thats why the bags are involved.

Any Other Questions?#

EDIT: In Britain we call them invigilators. The Americans might have another word for it and if they/you do please tell me it and I will use it in my legend to make it easier for everyone.

In the U.S. they're called proctors.

Is this a map about sneaking out of an exam hall during the exam? Why would you ever want to do that?

Disclaimer: Stay off drugs, kids. Then you can grow up to be a successful and stunningly good-looking cartographer like me.

Second disclaimer: "Invigilator" totally sounds like something from Harry Potter to me.

Disclaimer to second disclaimer: I guess they technically are something from Harry Potter. So that's fine then.
