Pool C is the first to determine its two advancing teams. Canada and USA will now duel to determine the pool winner.

In other news, we have had four teams eliminated to this point, and all were at the bottom of the pre-tournament rankings: No. 16 Puerto Rico (0-2), No. 15 Venezuela (1-2), No. 14 Cuba (0-2) and No. 13 Italy (0-2). Maybe there's some weight to these rankings.

Korea became the latest team to punch a ticket to Round 2, defeating China in Pool A Game 3.

Also, I switched posts 2 and 3 to move the standings high up in the thread.

The Dominican Republic is into the second round after a Game 5 victory over Panama in Pool D. In Pool A, Korea became the first team to skate through the round, taking down China in Game 3.

Canada exacts a bit of revenge and hands the United States its first defeat, taking the Pool C title in the process.
Game 4338618
The two have a chance to meet again in Round 2, and I know the Dominican Republic is collectively drooling at a chance to take on the Yanks.

China performs the eighth and final elimination of the first round, defeating Japan in Game 4401141. The Chinese will now face Korea for the Pool A title.

Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic has won Pool D, winning three straight games after dropping the opener to the Netherlands. The most recent win, in a rematch against the Dutch, has set up a Round 2 matchup with the DR's archenemy, the United States. Expect some beanballs and throwdowns in this one. Canada and the Netherlands face off in the other Pool 2 opener.

Yeh, the Dominican Republic (DR), made up of members of the Double Rainbow Society (DRSers?) are on a roll. Got some clutch "hitting," and we're rolling to another win. So far, there have been no beanballs, but a few tasteless comments from the Dominicans (I have crass teammates).

The final two games of the first round are complete. Korea finished off Pool A with a win over China, and Mexico defeated Australia to win Pool B. Korea and Mexico were the only teams to go undefeated in the first round.

Pool 1 games will be out shortly.

Yes, China and the Dominican Republic have won their respective Game 3s, and are through to the semifinals. Meanwhile, Mexico and Korea, and the US and the Netherlands are battling to avoid the first eliminations of the second round.

We are down to seven teams after third-ranked Korea (4-1) defeats No. 8 Mexico (3-2). Korea now faces Australia in another elimination game. Loser goes home, winner makes the semis.

In other news, Major League Baseball's owners have unanimously condemned the World Baseball Classic, as MLB is several weeks into the regular season, and top players such as Blitzaholic and Shatners Bassoon have yet to report to their teams.

Sorry for the delay, folks. Out-of-town vacation + a workplace that is getting fed up with my procrastinating ways = not much time for conquerclub.

No. 1 USA eliminated No. 4 Netherlands to bring the number of teams remaining down to six. The United States (3-2) will now face off against North American rival Canada (4-2) for a chance in the semifinals. Canada and USA have split two meetings during this tournament.

Yes, as Big Whiskey mentioned, Australia eliminated Korea from the tournament. Australia has locked a spot in the semis, and will face China to determine the Pool 1 winner. One spot in the semis is still up in the air as the USA and Canada face off.
