Good luck to everyone...the first-round matches in the Aussie Open have been sent out, and I'll probably get the Davis Cup tourney started in the next few days as well.

Let's try to keep the pace of play moving, so players aren't waiting too long for the next "weeks" tournaments to get started.

Yes...the first two sets of each match will be settings...chained, flat, sunny
The third set will be settings...chained, no spoils, foggy

Early results are in for the Aussie Open and four have already advanced into the second round...an yes, I was an early victim...out in round one

Bracket updated...more than half of the first-round matches are complete...available second-round matches have been sent out.

The Davis Cup bracket is also post...end of the first post under the initial player signups...captains have been contacted to set their doubles/singles lineups and I'm hoping to get games out for the quarterfinal round by mid-week.

Just a suggestion, but in the semi's and final of the Davis Cup maybe each player could play one singles rubber and the top 2 moneywinners could play doubles?

Well...once you get to the decisive third set it goes to no spoils and fog, so there's always that to look forward to

Never a fan of playing in the brutal heat of the Australian open (12 territory start ) Plash Ricrem comes out swinging taking down 19th seeded vykingsfan in straight sets (5024807, 5024806). When asked after the match how he was able to overcome some early jitters (vikes getting the first drop in both games) Ricrem noted that in the first set Vikes double fault to cost him his service game (inability to take a territory turn 1) really hampered his cause, noting that "it just wasn't his day." Things then only seemed to go downhill for Vykingsfan who watched in horror as he was unable to capture a crucial break point from love-40 (11-6 to break a +2 bonus) and then was steamrolled in the second set when Ricrem's vicious forehand got cranking (3 card mixed to really end much hope of a comeback).

When asked about his 2nd round opponent 30th seeded markec, Ricrem thought that the seedings really don't matter much anyway. "You can't take anything for granted out here. On any given day anything can happen. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up the good play though and advance into the quarters."

Rumor had it that a crazed lunatic charged out of the stands and tried to fit vyks with a red beret. Can you confirm or deny? With no television coverage for the early rounds, no cameras were on hand to document the incident?
