For some people it may have been.

If you like living in an oppressive police state racked by racism, poverty and the welcome abode of the leftovers of the criminal Nazi cult I have no doubt the so-called Federal Republic of Germany - with their 3 political parties under the monitoring and control of a foreign government - was, and is, a superior living environment to the democratic sector of Germany.

If you like living in a democracy with 5 independent-minded and freely-organized political parties, universal health care for all of such high quality that west German physicians fled en masse to the democratic sector, one of the world's most developed social safety nets, and a nuclear-free state, then the DDR may have been better.

By the way, have you read the German Card? Are the allegations of that secret pact merely allegations?

The person making the allegations was an honorably discharged flag officer and head of the intelligence service of the fascist sector of Germany. Are you supposing your qualifications are such that you can independently discount facts he's presented?

Yes. No.

His allegations still have no bearing on how terrible the DDR life was. Even if the West had a few people fleeing from the West, MOST of the people fleeing were moving to the West from the DDR. Certainly, life in the DDR was worse for most, while life in the West was bad for very very few.

As a former DDR citizen I'm an atheist and consider insurrections inspired by affiliations with Pro-Supernatural groups, like religions, to be terrorist acts, so can't agree with your statement here.

All I have is first-hand experience, published academic texts and news reports from impartial, professional journalists about which to go by; I guess we'll have to agree to disagree!
