Hahaha...it was a joke, brother. I understand that communion is all symbolic. No, you're not actually eating the body of Christ. You're eating wafers that represent his body and drinking grape juice (or wine if you're a catholic) that represents his blood. Still, you should step back a little and realize how absurd that sounds to someone who may have never heard of christian doctrine before.

But I used to be a christian. My dad is hardcore christian. I understand plenty about Christianity. Which is why I stepped away from it and am no longer a believer. Brother. :)

What about cannabislistic and cannibalistic societies?

Are you talking about ones that murder people just to eat them, ones that murder people to avoid starving, or ones that eat dead relatives to get closer to their Gods? Obviously learned behaviors and mental illnesses and defects will all play a role. Christians have been known to eat people.
If you're talking about the Kulina tribe (had to google the spelling) all the evidence points to some kind of serial killer homicide.

What's this? No mention of cannabislistic societies?

I think cannabilicious societies have the same morals as every one else, except their morals allow them to get high and not feel guilty about it.

I wish I'd belong to one.

Hmm- there's plenty of historical evidence for Christians calling each other cannibals. Protestant accusations against Catholics often used to take that line as a way of mocking a certain type of Christian belief.

So really, it's not a lack of understanding of Christianity, more a continuation of the kind of internal bickering that divides Christianity.

Do you consider Catholic Christians to be cannibals when they take Mass? Catholic Christians believe that the bread becomes the body of Christ, and the wine His blood during the ceremony.

Does that make you sick?

Me- not at all. I'm an atheist, but also an historian. It's interesting when debates like this turn up. You took issue with the accusation about cannibalism and immediately suggested Communion, which is purely symbolic. Mass is not, or at least not in the same way.

Christians have used accusations of cannibalism against each other for a long time. Suggesting that an accusation of cannibalism was a misunderstanding of Christianity was, of course, itself a misunderstanding of Christianity, at least in any historical sense. What it is to you now, God only knows.

ok. yes, I understand that during communion the bread is the body of Christ and the wine (we actually use grape juice) is the blood of Christ. But to me, that's not cannibalism. That's honoring a sacrifice.
I have delved into the history of Christianity but not with a focus on cannibalism. In any given topic, there are so many aspects of it that it is hard to cover it all.
Yes it is interesting to see an aetheist's point of view on cannibalism and Christianity. Thanks for your opinion.

Erm, I think I deleted a sentence there without realizing it or something....
It was supposed to say 'people of all faiths, even Christian, have been eating people for a long time.' I swear, anytime I don't review my posts I do something like this.

You do understand though, that for Catholic Christians they're not drinking grape juice? Or wine? It's the actual blood of Christ. And the bread becomes His body?

ok. So you're not Christian. Do you consider yourself an aetheist or something else?

Meh- at least you had a guess. I literally told the guy a few posts ago that I consider myself an atheist, but he still has to ask.

yeah, you did, and I remembered it, but sometimes people say their aetheists just to put down a simple answer but really have more complex beliefs. That's why I asked.

I think you were thinking of aesthetics there.

It's spelled atheist, as in "a-theist" = not a theist.
