See this is why you don't like the beatles, you're looking for something completely different out of your music than what the Beatles delivered. Tool is about the most opposite music to the Beatles on Earth. Tool writes complex, un- relateable songs (un-relateabe songs unless you do shrooms once a month) The beatles wrote simple sentimental songs. You think the beatles are over rated because it's not what you like, but most people just want a nice tune with words they'll remember.

(also I should mention that I don't think the Beatles were particularly talented in a technicality sort of way but more fall into the creative genius sort of catagory. They knew how to put together a good song with out using a 4/5 time signature where the vocals are timed to the Fibonacci sequence.)

I don't think the Beatles write simple songs. I think the Beatles are overrated. I listen to the Beatles occasionally, but I do not think they are the greatest rock band of all time. I think they are the most popular rock band of all time. Popularity does not equal greatness.

Beyond that, I like a lot of different types of music within the genre of "rock." So while Tool and Queen are my favorite bands, I also enjoy other, more "sentimental" music as well.

Did a search, I now see the problem. Tool was formed in 1990. I was literally out to sea, with no access to radio, most of that decade. And since... I have not been buying music except for my kids.

What? I've never heard a Lady Gaga song in my life (a 22 year old at work doesn't believe me, but I really haven't). I was simply commenting again on popularity vs. actually being good and the relative measures of each. I understand that Lady Gaga is extremely popular, more popular than Tool. That does not mean, at least to me, that Lady Gaga is a better musician/singer/artist than the any member of the band Tool (or all of them collectively).

I'll admit I did form that last sentence in a pretty trollish way, but I really don't like them at all. I've heard about 4 songs of theirs, and they're god awful.

Like, each of the songs was like 10 minutes long, with the same repetitive shitty riff in the most asymmetrical time signature and the singer sounds like he's sucking on eggs while attempting to sing.

I've only seen Lady Gaga sing in a video of a TV interview. She was at an electronic keyboard, playing and singing. I don't even think she was singing one of her songs. (I think it was normally sung by another artist.) Her singing was good; her playing was good (no really) but the thing that hit me (because I look at these things) was she was actually having a blast. This wasn't some big mega concert where everything was way too loud, the lights are always way to hot and you are always too tired, but a friendly chat with an anchor and she was having a blast.

I used to hate Tool as well (for the same reasons you stated AoG), but only because I was only familiar w/ their radio stuff. My buddy, who is a huge fan, made me start listening to them. I like them a lot now. It sucks that radio only plays some of their most boring, radio-friendly songs, but really they are quite talented. It is an acquired taste, I'll admit. And yes if you're on shrooms then that's a whole other experience.

My friends have incessantly hammered my skull with Tool, but I still find the singer's voice lame and lackluster, the lyrics OKAY + YAWN, but I do like the guitarist, bassist, and drummer, but not enough to become a fanboy.
