Sorry to see you eliminated so early uncle Saxi. I was really hoping you could stay and play longer. I felt we were all getting to know each other a little better in this freindly challenge and I hope that we can extend the olive branch of peace again in the near future.

Simón Bolívar All-Americas Friendship Challenge!

Postby saxitoxin on Fri Nov 19, 2010 9:29 pm

THIS IS NOT A TOURNAMENT AND YOU WILL RECEIVE NO MEDAL FOR IT. IT IS A SERIES OF SELECTIVE-ADMISSION CHALLENGE GAMES. IT IS BEING CROSS-POSTED TO A SPECIALIZED SIB THREAD AND CALL-OUTS. YOU MAY JOIN BY REPLY IN EITHER THREAD (SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS).

Image
"A state too expensive in itself ultimately falls into decay. Its free government is transformed into a tyranny. It disregards the principles which it should preserve, and finally degenerates into despotism." - Generalissimo Bolívar, 1815

¡Bovar!

Honorarium and Introduction

This Friendship Challenge is in honour of The Liberator of All the Americas (Canada in spirit only)!* It will happen via speed games taking place at 9:30PM December 1, 2010 (Washington, DC, USA-time). The opening ceremonies will occur at 9:25PM December 1. [details to follow]

* on the occasion of (a) the 180th anniversary of his retirement as President of Greater Colombia, (b) the 45th anniversary of the commissioning of the U.S. Navy ship USS Simón Bolívar, (c) the 10th anniversary of the renaming of Venezuala to Bolivarian Venezuala, all of which will occur in December by some happy coincidence

How to Enter

1. Post your intention to enter below this message. (This message will be posted to a specialized SIB thread and, sometime later, Call-Outs. Entry is permitted by responding to this message in either thread. You need only respond in one thread.)

2. Due to national quotas and premium-status requirements of the Bolivarian All-Americas Friendship Challenge, each entry will be vetted by the Supreme Adjudicator, Saxitoxin, and a final list of entrants published when achieved. Those selected will also receive separate instructions via PM upon completion of the list.

Eligibility and Prizes

1. To be eligible a player must be a premium player due to the nature of the first round games.

2. To be eligible you must currently be a resident of a country in the western hemisphere. In keeping with the Bolivarian spirit of the challenge, residents of un-liberated countries (French Guyana, Greenland, Cook Islands, Curaçao, Aruba, Saint Martin, etc.) are not eligible to participate. "Western hemisphere" will be defined by the Prime Meridian, not the 180th parallel, and countries that are in the western hemisphere but sit on the continents of Africa or Europe are not eligible.

3. The GRAN CONQUISTADOR BOLIVARIAN will receive a premium membership gifted to the western hemisphere-living freemium player of their choice, the selection being due within 24 hours after the end of the final game. Failure to PM the Supreme Adjudicator by that time will result in prize being forfeit to the S.A. who will purchase Boy Meets World: The Complete Third Season on DVD for himself instead.

Gameplay

1. 16 total players will be accepted as follows:

    a. Eight players from the United States, Mexico, Canada, and the Caribbean will play on MAP: First Nations North America in a Speed Game that will take place at 9:30PM December 1, 2010 (Washington, DC, USA-time). No more than 3 participants from any one nation will be permitted unless not all spots have been filled. If not all spots are filled then national quotas will be extended to 4, and filled on a first-come, first-served basis from the active waiting list.

    b. Eight players from Central and South America will play on MAP: First Nations South America in a Speed Game that will take place at 9:30PM December 1, 2010 (Washington, DC, USA-time). No more than 3 participants from any one nation will be permitted unless not all spots have been filled. If not all spots are filled then national quotas will be extended to 4, and filled on a first-come, first-served basis from the active waiting list.

Habitation will be determined by the country flag in player profile. (For these purposes Olympic standards will apply and residents of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands will represent those countries, not the incorporated United States.)
2. The first person to win Game (A) or Game (B) will start a private game on a map of his choice into which he shall invite the second winner when known. The winner of this game will be the GRAN CONQUISTADOR BOLIVARIAN!

3.
Both the first and second round games will obey the following settings:
    Game Type: Standard
    Initial Troops: Automatic
    Play Order: Sequential
    Spoils: Escalating
    Reinforcements: Unlimited
    Fog of War: No

First round games will be speed games. The second round game will be a casual game.

4.For the duration of the challenge English-only chat rules will be suspended and in-game communication may take place in English, French, Spanish or Portuguese.

5.The S.A. exercises discretion in interpretation of all rules.

Also, I nominate AoG, seeing as how he's a mute now, to represent Canada again if there aren't any USA seats left, but only if better Canadians don't come along.
