Secessionitist

Postby thegreekdog on Wed May 11, 2011 8:25 am

I thought this was interesting. Does anyone think secession has any legs?

As an 'outsider' with curiosity ... what would they gain from this? apart from all the political jibber jabber in the article, what would the actual purpose behind it be :?:

Let them break up, and then we can have another "leftist/Liberal**" case study to watch.

*Are they leftist or Liberal or what?

Sounds like a good enough reason.

That wouldn't bother me as long as it works both ways.

How about a vote in the senate. Or an extra electoral vote. Or the right to govern themselves as they see fit. They stand a lot to gain from this. This would not be merely cosmetic.

Not from the sounds of it, to me. It sounds like even the liberal representatives have had battles in trying to retain their seats.

Also, love the graphic there, greecepwns!

Given that California has tried to split for many years, with probably better reason.. I highly doubt it.

I heard on the radio the other day that a republic is untenable given the size of the United States (population and land mass). I believe that there is one representative per 70,000+ people. Should there be more representatives or a smaller federation?

I also heard on the radio today that James Madison, a proponent of federalism, when arguing for a federal government, had some interesting things to say regarding states' rights (although they weren't call that then). If you haven't read them yet, the Federalist Papers are a good read.

I hope they get their own state, and then they see the problem with the border rather than hear about how it isn't a problem, then turn into Conservatives, and then rejoin AZ, finally admitting they were wrong all along.

If I was an Arizona conservative, I would hope they would get their own state, have exorbitant tax rates and watch people leave.

Same here. It would be California on a smaller scale but with more direct "Liberal/leftist" influences at play.

in your article...

A group of lawyers from the Democratic stronghold of Tucson and surrounding Pima County...

That's the same place the Giffords shooting happened.

I have heard tons about the Loughner story and Tuscon and Pima College and AZ and followed up on all the people and media involved, yet I never once heard Tuscon and Pima described this way. I guess this was on the hush hush while they pinned the tail on the elephant.
