I dont imagine they would have moved the way they have unless the case was pretty water-tight. Those guys will be going down for a long time.

Hey, this is a great thread title for following file sharing sites getting shut down, but so far the thread doesn't have any good search terms to find it later. I will begin a list of terms to help find this thread later. Other people should feel free to contribute.

Megaupload
Alicia Keys
f*ck the police
Tea Party Death Squad Rejoices

I can't think of any more at the moment, I'll post more later. Great thread Lootifer, this one should last awhile.

The fucking pigs should lose. All megaupload did was provided a service for users to use as they best saw fit, ie. share files with each other via the internet. Megaupload did not "promote" piracy, it did not ask users to upload copyrighted material, and it complied with any takedown requests. The whole case against them is laughable and should be thrown out of court.

The real question is, if the government already has the power to prosecute those who break copyright laws online, why do they need SOPA? What's the real power grab in the legislation?

SOPA is just the extension of the premise that government has a right to control media.

All media throughout human history has been strictly controlled. When a new media emerges restrictions are lifted on previous media.

For example, in Ancient Egypt only the priests and the Royal families were allowed to read the sacred scrolls. In the days of the written word it was the elites allowed to learn, not the masses. As a means of control.

Radio was heavily regulated in the beginning. A perfect propaganda tool to be used for the benefit of the State.
After that, TV extremely regulated. In the US non citizens were barred from owning television stations. Rupert Murdoch became a naturalized US citizen so that he could acquire FOX broadcasting and it raised a huge stink at the time, though few remember that.

Then comes the internet. For once a media that was nearly impossible to regulate, to control. The voices of every human being on the planet to potentially get together and actually talk without the screen of government in the way.
Well immediately the more totalitarian regimes of the world knew that this is something that can't be tolerated.

Technology has increased. Technology to limit and control the masses voice. To control the sharing of ideas. To control the point of view. Nothing must mar the image that government portrays to the people. Nothing.

SOPA is not the first. It won't be the last to limit the interwebz. But people should wake up and realize, Government is not entitled to have a finger in every pie. Contrary to popular belief.

Of course it's framed as "in the interest of public safety" or other such nonsense. That people in general are too stupid to make their own decisions that the government must be involved in everything. From what you see to what you read to what you say and even to what you think.

Azaelia Banks. Performing at coachella.

Me being at coachella is like someone being at coachella last year, but the bands will be different.

Valid comparison.
