ITT: DJL tourney; now AN tourney. Also, general OT callout

Obviously I could just post an actual callout thread in callouts, but it sort of defeats the purpose of the tourney. So, this thread is to see if there would be enough interest to put together a round robin-/single elimination-/best of-style tourney consisting entirely of you assholes. Unfortunately, since the concept does not include allowing randoms in, I can't apply for tourney privileges to set such a thing up, but I'm sure we can work around that.

Alternatively, we could do something silly with teams related to off-topic discussion, like a game to decide if there is a god, or Tea Party Death Squad vs. Obama is killing grandma. Again, I'm just throwing this stuff out there to see if it's worth me pursuing. If I get enough people showing interest, perhaps I'll send some pms, start a callout thread, and make it an invitational or something.

For simplicity's sake, we'll say classic map with standardish settings. That's flexible though.

I sort of envision something pretty laid back. The idea behind this is that OTers may not take CC quite so seriously, and we all have enough personality to create some interesting game chat. It's still more about the socializing than the competition. The winner gets to go on a CC date with saxi or something. Avatar bets and whatnot. On the other hand, if I and too many others are too lax, this could just flounder into oblivion. Another reason to gauge interest.

Besides, if you miss your turn, someone will benefit from it, and anyone that doesn't can just suck it up or go hang out in GD or something. As long as you join any games you are supposed to do in a reasonable amount of time, then I'm all, "whatever."

I just considered foe lists, which may be a dealbreaker for some. I feel that you should have to temporarily unfoe someone to keep with the spirit of the competition. Indeed, I will actively encourage bickering for the amusement of others.

I'll probably let this simmer overnight, to allow 9-5 workers and non-USers to post some feedback. I'm pretty satisfied with the results so far, considering the time of day. If you want to post one or two users you think I should invite, please feel free. Better yet, harass them yourself.

I'm seriously interested...though I can only play 4 games at one time, I would be more than willing to dedicate all 4 to this endeavor.

I have sworn off tournaments, but for this I would make an exception.

Random maps would be fun though, I gotta tell you. (Plus, I feel as though I would have a bit more of an advantage than on Classic...)

That may not have been necessary, but I'm fairly committed to attempting this now.

If I counted right, we have double digits participants, which is good enough to do, say, a 1v1 round robin with the top six entering a (best-of?) playoff, and the top two seeds enjoying a bye. I may also do a bonus points system for things like bets, polling for most amusing chat, and/or separate eight-player games where you get points for first (3), second (2), and third (1). Are the bonus points going overboard? They can be left out. I mostly just want an excuse to do bigger games.

If we pick up more interest somehow, we can do a proper 16 player single elimination tourney too. Sky's the limit, and if anyone else can come up with something, I'm going to encourage using our eventual callouts thread for parallel events.

Executive decisions made: 1v1, Classic, auto, sequential, escalating, sunny, chained, 20 or 30 round limit. 2pts per elimination win, 1pt for round limit win. Go for the kill. Playoff will be best of three. Top seeds win bye.

There will also be a parallel series of 8 player games with above settings. Everyone will play the same number of games if I can map it out (fairly confident). 3pts for first, 2pts for second, 1pt for third. For tennish people, that's about four games each? I don't expect to have more than 2 games per person going at a time, so if you're freemie, keep those open. Maybe a third, just in case...

Whatever random nonsense games I can think of (larger format games for opportunities to steal points, handicap someone else, choose a map/settings for 1v1 etc.)
