What are the revolts about? Some cross-dressing law?

A trade deal between Taiwan province and the mainland.

No leader would dare try to regulate cross-dressing.

I was playing Europa Universalis 4 over the weekend. I was building an empire of Brunei -- I just recently colonized the Philippines and Taiwan. The mainland powers in China, namely Zhou and Xi, and Ming were not so pleased I was encroaching into their territory. The Qing and Japan similarly saw me as a threat.

Such tensions are exactly why the stabilizing presence of a regional hegemon is needed.

Just wait until the Western powers show up. I think it is still in the early 1400s. Eventually Castile and Portgual will start colonizing and conquering. I plan to colonize the natives first, to eliminate an easy foothold for them. But I'm sure we'll end up in conflict...

lol. It's the 1400s and you're mixing it with the Qing Dynasty? Typical Western revisionist history.

Good luck against the colonialists. You can keep us updated on your progress in this thread.

Manchu empire, which became the Qing Dynasty, just managed to meet the conditions for transformation early--enough of the core provinces, etc. My favorite part of the game is watching a different history. Like when I was Manchu and invaded Japan, or when I was the Papal States and had African colonies, or when Brittany took over France and became a dominant western European power, or when instead of allowing the Ottomans to take over, I fought them back as Byzantium and restored the old empire.

Lots of fun.

Good times. My favorite was the WW2 scenario on Civ 2. Conquered all of Europe as the Nazis, then succeeded in nuking and invading the US. Stalin was always too tough a cookie for me though.

I can't seem to get any of the mainland Chinese empires to get into a royal marriage with my nation. These are helpful, because they improve relations, and always we can get heirs of the same dynasty. Any suggestions how to facilitate this??! I tried bribing them.

You tried bribing a Chinese person and it didn't work? The only possible reason can be that the bribe was too small.

Or it's because the Chinese have a raging superiority complex towards anyone who isn't white and they consider you beneath them.

Taiwanese people eat out of toilets. True story, I've been there. No wonder they're revolting.

How many times have I told you? "Symmetry do not believe all that a jef tells you!"

Yet you continue in your wilful ignorance. Shameful.

Everyone knows that the Taiwanese drink exactly like mrswdk, dip a cup into the toilet, then drink from the cup. Unless you have a very small head or an angular snout toilets are remarkably difficult to drink out of.

That's a child's toilet. It is certainly OK to drink and eat from a child's toilet. Everyone in Taiwan knows children are pure and free from disease.

Yeah, that's a popular past-time in Taiwan. They even got their own TV show for it.

They not only eat in toilets, but they eat on toilets, too!

Taiwan's a lovely place, though. The people are friendly, the food is good - in some ways, it's nicer than Hong Kong.

Probably the same restaurant. I was at a place over the road eating stinky tofu.

There's a toilet restaurant in Beijing as well. I can't handle that.

Ha. People always tell me the aroma is misleading. Does it actually taste as heinous as it smells?

The best way I can describe it is that it both smells and tastes like really bad breath.

An update for Mrswdk. I managed to bribe Xi with some money, and a diplomat's presence, to improve our relations. We know have a royal marriage and alliance. Unfortunately, they have the Qing to their north, and the Zhou to their south and east, and some Mongol hordes to their west, so they are in a pickle. Since the mainland is pretty far from real army strength (southeast asian islands), I probably won't really help them in any wars they get into -- I just wanted the royal marriage to improve my prestige and make some heirs.
