Good for you, KB, to break TWO BAD HABITS. Those are BIG accomplishments. =D> Many can't even break one.

EXCUSE ME. I'm pretty sure most normal people would rather have me drug them up than tie them up.

I did entirely too much when I was young, I regret all of it.
Once I realized that getting high was an attempt to escape reality and feel good for awhile, I dropped the habit and invested my time in creating a better reality that I didn't need to escape from. Have been purposely sober for a long while now.

I firmly believe there is a line that cuts right across drug/alcohol use, i call it functionalism. There are those that can use drugs or alcohol and be functional, and a group of people who can't. Be that because they can't control themselves while on the substances, or because they can't accept being off the substances, or simply don't enjoy the 'loss of control' is a meaningless distinction in my mind. I personally would group together those straight edge types with the non-functional users (Lounos = Confed for this exercise), and have a second group who may occasionally run into problems due to use of drugs/alcohol but for the most part can still function within society/life while enjoying mind altering chemicals. I don't believe one category is better than the other, I just think it's an important thing to learn about yourself, hopefully by the time you are 24-25 yo so you can not become a total trainwreck of a human, or become a mindless drone who is incapable of having fun.

Anyway, when you guys are ready to do this intervention for Saxi I'll be armed and have a big net ready. Just won a gun at a police run crab feed raffle and was looking for an occasion to christen it...

I don't believe drugs change who you are. If you have underlying mental issues, as I did, drugs can exacerbate them, but they don't initiate them.

If you're basically a stable and responsible person, you can go for a trip on your drug of choice and come back Monday morning, still a stable and responsible person.

I often saw people in high school who became druggies, and others would say, "look at him. He became a druggie and now he's a loser."

I call Bullshit! on those claims. I knew those guys before they were druggies, and they were losers then.

There was one kid whom I've known since Grade Five (and the only person I've known since that time who I'm still in regular communication with) who eventually became a junkie and a thief. He got into almost every kind of trouble there is, did hard time, messed up his life real good. Eventually did get clean, but only late in life after hurting a lot of people. Sure enough, everyone says "look what drugs did to him." But the fact is, I knew him long before he did drugs. I knew he was a self-centered prick and a liar. When we'd play road hockey, he'd deliberately slap-shot people in the face or in the nuts. At Halloween, he cut a hole in his UNICEF box and stole money from it. He was the only person I knew that got the strap more often than I did. I knew he'd come to a bad end. Drugs were only the icing on the cake.

That is exactly what my clanmate(No, not THAT clan @ConfedSS) said in our group chat. I'm not going to pretend I have any nuanced understanding of CA gun laws but I think people have an idea in their head of what CA laws are like and it's basically what SF city laws are like. The reality is state level politics probably aren't as over the top as what the media might lead you to believe. It's literally the local police who are giving me this weapon (after the 11 day background check waiting period) for 'self defense'. I had 4th choice of a table with 14 guns on it, my father in law was hinting at a handgun (maybe the purple one for his daughter  ) but the cop lady I bought the raffle tickets from kept nudging me and pointing to the Kel-Tec so i rolled with it assuming she had killed more souls than my father in law and she probably knew best.

More likely than not some asshole bear(No, not a hairy gay guy in the city @saxi) who really enjoys eating expensive grapes is going to be it's first victim.
