British school kids are generally only force fed Shakespeare's romances and tragedies, leaving me to learn about the Romans from computer games and Gladiator instead =D>

A suggestion for ralph: look up the tragedy Julius Ceasar by William Shakespeare. You might learn something worthy.

Julius Caesar is classed as a history, not a tragedy.

Suggestion for jp: look up my last posts in the Israel thread.

ralph is a silly Englishman (or a fake one) if he knows so little about William Shakespeare, a playwright, and NOT a historian.

Let's go to reputable site to get facts and not offer just an (ill-informed) opinion:

Julius Caesar, tragedy in five acts by William Shakespeare, produced in 1599–1600 and published in the First Folio of 1623 from a transcript of a promptbook. Based on Sir Thomas North’s 1579 translation (via a French version) of Plutarch’s Bioi parallēloi (Parallel Lives), the drama takes place in 44 BCE, after Caesar has returned to Rome.

https://www.britannica.com/topic/Julius-Caesar-by-Shakespeare

ralph apparently does not now know nor did he learn much about this tragedy. Most artists, including Shakespeare, use history and facts to inspire them to tell their stories.

And the movie Gladiator was not about Julius Ceasar, so you learned that lesson poorly TOO. What a LOSER.

Thou sodden-witted lord! Thou hast no more brain than I have in mine elbows.

strawman? is that YOU, ralph?

During the discussion about Julius Ceasar and here is what ralph had to say about Romans:
British school kids are generally only force fed Shakespeare's romances and tragedies, leaving me to learn about the Romans from computer games and Gladiator instead

ralph continues to show us that he is ignorant of History AND that his knowledge mostly comes from games and movies. THAT is THE way to learn History, ralph. No wonder you show SO MUCH knowledge of the U.K and U.S.

Let me share more Shakespeare with ralph, since he knows so little about him and Literature (as well as History).

Out of my sight! Thou dost infect my eyes.

I think you're being unfair, here, JP.

Everyone who classifies Shakespeare's plays admits that the categories are highly debatable, and many plays fall into more than one.

Most commentators do put Julius Caesar among the tragedies, but putting it among the histories is not unreasonable.

The first sentence of the wikipedia entry for it calls it both.

I did not read Wikipedia on this. BUT….

The category is really a minor point. The big point is that ralph knows so little.

Which is why I am grateful to be able to study at the feet of such a master, with such an extensive Google search history.

Let us learn from a real master, Shakespeare. Here is his evaluation of ralph:

"Thou sodden-witted lord! Thou hast no more brain than I have in mine elbows"

I have more brains than you and your buddy p-rat combined, and I am talking about one ELBOW, not both. I have forgotten more than you two have ever learned.
