Cold Play Viva la Vida

Post by gdeangel »

I heard this the other day and it made me think of Conquer Club - see my editorial breakdown  :

I used to rule the world Classic / 2.1
Seas would rise when I gave the word Extreme Global Warming
Now in the morning I sleep alone ??
Sweep the streets I used to own NYC

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemies eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
"Now the old king is dead, long live the king!" Seige!

One minute I held the key Draknor
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand Feudal
Upon pillars of salt, and pillars of sand Gazala

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing Middle East
Roman cavalry choirs are singing ??
Be my mirror, my sword, my shield ??
My missionaries in a foreign field New World
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world

It was the wicked and wild win
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string (Ooooh)
Ah, who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword, and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
My ever constant two last games seem to have no end in sight!

Maybe Chris Martin plays CC?

I noticed his subtle reference to wicked there.

Wow, that actually really relates to CC. I think your right. The writer must've had some connection...its pretty neat

Chris Martin nearly pisses me off as much as that twat of catholic rocker, Bono, the smug fruit tea drinking hypocrite. As for the music, well Coldplay are much like Oasis, one decent album and then a slow inexorable demise except in Coldplay's case they have chosen the path of generic stadium anthems in emulation of another set of once cools, the Chilli Peppers, rather than the Welleresque drivel that Gallagher favours. Gawd people get over them, I reccomend this - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... =172931187 - as a suitable antidote to the unchallenging crap that Martin et. al. serve up in the name of innovation.

i've hated Cold Play from the beginning. This is the only song that's come out from them that I don't absolutely hate.

I can't speak for this band's previous albums because I haven't heard much from them at all until now, but their two new "hot" songs are absolute crap. Too simple, too much emphasis on songwriting (how many band members are there? 2? ), and they make the art of minimalism sound horrible and boring. And Violet Shit is stuck in my head.

you people are daft if you believe that chris martin wrote this song about conquerclub, yes a couple of the lines have to do with some maps, but that comparison is very very general

So I found out today that Chris Martin wrote the majority of these songs on very heavy sleeping medication haha
