Does anyone know...

Postby legendkiller717 on Mon Oct 27, 2008 10:55 pm

So i'm having a baby girl in a month and me and the wifey came up with a name.

Illyana

But i have no idea what it means or if its spelled right, i just know i have heard it before and like it

and we picked Aisling for the middle name, and i know its gaelic, and is pronounced Ash- leigh, but thats about it.

does anyone know anything about these names?

oh, and heres a pic of her btw....

I've seen it spelled Illiyana and Iliyana. your choice really. I never knew Aisling was pronounced that way, I always thought it was AYS-LING.

congrats on the baby!

What I found on Aisling...
Beautiful names, both of them. I thinke if I have daughter, I'll name her either Iona or Gethsemane... and a son I'd lean towards Rian, maybe.

Illyanna reminds me of the Zorya... not sure why.

Found something:
ILIANA. Greek, "from Ilium or Troy"; Spanish variation of HELEN.
Ilium was the poetic name of the city of Troy, and variations of this name -- especially Ileana and Ileanna -- have been widely used, projecting a rather bohemian image. Ileana, Ileane, Ileanna, Ileanne, Ili, Ilia,Iliani, Illeanna, Illia, Illiana, Illiani, Illianna, Illyana, Illyanna.

In my part of the world Ryan (pronounced rye-un) is a boy's name, while Rhian (rhee-ann) is a girl's name.

Well, it's still Ryan, but an alternate spelling. Not Rhian, don't worry.

As long as you're aware on what Gethsemane is. I think it sounds beautiful and poetic, but there are certainly some connotations attached to the word.
It would almost be like naming my son Judas...
