Perhaps this is a bit late to bring up, but why does the last non-winner get 2 points, and the winner also gets 2 points (1 for the win and 1 for the final kill).

Well, if you go back to Montreal, the standard games were scored as follows:

My first thought was to score the Terminator games by kills only, but then I thought, "no, they're somewhat different but not entirely different from Standard games." I realize it's a segue, but player 2 scores the same as player 1. In Escalators, it's most likely that the final kill is not player 1's only kill, but the last player eliminated shouldn't get such a large bonus. It is probably too late to change it now, but for future that scoring system has a slight flaw.

It's like saying (in a standard game): the winner gets 10 points and the second place player gets 10 points. Then 3, 4, 5, 6 get 9,8, 7, 6. While I agree that 2nd should get more than 3rd, I don't think it should get the same as 1st.

Well, it is possible for player 2 to score the same as player 1, if player 2 is his only kill, but that only happens once in a while. In most cases, the winner will have several kills.

Nonetheless, you're right. It is a flaw. Rather than reducing player 2s bonus, I think if I did this again I would increase the bonus for winning. I won't change it in this tourney (I've done enough tinkering with the C&F points; I don't want to start tinkering with the game points too.) but it's definitely something to keep in mind for future tournaments.

The music is actually not that bad, and again, these guys are pretty much run-of-the-mill Vancouverites, including an appearance from a member of Alpha Flight.

Dal Richards is a musician and a big-band leader in Vancouver. He's a legend in jazz and swing, and at 92, he still performs and hosts a radio show. Here's one of his performances, courtesy of YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0EDTZFuup0

I finally got some spare time and watched all the videos.

The white guy singing the blues is even sillier in the second performance.... :-)

I also loved the expressions on the guitar player's face. And the sax players with their cool shades and serious expressions. Also, the old dude dancing all by himself towards the end... that's going to be me one day.. :-)

Only eight Vancouver games still active as of right now.

I'm surprised people haven't been screaming for interim scores by now.... :-)

Anyway, it's been extremely busy at work for me last few weeks, and next week promises to be more of the same, so it may be Victoria Day before I get around to adding up the scores. If I get an day off in between then and now I might do it sooner, but Victoria Day for sure.

Jeez, Duk, don't worry about the score sheet tally that much. We'll all get along without it for a while. Keeping shoes on the kids' feet is more important.

I neglected to add that it's a running joke here in HK that Vancouver has better dim sum than Hong Kong. =)

You were the first to respond to the C&F questions, so you scored the minimum 1 point. You didn't really do anything with your answers, just basically cut-and-paste from wikipedia or something similar, so you didn't get any more than 1.

It's okay, it's only a test. The file is not complete and it contains errors. I was just making sure people could read it before I post the final version.

Edit: actually, it only contains one error. The heading of the last column "Mtl total" should read "Van total"

As to the other terminology, VAN is Vancouver and MTL is Montreal. The first column is player name. The second column is Vancouver Game 1, then game 2, game 3, game 4, in that order. The sixth column is Vancouver C&F bonus, for those who participated in the C&F portion. So far, all the game 1s and game 4s are finished, so those columns are filled in, as is the C&F column. There is still one Vancouver game 2 and one Vancouver game 3 running, so I haven't added those in yet.

The seventh column is the subtotal of all the scores gained in Vancouver -- but don't worry if it's not that high yet, because none of the game 2 or 3s are included yet. So, if you've done well in a game 2 or 3 (the big 8-player escalators) you still have a bunch of points coming.

The 8th column "MTL FADED" is the only one I expect some people will have trouble grokking. This refers back to Rule 4 in the original rules:

4. Points will be imperfectly cumulative. At the beginning of each city stop starting with the second, your cumulative points total will be reduced by one quarter (1/4). Points earned at that stop will then be added, before deciding who is eliminated. Example: on the first city stop, you earned 8 points, which was enough to take you to the second stop. Your 8 points are reduced by one quarter and become 6 points. At the second stop you earn 10 points, and your total is now 16. At the third city stop your 16 points are reduced by one quarter again and become 12, before adding the points earned in the third city. And so on, and so on. Thus, the importance of the early rounds will gradually fade as we move forward. To ease the pain of the fade, all numbers will be rounded up, never down. Thus, 5.25 points will be rounded to 6, not 5.

So you, for instance, earned 11 points in Montreal. This is reduced by one-quarter to 8.25, and rounded up to 9. This is what I call your "faded" Montreal score, which you enter Vancouver with. It will be added to the points you earn in Vancouver to make the last column, "Van total".

The Tour Stats utility remains broken, so I am going to have to add up everybody's kills manually. Lol, this is way I did it for the Montreal games, since at that time I didn't know about Tour Stats. I just discover the damn thing and they go and break it. C'est la vie!

Everyone with 13 points or fewer has gotten distracted by the interesting mushrooms growing in the Vancouver area and will be left behind. Sorry guys, we'll miss you. Especially dazza, who always gives me great compliments on my tournaments. If I was inclined to cheat, I would have slipped you an extra point or two... :-)

Well, in the absence of dazza, I'll do the complimenting for now. I think you are doing a great job on this, quite large and somewhat complicated with the flavouring, tourney thus far. None of us are being left in the dark as to where we're at and what is happening next. Very professional. Should I ever get around to hosting a tourney as I've been intending to for the last 3 years, lol, I'll take a lot of cues from your example.
