Welcome to the 2012 Olympic Games!

Quick Links to individual sports:

Cycling, Diving, Equestrian, Fencing
Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Modern Pentathlon
Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Swimming
Synchronised Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon
Volleyball, Water Polo, Weightlifting, Wrestling

Registration has fully closed; teams can no longer be edited.

This is a Large Team tournament, with a lot of games for everyone. Teams with between 8 and 20 players will be accepted; however it is highly recommended that you have at least 12 players on your team.

EDIT: This tournament is now fully open to individual sign-ups. See the end of this post for more details.
EDIT: There will be 3 General Achievement Medals available. See "Prizes" below for more details.

Players MUST be premium, and have at least 97% attendance.

This tournament lends itself well to clans, so invite your clan-mates to form a team, but it is not exclusively for clans; all premium teams are welcome. If youā€™re not in a clan and would like to play, why not join forces with another quads team?

The tournament will follow the format of each of the events of the London 2012 Olympic Games, with some inspiration from the Beijing Olympics for events where full details are not yet available.

Teams should nominate a Team Captain and a 2nd in Command. All communications between myself and the team will go through the Team Captain, and should the Team Captain be unavailable (e.g. on vacation) any communications will be sent to the 2nd in Command.
Teams that are from one clan will find it useful to have a thread in their private clan forum to discuss who will play each event.

Further details for each sport will be posted as necessary.

Team Sign-Ups

Please sign up below with your Team Name, your Team Captain and 2nd in Command, and a list of all members of your team.

Individual Sign-Ups

If you would like to sign up as an individual, please do so. All individuals who have signed up will be sorted into equal-sized teams. (Aiming for teams of 12-16 players)

EDIT: This tournament is now fully open to individual sign-ups. When you sign up, please state if you would be willing to be a Team Captain. If you would like to be on a certain Team Captain's team, please say so in your post. All players who do not specify a team will be sorted under designated Team Captains randomly, though if you have friends/team-mates who you would like to be on a team with you, state this in your post and I will keep you in the same team.

4 Events: Men's Team, Women's Team, Men's Individual, Women's Individual

All events will be played on the Castle Lands map.

Players enter as individuals for Men's and/or Women's event - the first round is a seeding round which is also used as a qualifier for the Team events.

The Men's and Women's events are identical in format.

Seeding Round

All 64 players will each play two sets of 3 games. All games in this stage will be 8-player. Points are awarded based on a formula combining the number of rounds, finishing position and the number of eliminations. A maximum of 120 points for each game is available (120 is scored by winning a game in 5 rounds or less, and eliminating all opponents).

Players' scores are totaled (out of a maximum 720 points) and then placed into a 64-player seeded bracket for the Individual events.

The 16 teams whose 3 players give the highest combined score will qualify for the Team events.

Team Events

The 16 teams will be placed into a 16-team seeded bracket. In each round, each player will play three 1v1 games; one against each player on the opposing team.

Points are awarded according to a formula based on the number of rounds in which the player wins or loses. A maximum of 30 points is available for each game (by winning in 4 rounds or less). Therefore, each team can get up to 270 points in a match.

In each match, the team with the most points goes forward to the next round. To win the Gold Medal, a team must win 4 out of 4 matches.

Individual Events

The 64 players will be placed into a 64-player seeded bracket. In each round, players will play four 1v1 games against one opponent.

Points are awarded according to a formula based on the number of rounds in which the player wins or loses. A maximum of 30 points is available for each game (by winning in 4 rounds or less). Therefore, each player can get up to 120 points in a match.

In each match, the player with the most points goes forward to the next round. To win the Gold Medal, a player must win 6 out of 6 matches.

Athletics

47 Events - List of events and maps can be found below.
All events have 1 Men's and 1 Women's event except the Race Walk where there are 2 Men's events and 1 Women's. The Decathlon is the Men's equivalent of the Heptathlon for Women.

show

In all events except the High Jump and Pole Vault, times/distances will be worked out using a formula that combines the player's finishing position, the number of rounds the game finishes in, how many rounds behind the winner a player is and the number of eliminations a player makes. Times/distances will also be weighted very slightly by the total scores of players in the game. This is to reward players who have played a tougher game against stronger opponents.

The Men's and Women's events are identical in format.

Each event has 24 teams, which are placed into 6 groups of 4 teams.

The first stage is a Round Robin stage, so each team will play 3 games against different teams. The Top 2 teams from each group automatically go through to Round 2. The Top 2 3rd-place teams will also go through. The other 4 3rd-place teams will play off against each other (3rd v 6th, 4th v 5th) with the winning teams also going through to Round 2.

From here each event will be a standard 16-team bracket, with the winning team going through. From this stage to win the Gold Medal a team will win 4 out of 4 matches.

Boxing

13 Events: 10 Men's and 3 Women's. Events and maps can be found below:

2 Events: Men's and Women's.

Both events will take place on the South America map.

The Men's event will have 16 Quads teams, the Women's event will have 12 Quads teams.

Match scores will be worked out using the following formulae:

Losing team's score = Number of players on Winning team eliminated

Winning team's score = Losing team's score + (8 - number of rounds)

Therefore, a game that takes 8 rounds or more will be classed as a draw.*

*In the Bracket stage of the competition, a game that finishes in 8, 9 or 10 rounds will mean that the winning team has scored a goal in Extra Time. If the game goes to 11 rounds or more, Penalties will be issued based on the teams' previous records in the event (1 penalty scored per game won). If the teams are still equal, overall goal difference in the event will be used as a tie-breaker.

Men's

Preliminaries

Teams will be placed into 4 groups of 4 teams. Each group will play a round-robin, so every team will play 3 games. 3 points are awarded for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss. The Top 2 teams in each group go through to the Bracket. If a tie occurs, goal difference will be taken into account.

Bracket

8 teams will play a standard bracket (Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Finals). From here the team who win the Gold will win 3 out of 3 games. Losers of the Semi Finals will play against each other for the Bronze.

Women's

Preliminaries

Teams will be placed into 3 groups of 4 teams. Each group will play a round-robin, so every team will play 3 games. 3 points are awarded for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss. The Top 2 teams in each group and the best 2 3rd-place teams go through to the Bracket.

Bracket Stages

From here on, it is an 8-team bracket. From here, the team who win the Gold Medal will win 3 out of 3 matches.

Thanks for the sign-ups so far everyone, you can of course edit your team as much as you like until registration closes. I will send a message to all Team Captains a few days before it closes so that you can finalise your teams.

There won't be a fog rule; there will be too many games going on to check for things like that. From my experience, most players don't mind if the unwritten "fog rule" is broken, so I don't expect it to cause any problems.
