Grouping players in the same time zones

Maybe group the US/Canada as one time zone region, Asia as another, Europe as another, etc... Thoughts? Could it even be done?

I agree, it would definetly make life easier for people trying to get figure out game times. Although all you really need to do is put your time zone in you location....

yes yes yes
I most wholeheartedly agree
maybe it could appear in brackets after location, so even if you put 'behind you' or whatever (for fun & frivolity), you could still have GMT +5 (for utilitarianismanityness) as well.

I'd love to see an option to group the players in/near the same time zones together in sequential games to make the games run faster. It would ideally be a yes/no game option on the game startup page. I quess it could even work for team games, if it grouped only within each team. That would be way better for like real time games so you could just set a time and not worry about the whole plus /minus hours thing.

Grouping by time zones isn't as useful as it seems since people can play at different times of the day. Mornings, work hours only, work break periods only, afternoons, nights, etc. That's assuming there's no real life events that can interrupt the normal playing times.

I agree with wicked in that it would be nice to see other players that may be more likely to be interested in your realtime efforts...I also agree with Zippy and curse wicked to eternal dung coverage for her lack of insight.

Seems like a good idea, I take zip's point but it is a step in the right direction.

The problem with this is that people would have to declare their time zones.

Seeing as the majority of players never visit the forums (which is the most convinient place to set a time zone), this would be difficult to do. Even in a signup phase, these things often get skipped for the default...how many times when signing up for a forum have to taken the second to change the default time zone forum setting...not many I'd wager.

a popup request could work...again, not the most effective means...and we cant force people because not everyone wants other people to know what time zone they are from.

It would be nice, but might be more hassle than it's worth.

But then, if Lack likes the idea later, who am I to argue ;)

I started an Australia board to see how many people where playing in my time zone. As it turned out only a handfull of people posted to say hi.

The fact is onley a hand full of people are actually posting at all in the forum so it would be difficut to set up and maintain.

But hey, thats just a thought maybe set up a string asking for people in your perticular part of the world

timezones in player profiles *rejected*

Postby Fieryo on Thu Dec 21, 2006 3:44 pm

* Suggestion Idea: Timezone of each player in their profile

* Specifics: I remember this being suggested a while back, but i haven't seen anything about it for some time. my idea is to include in each player's profile their time zone, along with their country of origin and all that could stuff. the timezone could be in GMT format (mine is -5 i think).

* Why it is needed: This would allow for people to make and join games that would result in real time play more easily. granted this information could be obtained by asking, but that most likely only happens in game, after the game already starts. Also the country of origin is limited since America has 5 time zones and countries such a Russia (i think we have a few Russians amongst us) has 11 time zones. Also this would explain why someone is not taking their turn right away if its 3 in the morning where they are, thus lessing anger on behalf of other players in the game.

* Priority** (1-5): 2

**Note**

1 = Bottom of 'To Do' list
5 = Urgent, implement with next update

Suggested several times already including by you, wicked, and others. Isn't as useful as you think. Plus except for realtime its not anyone's responsibility to play a certain time to make it more convenient for someone else.

i understand that, and i know its not vitaly needed, hence the 2 rating. i simply think that allowing people to know what time zone their opponents are in is a useful piece of information. the country of origin is not critical to game play, but it's still there. i also dont think this would be a difficult change ti implement, of course i know next to nothing about coding, so it's not as if i am asking lack to perform a miracle.

The country thing should get you within a few hours, isn't that good enough?

Rejected.

Country is good enough, plus CC doesn't support RT games (until speed games is released), plus you already suggested this

im sorry for the double suggestion, i just thought it would be a nice feature. I didnt mean for it to apply only to real time games, i thought it would lessen the stress on some adicts (like myself) who get impatient when people dont take there turns at all during the day. If i knew it was 3 in the morning where they were, i wouldnt be so on edge. But i guess that's just me being an adict :D

Time Zone Indicator

Postby AlbroShlo on Thu May 03, 2007 6:16 pm

If there was a time zone listing with a player's stats one could join games with other players in the same time zone so as to have a better chance of having a fast game. Many times sequential games take a long time simply bc of the fact that the players are in different time zones.

Thank you. I'm Australian so I would often go to sleep when it's not my turn and then when I look at my games in the morning all of them are at my turn which is kinda annoying.

It's easy enough to click on somebodys profile to see which country they come from, but even then timezones aren't always an indication of when someones liklely to move.

For example, 2 guys might live in the same town in America, one preferring to take his turns at breakfast time, and the other when he gets home from work in the evening.

That's true. Also some people may work the night shift. Any way to speed things up would help i think.
