Wrong. Most people supporting Biden are under no illusion about the fact that he is old and feeble. They almost all wish he would have had a Johnson moment and realized he should step aside and not run for a second term. But he didn't, and he's still by far the lesser of two evils.
As Mookie cleverly put it,mookiemcgee wrote:And yet... we still have to vote for him, because the other guy would auction off the capital building his first week in office to pay off his personal legal debts.
The choice is between a man who is old and starting to fade in his mental capacity, but basically well-intentioned, and a wicked man who is pure malevolent evil, a serial con artist and thief whose entire life and career have been devoted to ripping people off.
I don't vote in your elections, but if faced with a choice between a man who is a little feeble but basically kind-hearted, and a man who is pure malevolent thief, I know who I would vote for.

The entire political situation is not good for the USA. This goes beyond Biden vs. Trump, who are TWO BAD CHOICES.
Here is another example to illustrate this political situation:
The Budget situation in Congress is not good and not something discussed much in this Forum. We cannot continue to pass massive budgets at the last minute with the threat of a government shut-down and default. Eventually what looks everyday more like a house of cards will fall. This is terribly irresponsible and due much to political gridlock as we continue to elect extreme partisans and not elect responsible and less shrill people.
I really wonder how much of this crude, hateful and divisive rhetoric is pushed by bad actors online on social media. (I should ask ConfedSS to research the matter.)

You continue to tell lies. And you did not read carefully. Try again, p-mac. Pathetic.

Dukasaur wrote:Trump being a serial con-man and thief is exhaustively documented fact.
With the casino, the fact that he took investors' money, walked away with it, and let everyone else go bankrupt, is all documented in the bankruptcy proceeding. It's not something someone made up (although I will admit that the actual number is somewhat in dispute, and maybe you could call that a matter of opinion.)
With the "university", the fact that he never had any intention of teaching anyone anything, he was just taking their money, and every "class" was just a long infomercial upselling them to the next non-class, has been documented with thousands of affidavits and depositions. Unless you think all these thousands of victims conspired to come up with the same phoney story, you have to accept it as fact, not opinion.
With his real estate stuff, the fact that he almost always paid less than the agreed upon amount to his contractors, and gambled (and usually won) on the bet that they couldn't afford better lawyers than his, has again been described by hundreds of contractors that got screwed. Again, unless you think they're all involved in some massive conspiracy....
The Yucatan resort, not as famous but same as the casino. Collected his share up front, walked away and let the project go bankrupt. Every single investor lost money.
You see it playing out right now, in real time. He's collected 3 billion in this SPAC, which is going to take over his money-losing website. He's going to pocket an inflated valuation for the website and walk away, and everyone who bought is going to lose, at a charitable valuation, at least 80% of their money. You say you used to be an investment banker, so I'm sure this isn't news to you. It's literally happening right now, over the next few weeks, and you can watch him screw his followers in real time.
It isn't just "opinion", unless you think evolution is just an opinion, or the earth going around the sun is just an opinion.
About the only possible way you could put a positive spin on this is if he's a real-life Francisco d'Anconia, on a covert moral mission to screw investors out of their money. But Okham's Razor doesn't slice that.
Shares of Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) have slid significantly this week, falling nearly nine percent today alone.
The news comes after Trump reiterated that he'll double down and continue to use Truth Social, a far right social media platform owned by TMTG, despite major losses and a seriously dubious financial outlook.
Shares of the group have been tanking ever since it merged with a blank check acquisition company last month, falling almost 25 percent in the last five days.
At the time of writing, shares are hovering around $42, well below the price at the merge, wiping out billions of dollars in value, including $1 billion of Trump's own net worth.
Trump, as he often does, has responded with seething grievance.
"When I ENDORSE a politician on TRUTH, they almost ALWAYS WIN," he wrote in a rambling and incoherent Truth Social post on Thursday. "If it didn’t work, or properly get the word out, I wouldn’t use it — But it does work, and work really well — And the fun is just getting started!!!"
The Conald
Analysts, who've long predicted this outcome, have argued that thanks to a lack of any semblance of revenue growth, TMTG shares are "grossly overvalued."
Last week, news emerged that Truth Social made a measly $4.1 million in revenue for all of 2023, despite having lost more than $58 million over the same period.
Even after the slump, TMTG has a market capitalization of over $5.7 billion, eclipsing the company's revenues.
"I mean, it’s ridiculous," Barry Diller, chairman of holdings company IAC and Expedia, told CNBC on Thursday. "The company has no revenue."
"It’s a scam, just like everything [Trump's] ever been involved in is some sort of con," he added.

Trump opened a lemonade stand that is only open for 30 minutes at 2 a.m. every Tuesday in a bad section of Torrance and exclusively sells cold coffee. If someone decides this is a business model that is worth a $10 million investment, they probably have bad business acumen. But it's not a crime to make shit investments. Just like it's not a crime to have bad taste in art.
saxitoxin wrote:- DJT Buyer 1: Trump supporter buying and holding a couple shares to buoy the price. This is a novel campaign donation for him, not an investment. Doesn't mind if Trump eventually dumps a large portion of the stock and crashes the company provided he directs a portion of the proceeds into the campaign.
- DJT Buyer 2: Favor-seeker buying and holding as an alternative to a conventional donation. He's legally prohibited from giving more than $5K directly to the campaign; could start a Super PAC and plow unlimited money in but is then forced to disclose spending which he doesn't want to do for a number of reasons. Investing in DJT as an alternative to either direct donations or Super PAC funding is a way around it.
- DJT Buyer 3: Options trader counting on 1 and 2 holding even if the company implodes.

It's not a crime, legally. It is a crime morally. As you pointed out in your first post, it's basically a way to make a mockery of the campaign finance laws.
President Biden’s recent use of notes and a list of reporters’ names during press events has garnered attention and sparked discussions about presidential communication strategies.
These instances, including a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and an earlier Oval Office meeting, highlight the president’s approach to managing information and engaging with the media.
During the joint press conference, Biden was observed looking down at the podium as he answered questions, indicating the use of notes, which were also visible from the reflection in his sunglasses. At one point, he mentioned having a “list” of reporters to call on next, showcasing a planned approach to handling questions from the media.
One vivid incident occurred in October when Biden was photographed holding a note card containing the names and images of reporters during a press conference. It was noted that all the listed reporters were called on during the event, raising questions about the selection process and the level of spontaneity in addressing questions from the media.
