Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.
And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

How interesting that you ask
Personally, I like to grab a bottle (ok, several bottles) of "special" brew to go along with the annual gorge-fest.
This year I grabbed a 750ml of
Rodenbach Grand Cru:
Origin: Province of West Flanders, Belgium
Style: Flemish Red Ale
Alcohol: 6.0% ABV
While the "regular" version of this famous Flemish "Red Ale" is a blend of old & young beers, the Grand Cru is a straight bottling of the long-matured, stronger component. It is aged in ceiling-high oak tuns for at least two years. The result is a lively (what the wrapper calls "racy") bouquet, with vanilla-like oakiness that extends into the palate; passion fruit flavors; and a clean, sharp acidity like that found in sour cream. Rodenbach Grand Cru would feature in any connoisser's list of the world's top ten beers.
I also have an 8-year old bottle of homemade mead sent to me by a CC favorite Koolbak that I will finally break open. (He's been on my ass about drinking it).
As far as recommendations for a big turkey meal beer; I personally would go for a quality Belgian ale, preferably Trappist.
Chimay, Westmalle, and Orval come to mind.

Thanksgiving is not for defeating the Native Americans, but it is giving thanks to them and to God and for everything.
If it wasn't for the Native American Indians...all the piligrims would have perished, it is just unfortunate that the ancestors of the piligrims would go on to steal the lands of these American Indians. But the work and will of God is His alone, and is not for humans to understand.
I thank God for all His bounty, my family for all their help and patience, my daughter for her understanding, my brother for his service, my country for our current prosperity (however, there will never be an Iraq Day), the Native Americans for their noble gesture (not the one your thinking!) and truly compassionate hearts, the Mexicans for all their hard (but illegal) work, the Chinese for lead in our children's toys, the African Americans for Hip-Hop and peanut butter, the Democrats for starting the Klu Klux Klan, and to the Republicans who fought against it!
Happy Thanksgiving!
