Excellent idea, I am quite curious how this would play out. I do agree with unriggable that you need to create more territories.

Especially the top of South-America and the Island groups should use the small countries / islands that are there.

Then you could divide the bigger continents in regions making areas where you get points for.

Hm. It depends on when exactly the time frame would be. As the Dutch(Holland) did own New England (named New Amsterdam(SP)) at one point before the English took over there.
But of course, you Americans would of known that. (I hope)

New Map Ideas Thread, Open! - Post Ideas Here

Postby AndyDufresne on Tue Jun 12, 2007 8:54 pm

As you know, as a part of our reorganization of the Foundry, we've closed the old Map Ideas thread as it devolved into more of a garbage heap rather than a helpful aid. It can be found HERE. Feel free to retrieve any posts and links from the old thread and post them in this new one following the guidelines to be stated below.

This new thread will be for ideas you’d like to see as a map or in a map, but don’t have the time/care/talent to make. The ideas will be alphabetically ordered by 'Idea Name' and cataloged in this first post. Hopefully this can become a great resource for budding cartographers looking for an idea and for old veterans looking for something new to try! So lets get posting those ideas, following these guidelines, please!

Idea Name

Description: <Here will be the description of the idea (via text or image link)>

Why?: <Why you’d like to see this idea as a map or in a map>

could you merge the idea threads here into this one?

threads like this:
http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21257

or this:
http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21250

or this:
http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21221

or the other numerous 1 post threads.

edit// i'm responding here to the below post to avoid filling the thread with conversation.

so the point is like this:

the guys that posted the threads presented above will probably never take the time to fill a form. so a mod should do it and then lock those threads. also i think this thread should be kept as clean as possible. meaning that all posts that don't have an idea are deleted. just keep ideas updated constantly in the first post and delete everything else. the old ideas thread was full of worthless converssation.

just the countries or the continents and seas aswell?

Image

changes:

+ added 3 territories bringing it up to 36.
+ changed the south eastern island of atlantis and added a border to Lemuria, compensated bonus for this.
+ added a sea border between the land of woc and kur (only increasing borders in the land of woc), compenstaed bonus.

Current specs:

+ 36 territories.
+ 5 continents.

6 players: 6 territories
5 players: 7 territories, 1 neutral
4 players: 9 territories
3 players: 12 territories
2 players: 18 territories

To do list:

+ army circles or some other solution.
+ text for countries: new font or bigger? maybe both.
+ make the sea borders look half decent.

so.... hhmmm are the continents too colourful?

first of all the text has already been higlighted as an issue, secondly there is 4 different texts on the map so please be more specific and lastly please try to say what is actually wrong with something rather than it is just balls. Is it too small, to intricate, are the letters to close together, is the initial type face a poor choice etc....

Is this based off a book, or just out of your imagination? Either way, looks pretty cool.

1. find a theme or if it already has one then tell us what it is.
2. you're aiming for the old map look. something i did on my AoM map. i love it because it's really nice to look and see an actual map not just a pretty image that's supposed to be a map. BUT your colours are way too bright. they form a huge contrast with the old paper you have as a background. try some washed colors like the map is old.
3. although the paper image is ok it originally has some waves and a compass drawn on it. the problem is that in some places those waves intersect with text and make it less visible.
4. also if i'm not mistaking you drew the continents over existing ones. if that's the case and the image you used is already the image of a map then better check for copyright.
5. if the image is copyrighted then make your own old paper like this: take a sheet of A4 paper. crumple it in your hands until you form a ball. do this several times or just once depending on what you need. after the paper is crumpled, make some coffee and spill it on the paper to get some stains. as many as you need. then put the paper in the oven for a few minutes until it turns a little yellow in the center and brownish around the edges and you got yourself a nice looking old paper.

I like the look of this map. I find the bright colors against the vellum very appealing, especially the edge fade.

It does seem to be short of a title.

Some of the colors are too bright, you won't be able to see the colors of your army.

No, that's Alexanders Empire, not the Greek Empire.
The Greek Empire included areas around the Black Sea and all around the Mediterrean, including Southern Italy and some of Sciliy, all of Greece etc. etc.
