Rate Players at the End of a Game

Postby DublinDoogey on Mon Apr 03, 2006 9:03 pm

I've seen the issues of holding, double teaming, and unfair/cheatful alliances brought up very often in the forums as a whole. I believe I have a way to fix this, or at least create awareness about being a good sport.

If users could rate one another, at the end of a game I believe that people would be less inclined to cheat. Sites like eBay have user ratings and if I bought something on eBay I would be much more wary buying from someone rated low when compared to someone with a high rating.

On CC, the players could be rated on a scale of 1-5, based on whether they hold throughout the game, cheat, or whatever. Obviously, much of this would be opinion, but the rating could be hidden for ten games, or untill a good amount of people have rated that specific user.

The way for the holder or cheater to fight this would be simple. Announce in game chat if you know, or think, that you'll be gone for an extended amount of time, and announce alliances. After the alliance is announced, PM's are fine, imho.

Anyway, I truly believe that this could help. People will avoid people who are unfair, and in return, players will try to be better sports and follow the unwritten rules (and the written rules) of Conquer Club.

I defiently think some kind of user rating could be useful but it could also be misused very easily by players bitter about a fair defeat. I think it might be kinda nice to have some of way of seeing how honorabela person is but also a person might decide to change their ways and be stuck with their crappy rating so no one would paly with them meaning they couldn't get it up.

I have to agree with kingwaffles. There's also the problem that what one person considers perfectly acceptable behavior, someone else might find to be counter to the spirit of the game (like forming alliances, trash talking, or only taking turns once a day).

It sounds good in theory. But I'm guessing a large number of people would use it as one last strike of revenge for being knocked out of a game. Not everyone of course would stoop to this level, but I wouldn't rule it out...

I think there are enough immature people on this site that a fair and honorable player could conceivably get a horrendous rating, simply because he was better than eveyone else.

This is a terrible idea to me, because people would be trying to get into games with #U just so they could blacklist him from the top slot.

On a related note, I revived this thread: How to enforce the rules?. I am considering ratings as part of an anti-cheater solution.
