he better start taking turns soon or he will have to do what I did--take a bunch--sleep for two hours--dont forget to set the alarm and do it again--that or he will miss turns

My 45 are still sitting there, shiny, fresh, and totally blocking me from joining games with 50 waiting, rofl :D
Time to wake up and play CC like never before HerkHerk ;)

Every time I look at my 80 active and moan, I'll try to remember ol' Herk at 1300+, snicker, smirk, get a cup of coffee, and feel slightly sorry for the little troll

1033 with 984 waiting for him to take a turn. That's the highest I've seen so far. Herk, you still alive????

I can tell you this--He better start taking turns soon or he is in deep trouble --990 turns to take and I would estimate 800 need to be taken in the next 12 hours--getting near impossible soon. Hope he has a super speedy PC.

With you there, HA. He's down to 2 hours in a few games with me now (only about 5 or 6 games, so really nothing significant in the context of such a massive challenge) but it's what follows on behind that.

He joined a batch of 25 with me 18 hours ago, hasn't taken a first turn in them yet and I think that was around the time yesterday where his active games really shot up quickly from 100+ to 500+
So, I suspect the load over the next 6 hours could be as many as 400 games, and like you say, 800 over the next 12.

This has the potential to go very badly wrong unless he gets online soon, and even once he gets it cleared he still needs to spend time getting another 300 games underway to get the record.

gl again, Herkman

I assume he's on and taking turns now, as my 45 are joined.

1155 results

The record is 1280, right?

Well joining is not the issue--missing will be--since he joined all the games yesterday==nothing is ending soon so he just has to start taking turns to get caught up--I do see he is joining games now though so we will watch.

You do not know the full mental stress this causes until you are into it. After the adrenalin runs out--it is mentally and even physically exhausting.

It is utter insanity :D
I would only even consider it if I knew I had the apartment to myself for two-three weeks, nothing else IRL wise to think about, and a better connection than I have now. I applaud Herks organisation in getting the games going quickly, I would however be far more careful in game selection to make sure I needed to think as little as possible in any given turn ;)

On another note I've never paid much attention to how balanced the who starts random generator is, but it seems to be working very well. Three sets of 15 and I got to start in 7-8-7 games =)

Looks like theherkman has run into trouble already--missing turns starts in less than ten minutes and since he joined so many around this time--no way he will be able to keep from missing them.

It is something crazy to do--players like me love a stupid crazy challenge--the problem is players that want to go for this do not understand how much it takes to do it. Even thought theherkman planned out the joining of the games with great organization--he really did not see what it will take to actually take the turns. He told me he was working --the next two days--well in my opinion you cannot work while trying to do this--you have to put almost 20 hours a day towards this. At least 16.

How does the flag work for location--anyone know--It says he is in Jordan right now and I thought he was from Scotland.

Like I said--no one has been able to go over 700 games and not miss turns (including me) -I do think it is possible and if I ever had a shot at doing it again--I will do it and not miss turns--but no time soon. I am happy with my 100 active games and will be happier when they get under 80.

I understand that it's a crazy challenge, but I guess what I don't understand is why you should do it. There are just so much more better ways to spend your time than sitting around by the computer for 16h a day playing risk ;)

I assume someone's helping him to take his turns. The flag belongs to the last player who logged in and logged off, I think.

I once got to 150 games and that was way... too much. The quality of my turns went down by quite a bit and the enjoyment was gone. I think that optimum number of games at one time is from around 30 to 100, but not more.

It's one thing to have 1300 active games, but if he doesn't keep up with taking the turns, what's the point. It's understandable to miss some, but from the looks of it, he's going to miss way more than a small percentage.

He has already missed about 250 games in our 500 game series, and will miss another every 20 seconds

Man, he is in trouble, and hasn't even broken the record yet. I logged in to take a few turns for him, and it's absolutely crazy. I have a fast computer but even it was struggling to keep up with the load. It's madness. He better be careful that he doesn't get accused of point dumping. I would be interested in taking this challenge on for the most amount of active games, and if I'm going to do it I'll set aside a whole week, maybe 10 days in the summer holidays and go for 2000 active games. :D I'll be interested to see what hs rank is in a week or two.

It's going to be a clear cut case of point dumping. It has been in the past when someone has set up so many games and then deadbeated them.

This whole thread has been a waste of time then--another failure

AoN and myself did the best at this--but even we missed turns.

One day I will try it without missing turns--but until then players need to understand this takes at least 16 hours free time--really more than that--the turns will come flying at you over and over and over for at least four to six days--by that time you are so mentally and physically tired you don't want to play anymore.

Yup, this is one crazy can of worms. There may be a rule put in place after this attempt :(

HighlanderAttack, did you use babysitters when you took the record on?

Everyone seems to be worried with Herk missing, but the goal he set was to "play 1300 active games", not "play well 1300 active games" or "play assiduously 1300 games". I don't really think he is worried about missing or losing points. ;)

That said, I really don't see the point in this particular record, as it shows no skill whatsoever. Anyone that is premium can click "join a game" 1300 times over a 72-hour period. Organizing it effectively isn't really a "skill" in my book. :-$

missing games means he's not playing 1300 games, just that he has them active. That would count as point dumping I would think.

That's the whole point. Anyone can join a bunch of games, but HA and AON both kept up with their games. At this point with all the turns he will not be taking, this attempt should be null and void.

After I fell asleep at the computer and missed about 20 turns--yes--For one day--it was a Saturday and I was down under 900 games I decided I was done. Like I said--no one has a pure record with this level of games.

I hope not--because in my sick twisted mind I want to try it again but without missing any turns--I have the experience to get it done--but I won't do it unless I have all the time and mental energy to try it the right way.
