Your intrepid reporter caught up with Plash.Ricrem following his unoffical 2nd round score of an 82, which is likely to leave him just outside the cut line:
IR: so what happened down the stretch, things were looking good, and then...?
PR (Sipping a jack and coke): Well I was quite pleased with my back 9 performance, but then I double bogied 14, which was sort of unfortunate. Can't really explain how that happened, wasn't a good tee shot and things went downhill from there. But , I still thought I had a decent chance at making the cut if I was able to make a move on 17, so I decided to go for broke and go for the green in 2.
IR: A daring approach.
PR: Yeah, well my front 9 score was putrid, so I decided to gamble a bit more on the back. And things were looking great on 17, I hit a solid drive (knocked out a guy) and was even able to put it on the green in 2! (was in prime position to take the map) And then things got ridiculous. As I was lining up my eagle putt, a bolt of lightening fell from the sky and downed a tree right in the line of my ball (fluke October snow storm cut out my power and I deadbeated a turn allowing whakamole to get back in the match.)
IR: Well that must have been unsettling.
PR: It was certainly unexpected, but I figured I only had a 10 foot putt (had a 3 card set worth a ton), so all I had to do was chip it over the tree and take the birdie. But as I was lining up to chip it, my ball moved and counted as a stroke (unforseen technical difficulties some how caused me to take my turn but not attack, resulting in me not cashing my set, but more importantly not being able to pick up a card).
Eventually, I chipped over, but by then I was rattled, and things just didn't fall right (we went back and forth and I ended up losing when I had to go 5 for a set, something that wouldn't have happened if things hadn't gotten crazy).
IR: Any other thoughts on your performance in this tourney?
PR: I'd go with maddeningly inconsistent. I had flashes of brilliance, and played a solid back 9, but the front 9 of this round was all sorts of forgettable. I think I'll just have to go back to my home course and work on some of those short putts that cost me on the par 5's.
