Hmm, I don't want to make bad juju with you Cairns, but if 'too' and 'to' shouldn't be mixed up, maybe 'empirical' and 'imperial' shouldn't either :P

See what happens when one doesn't consult the dictionary. No bad juju made, i am happy to accept this blunder and will rectify it this weekend. :)

As always, many thanks to Cairns for this information.

Don't know, Somewhere in the lonig distant past it probably was there, but has been eroded by the sand of time. :)

EDIT\\ Category 7 was for WWI, of which there are currently no maps...so that's why it doesn't appear yet. :)

I haven't been bothered as there seems little interest in this thread. Because of the larger number of maps this now takes well over an hour to compile.
It is possible for everyone to do their own stats. Perhaps someone would like to take this task over.

I really love the stats!
The thread is a bit hard to find though, I didn't know it existed until just now.

Out of curiosity, how do you compile the stats? If it takes a lot of effort maybe I could help to automate the process.

cspare...here's the go.
1. run the map move tool (add-on for Firefox- which is broken at present - chipv did this and we ran into problems when the beta section was added to dbase)
2. copy and paste the results into excel
3. in another table take the number of games for each map and paste it into the master table after adding any new maps in beta
4. check the categorizations are correct.
5. copy the whole master table after making any header adjustments into a graphics program
6. save as jpeg and upload to photobucket or somewhere
7. update these stats.
8. when the map map tool doesn't work, you have to perform a simple find games for each map enquiry and take the total number of games generated for each map and plon it into that column on the master sheet in excel.

If you have any better way of doing it, then please try, but i found whichever way i did it, usually takes over an hour to compile to get it into the format above.

no i wasn't pulling anyone's leg, and yes it is a total pita until someone can come up with something that works that will automate the process easily and not make it complicated.

hehe .. read again Cairns.... 'i am sure Cairns and was only pulling your leg." Surely not the best sentence structure but what i am saying is:

I am sure and I was pulling your leg (that your neglect has been based on some conspiracy regarding the site wanting to hide poor Classic Shapes play frequency Stats) ... I am sure that compiling these stats and updating the thread must be a total pain in your arse. ; ) and I do not blame you in the least for not updating.

no offence jiminski but having better sentence structure would surely help...unfortunately too often people are expected to be mind readers in these forums. :?
no, there are no conspiracy theories running here at lease not from my mind anyways.
I simply got sick of doing it seeing that no-one was bothering to reply to it or comment on it...seems to be the general trend that runs parallel with the map foundry. no-one bothers to comment there these days either. :(

I'm working with cspare now on a better solution that removes any need for wasting anyone else's time.

We'll need some assistance from the site, but we'll post results in a new thread, it may take a while but it is being worked on.

Good man ;-) I nearly suggested asking if this was something you might be able to do ;-)

hey cairnswk, this sort of info which may or may not be of interest to various players on this site, should be provided by the site.
A bit like the new maps, tournaments etc.
But this site runs on non paid regular members doing all the donkey work.

I appreciated your input, but like most things here - it's a thankless task.

I find this thread very interesting, however it needs to be more prominent, like a sticky or something. Actually I only find it because I saved the link, and I am sure that very few people know about it.

I understand that it's very time consuming to compile. Perhaps the statistics could be automated or hard coded? I don't think that would be very difficult to do. I am sure that with all these talented people on the forum someone will come with a solution. Perhaps a statistics tab could be added to left menu as well?

Another thing that needs to be done is for a link to be added to the news section on the main page whenever it is updated, just like when a new map goes live. This will definitely give it more prominence.

Good luck and thanks cairns for keeping us posted with all these statistics. We miss them! :(

Classic on 21st Sept - 1016829

Classic Shapes (includes all old classic games) on 2nd Nov - 1070560

Difference - 53731

Art went up on 23rd Oct (went by when Lack made the announcement)

23rd Oct - 21st Sept = 32 days (does not include 21st sept)

2nd Nov - 23rd Oct = 11 days (includes both dates)

53731/(32+11) = 53731/43 = 1249.558 games per day

1249.558 x 11 days = 13745.139 games

Classic Art - 4830 results

13745 shapes vs 4830 art (note that this is only a crude approximation as I have assumed the number of games per day are equal and that all calculations were taken at the exact same time on all the different days that they were done)
