CC Maps And Mapmaker Webpage

Click CC Maps And Mapmaker Webpage to go to the webpage.

These webpages show detailed information on maps and mapmakers on the Conquer Club site.
This can be useful particularly if you have never played particular maps before.

There are several ways to get information :

1. Search by individual map.

Select from the map dropdown.

You will see information on that particular map like this:

Image

The list of features appears at the bottom right of the map.
Click on the feature name to get a description of the feature.
Click on example to show all examples of that feature on the map (A white 88 with a white border is displayed on relevant territories):

Image

2. Search by Maker

You can get information on which maps a particular mapmaker was involved in by selecting from the maker dropdown.

Image

3. Search by Quench Date

Gives an ordered list of maps according which month/year you have selected from the dropdowns.

4. Search by multiple features

You can search for maps with specific features using the multiple select Features dropdown.
Hold CTRL and select multiple features to see maps with all of those features.

5. Search mapmakers by country

Select from Country dropdown to see mapmakers from that country.

Click CC Maps And Mapmaker Webpage to go to the webpage.

I would suggest the addition of "Symmetrical Map" for US Senate, Chinese Checkers and any others that are symmetrical

Battle for Iraq has "Trapped Territories"
On "Poker Club" it's hard to see the "examples of"

Otherwise It's great.

Also add that scripts need to be enabled for your site as well for the popups.

Added Trapped Territories to Battle for Iraq, thanks.

Yes, I know what you mean about Poker Club and numerous tags on maps where
the examples cover almost all territories.

At the moment examples means "all instances of".

I am considering adding another link with a single example.

Chip, that's a fantastic tool!

A couple of suggestions to make it more useful for newbies (who care more about the features than the mapmakers, sadly):
  • re-order the columns to Map>Features>Launched>Idea>Gameplay>Graphics>XML
(most people will probably be looking for features before designer and not everyone will know what "Quenched" means)
  • Add a "related maps" link on all map pages which shows 3-5 maps which are like the one you're looking at (based on similar special features, number of territories, gameplay designer - in that order)
  • Get rid of the plain text URL for Discussion topic, thumbnail etc. and just link the text, then maybe make it a table or lay it out differently so it's not just a series of lists.
  • Make the number of territories linked to all maps with maps within 5 territories of that number (i.e. Territories 90 -- Click on the 90 and you will list all maps with 85-95 territories)
  • Add a link for "other maps with this special feature" link next to the features link on a specific map. Also add a link to "show all maps with this special feature" on the inner_content link which explains each special feature on the main page and map page.
  • Add a "home" button to take back to the main list - I know the All search would do this, but not everyone will think of that straight away.
  • The special features lists seem cluttered - it feels like a lot of information that will take a lot of time to sift through. If at some point someone wanted to put in little icons to replace that, it might make it feel less overwhelming for new players
  • Put a link to the discussion right on the search list
  • Paginate or do something like this, this or this (all pure CSS) and use tabs for each special feature (probably what most users are looking to find out)

Bugs:

Overall a frickin awesome tool Chip (and Gimil)! you guys got a LOT of data collected and squeezed in there. Lovin it.

Chip, did you recently alphabetize the list of features for each map? I swear that I looked yesterday and it was not done, so I was about to suggest it. Am I going crazy?

Thanks, Gilligan.

Trouble is that I need the xml co-ordinates for this map also in order to display graphical examples of features.

Do you also have this somewhere?

Some Map descriptions have been added where they have been given here:

viewtopic.php?f=127&t=74233

Go to one of these map pages on the webpage and you'll see the description in italics on the right hand side.

IF you can make sense of this for the old Canada Map -- http://www.geocities.com/supermarcol/prog.txt it might be an old xml file, but also might have mistakes in it and it may not have been the final xml.

Starting Neutrals Feature Tag added with graphical examples.

This does not apply to Conquest Gameplay tagged maps as this is implied.

Is this going to become part of Conquerclub? Or stay on your separate site?
Seems like it would be a good idea to make that page part of CC itself.
