Meant to edit first post, accidently used "quote."

Forgot to put the Elephant back. The Elephant will return. :)

Dark or light shadows?

It's a tricky choice because that changes the feeling of the map significantly, but I would say light because dark looks awful with the blue numbers.

I think white is better but I offer the choice because I'm sure somebody would ask the question. :)

Here's the large map. Couple of minor changes.

*Sundarbans territory enlarged so "Sundarbans" isn't quite so squashed

*Elephant back

*Stray pixels cleaned up along the borders

I think the elephant should be more opaque.

Personally i think the army circles are a bit too small and make the elephant less visible

Less visible? The Elephant is on 10%. Any less visible and it will be gone. Perhaps you don't want the elephant after all.

I think the elephant adds a certain charm to the map. It's not in the way of anything so why should it be more opaque than it already is?

I was wondering if you could make the writing of Diu stand out a little more. It's tough to see with the pink background.

Yep. Good call. It will be better over the sea, like Calcutta.

I have the perfect image of a yellow diamond for it but at that resolution it doesn't look much like a jewel. It looks a cheesey, blurry mess.

I can't do an artistic equivalent. So, sorry, not possible. Good idea though.

Sorry, missed this comment from earlier

Discussed earlier... concensus seems to be to keep the background dark.

Streuth!

(Awesome, but... no.)

* I've added some glisten to the dot.

* Diu moved.

Uh?

Sorry, I thought you were joking. I don't think your jewel graphic suits the map at all. The glisten effect I've drawn is more in keeping with the style.

This map is not about presentation anyway. World 2.0 isn't fancy but people play it. Why? It has awesome playability. I want acceptable presentation but nothing fancy.

It's time to stop messing about with it, I think.

I have an issue with the name:

The two varients seen in both mass media and scholarly works are The Jewel IN the CROWN or the Jewel OF the Empire. Your title is the Jewel IN the Empire. It should be OF really.

Okay. Will change.

Right now, I think I've drawn up an exiting small (five-player) map that looks good - but I don't hear calls for "final forge." Why? Nor is this thread, it seems to me, attracting a great deal of interest. Very knowledgeable people have replied which is great. But on the really cool maps it seems to me you get lots of random comments... therefore, this cannot be a really cool map.

What do I have to do to make it cool (while keeping it simple enough for an art moron to do)?

Since I moved it I've been moved to add sparkle on the dot of the I. The subtitle may now look better below the title. In the next update.

* Jewel "of" the Empire

* Moved "Jewel of the Empire" below title

* Rajputana circle moved slightly to the right.

You have a map of a very specific location, one country infact, and at a specific time period. It does not have a wide appeal but it is not suppose to. Those who could care less about india or colonialism probably wont play this map unless it turns out to have great game play. but those who dig india will love it. and the rest will just give a shot for the hell of it.

so dont worry about the amount of replies in this thread. just keep going and it will get into the forge in due time.

personally i would like to see some red and gold going on because that reminds me of india, and maybe a jewel!. i dont think this map has much indian flavor beside the shape of the country.
