Static files moved

Postby lackattack on Tue Jul 07, 2009 1:45 pm

The location of our static files has changed from http://static.conquerclub.com/... to static.conquerclub.com/...

This shouldn't make any difference at all for most members.

If you have problems seeing website graphics or everything looks funny, please try these steps:

  • Try pressing control-F5 and wait patiently for the website to load again
  • If you have image blocking activated you may have to set an exception for static.conquerclub.com as well. Firefox users can follow these steps:
    1) Tools --> Options...
    2) Content Tab.
    3) Make sure that "Load Images automatically" is on.
    4) Make sure that there are no web-sites listed (or at least that conquerclub.com is not listed) in the corresponding exceptions (Second exceptions button).
  • Try disabling the Firefox Greasemonkey addon
  • Submit a support ticket via the Help page telling us what you see when you visit this test page: http://static.conquerclub.comtest.html

We changed the location because the static files are now being hosted on the Amazon CloudFront instead of our main web servers. This move will reduce our bandwith costs (which are quite high) and should improve download times for our international members because Amazon CloudFront distributes files from Europe and Asia as well as North America.

=======

Also on the server front, we experienced 19 minutes of downtime today :( Rackspace, our hosting company, had some sort of power loss and they are looking into the cause...

If something is missing, try pressing Ctrl F5 to reload the images. :)

I was about to say the same.
First off, I couldn't see any of the images of the players taking their turns:

However, each time I refreshed (using the clickies refresh hotkey) the ranks all dissapeared for half a second:

Then, when I had restarted Firefox and re-entered the game I could see some of the images:

These images dissapeared when I refreshed...
The interesting thing is that only that game was affected:

is this the reason cc is moving sluggishly? im getting about 5-8 second lag after clicking an icon or a move for it to actually happen for the past couple hours.

Try disabling the Firefox Greasemonkey addon

Done, but to no avail.

Everything seems okay on IExplorer...

Maybe this just affects Firefox users ?

From a technical standpoint, would love to hear more about your experiences with the Amazon Cloud -- we've been thinking about it in my company.

Thanks!

I agree, when I got on it was okay, then all the sudden I started getting really bad lag and icons missing here and there. I tried CTRL F5 but I was still experiencing difficulties. And now everything I try to do, such as just going to join a game and looking at my wall, seems like it takes a minute to load the page. The whole site is a little sluggish mate. :(
