Well I voted yes, but no map could be as beautiful as tisha.
And there is an important point of comparison.
Neither map has turtles.

I think the large point of Discworld being flat has been missed...

Turtle would be cool, but I do like the classic.

Im against a revamp. I like nostalgia, and especially on theme based maps I would never like to see a revamp. When the England map was revamped I thought it was a shame that one of the oldest maps was totally changed in graphics, as I rather fancy old scool looking shit.

But Discworld would be another story. England was a map based on a country and it would maybe be kinda weird to make another England map. Discworld is a classic map, one of the first based on a theme that had little to do with the real world, It looks like a map from 10 years ago, yes, but hey, so does look the entire lay out of CC.

Use your talent and map making skills to make Disc World 2.0 with fancy graphics and more complex and fun game play, I see no need to completely change the lay out of a map that is a CC history piece.

(For the lulz: My first 2 years on CC I always thought the map was called ''Disco World'', and I didn't understand shit about why the graphics had nothing to do with Disco  )

Revamp is good but skip the effects, stars and sun and stuff like that. Add elephants and a turtle with good light colors and you have my go. Proposed map in OP doesn't look good to me and I prefer current version over proposed right now. But revamp would be cool.

I'm in favour.

Some richer colours like you have there would be nice.

Anyone who doesn't vote to revamp the old sad maps like discworld can PM me for a foot straight up their ass. The graphics of this site are crap (I mean the UI, not the maps) and we really need awesome looking maps. Discworld is an example of a map with very good gameplay that needs a more modern look.

tl;dr? Vote yes or I'll f*ck you up.
Thats 15 feet now, if you need my size 13 to help out, i can!

Does anyone have any details of the permission given by the Discworld copyright holder regarding this map? Does CC have the right to alter this map or create another in its place?

No details in public, not sure if jota ever gave any to the foundry people or directly to lack before this went live. Here's what he posted on the forum:

http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 8286#p8286

So I would assume as long as it's all derivative work (nothing copied from Pratchett) then it should still be fine.

Yes I too read the permission granted being as valid for a revamp as it was for the original map.

To be safe, it might be a good idea to contact Mr. Pratchett again.

Here's an earlier version of Jota's original map:

It looks like he had to remove the turtle, so that might be proprietary material.

But he basically worked from this:

I love what MB has done. It would be a significant graphics upgrade. Is there a way for us to contact Jota, maybe by sending him an email?

The above is way badass... but comon guys.. lets just make our own maps instead of going after old maps to get medals. If you got the skills... make your own map, unless our maps have a serious problem and are un-playable because of some old graphic glitch... leave em alone.

I highly doubt ManB is doing this for a medal. I think it's more likely he realizes what a good map this is to play on, but it sucks graphics wise. You know, like North America did, and that's why they revamped it.

So what if he chooses to spend his time making a map with fine gameplay better? It's his choice, not yours. People are harping about how the aesthetic of this website is very 1996 still, so why don't we focus on the maps that look like they were made back then and correct them so they look nice?

I didn't like also the revamp of NA map. True, that the aesthetic of the website is very 1996. But new maps come, and they will look more modern. But if you feel more nostalgic than you can play this old maps.

We have many maps, and not every map should be equal. Game play is different, image is different, style is different, why should we have the same "modern" aesthetics. It should be more variate. In 3 years, you'll say the same of the new maps, and you'll be revamping all the maps.

Why start with this map then? Why not start with the maps that actually look like crap on this site... I can name at least 10 that should be revamped before this one... some made within the last couple years! Do those first.

Thanks

I don't think a revamp is vital. It wouldn't hurt, however. I STRONGLY oppose the "example" graphic. It's a beautiful PICTURE, but a crummy map. MUCH more contrast needed for my old eyes.

Please remember, the purpose of a CC map should be first and foremost to be a CLEAR DEPICTION OF THE GAME IN PROGRESS. Looking "stylish" is a DISTANT secondary concern.

Lets revamp the site to not look 1996, then we can look at the maps.

the new idea looks a little too globe like and not enough disc-like from that angle though.

Voted "No" to revamp before I looked at proposed revamp, just a quick glanced made me change my vote. New map looks awesome :)

Go ahead and propose some revamps. Joe and his staff probably wouldn't be opposed to it if the graphics were stale and needed a refresh.

These are just maps I think would need revamp before DISC world... and just the ones I think people enjoy playing on... haven't even mentioned the bad looking maps that I don't think make good maps at all.

Oh and put this at the top of the revamp list.
