He doesn't seem to be in danger of overlap issues with three digits. I'd rather have working xml to play with as the top priority.

The circles still seem a touch small for any double-digit numbers not in the teens....

congrats on the final forge. =D>

I would agree. I think they could do with being a little bigger. But otherwise it looks ready to me. :D

The small circles are up to 20 pixels, which is the same as many small maps. They probably won't get any bigger, but in the next post they should look a bit cleaner.

I should have time tonight for some serious army alignment. As for two digit numbers, "8" actually is one of the more forgiving numbers since it tapers at the top... "5" and "7" are the worst offenders as they are flat and wide where the circle is at its most narrow. But everybody uses 88 because it is symmetrical and easy to see where the alignment is off.

3 digit numbers never fit, nor do numbers withthe color blind help... I've decided my next map will NOT have army circles at all!

We aren't worried about them fitting, but they happen often enough that we need to be sure it won't cause numbers to overlap each other, territory names, or small borders (as in small enough the army number would hide the fact the border is there). None of these things look like they'll be a problem on your map. Still no army circles is acceptable. You probably could have gotten away with that here.

I tried putting the numbers directly on the map (may have posted a version), and while they are readable I find that the numbers get lost against the textured backgroudnd. Centering is a drag, but I feel the circles are a necessary evil on this map.

Small map is max size... 600 pix wide. I've been concerned about the small map size myself, and so I'm going to be playing with making the actual playing area larger with the map frame. I've thought it out but haven't had time to actually get in and fuss with it.

And thanks for the congrats as well as everyone's past comments... getting thoughtful feedback has certainly helped the map move along so quickly.

I think that small max size is 630x600,so you have more space.
Also i belive that 88 number is best option for centering numbers in Army circle. 20px is small for army circle, and you must create that army circle in large and small version be same size.
I must say that in mine map(small and large) all army shadows is same dimension 24px,and numbers fit perfect.

I've seen this figure thrown around lately, but is it correct? I think it's 600x600.

How To Make a Map wrote:The type of image file must be PNG, GIF, or JPEG. You must design two versions of the map: a small (up to 600 px wide), and a large (up to 800 px wide). Height is flexible, but it is recommended that you do not exceed 350 px on small maps and 600 px on large maps so that users will not need to scroll down to attack. Height must not be any greater than 600px on small maps and 800px on large maps.

it is 600x600. 630x600 is the absolute maximum that the size restrictions will allow for small maps. so u can enlarge ur small a bit if its too cramp.

We have 630 in another more obscure post so that new map makers don't see it right away. At least, that's my theory. I may sidestep protocol and 'update' the one you quoted from the other one.

Anyway, you are supposed to have authorized permission from a CA or Andy to go to 630 for the small or 840 for the large, which you aren't going to get from me. I don't understand why you may need it.

Don't want it, never asked for it. 600 is fine.

here are the requisite 88s. Large map circles are 24 pix, small 20. I'd like them to be bigger as per large map, but they'll start bumping into borders and names.

The coordinates were the last piece of the xml. Wouldn't hurt for me to review it to triple check all the connections, but I think it's done.

All looks good to me; may be some army centering problems.

thanks for the xml link... ran it through the xml_reader and i think the attack routes are working.

If anybody sees coordinates out of place let me know... I actually think they're pretty good, though some look a bit wonky because the background isn't solid. Of course, my eyes lost the ability to focus an hour ago, so I am probably missing some errors.

Would you mind supplying us with 3 digit coordinate images? Just to make sure there isn't any over lap or confusing areas.

I also have some slight trouble with the some of the names on the small map, mostly in the 'lighter' areas, but I'm not sure you can do anything more to increase readability.

Three digit coordinates below. We do lose a soldier's head, but I think we can consider that a casualty of war. I hadn't noticed before now that CC doesn't center the 3 digits, but just the first two, then it extends the third. or is this just what the XML test tool does?

Names are a bit small, but I take solace in the fact that it would be hard to mistake any of the names for any other - nobody is going to think that Hohenschonhausen is Charlottenberg and place in the wrong territory.

It's the way CC is.

In regards to the font size, I agree with your statements.
