Welcome Comrades to the 35th edition of the Dispatch. The past week has been a sad one for CCers with the passing of chat moderator
MrMoody This is awful news and has affected many CCers greatly, not least fellow chat moderators,
slowreactor ,
jakewilliams and
InsomniaRed and all of the chat regulars. A few of them PMed me with their thoughts for the newsletter. It is hard to put words to such a situation but these guys tried.
jakewilliams wrote: MrMoody was the first moderator I remember having contact with on the site, back when I was a freemium looking for RT games. I have tried to emulate his style on how a chat mod should act - friendly toward regulars and new people alike, firm on the rules but fair, and never afraid to use a/s/l to break up any silence or tension. He was a model for how a mod should act. He has my respect as a moderator not because he deserved it (which he did), but because he earned it.

He always knew what to say to make me laugh or smile and I could always count on him for anything. He will be very greatly missed. And i know that, while right now it seems that he is gone forever, I will see him again and I know that he is finally happy. I love you Moody, from the bottom of my heart. You were the best friend a girl could ask for.
MrMoody was a popular chat moderator and will be sorely missed.
I leave you with a poem chosen by
stahrgazer to commemorate MrMoody's passing.

Newsletter Executive I cannot say, and I will not say
That he is dead--. He is just away!
With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand
He has wandered into an unknown land,
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be, since he lingers there.
And you-- O you, who the wildest yearn
For the old-time step and the glad return--,
Think of him faring on, as dear
In the love of There as the love of Here;
And loyal still, as he gave the blows
Of his warrior-strength to his country's foes--.
Mild and gentle, as he was brave--,
When the sweetest love of his life he gave
To simple things--: Where the violets grew
Blue as the eyes they were likened to,
The touches of his hands have strayed
As reverently as his lips have prayed:
When the little brown thrush that harshly chirred
Was dear to him as the mocking-bird;
And he pitied as much as a man in pain
A writhing honey-bee wet with rain--.
Think of him still as the same, I say:
He is not dead-- he is just away!

Still a CC geek after a year. I started out as a newt. A n00b. A plebe. Now that Iām a year old what am I? Not a newt but still clueless in many ways. They are just not usually so obvious anymore! But one thing I know for sure: Iām still a little kid at heart who likes to get a happy face sticker from the dentist after he has fixed my teeth. The other week I got this in my PM box: admin wrote: Hello elfish_lad,

Iām sure, if any of my family or co-workers had looked at me at the very moment when I opened that PM they would have seen an odd little grin on my goofy little elf-like face. I wasnāt trying for it. Wasnāt expecting it. I gave up trying to figure out what I had to do to get it. I was just playing games with people I enjoy playing games with. And I got a little medal. And I smiled. Sweet. And it reminded me of something else: when I stop finding fun here Iām gone. Like many before me. At least for awhile. I have plenty of real-life drama. Not looking for the virtual kind. So the little āhappy face stickerā from CC last week made my day. It reminded me of why I joined in the first place: have a little fun at a competitive game. So if you are feeling like CC is getting stale? Maybe do something different. Join a game type you have never played before. Audition for a clan, (I had to wear a tutu, sing a Broadway show tune in front of critics, show that I could whip up an omlete with just 2 eggs, a box of oatmeal, and a green pepper... and it had to taste good, and guess which potential clan mate was really a marsupial with a laptop... I got 3 out of 4 anyway), write an odd article for the paper, or whatever. Or not. If not? Just donāt join any of my games. Iām enjoying my little CC happy face sticker right now and donāt want you to bring me down! See ya in the pit mate, E.
Society of the Cooks by dhallmeyer show
What is the Society of the Cooks? The Society of Cooks is your first step in gaining and holding a higher rank. Points aren't everything by any means and just a small part of what you gain. This is a place to learn to play cohesively and competitively with the very people hunting you for easy points. Here at the society we teach you the skill of Terminator style games. As well as the value of standard style games. A few success stories from the Society: macbone: "I joined CC last year, and while I was browsing the Strategy forum, I came across the Society of the Cooks, and even though I had finished only two or three games, I wanted extra training. The SoC's strategy was different from what I was used to, and I didn't have immediate success, but something clicked when I used my SoC training to sweep a standard Charleston game. When mpjh and wacicha asked me to become a teacher, I jumped at the chance to pass on what teachers like dhallmeyer, mpjh, and the rest of the SoC staff had taught me. In my private life, I'm a freelance adventurer-for-hire, and I enjoy knocking around seedy restaurants and combing through thrift stores." Bruceswar: "How does one become a everyday CC regular? Simple as the game is addicting! I got started when a real life friend shown me the game on his PC. I would sign up later that day and jump into some games. I lasted about a month of being freeium before I wanted more action. I paid the $25.00(Cheap for what it is) price and enjoyed many games. For the next few months I spent my time getting my ass handed to me. I learned along the way from some of the games great players, Scott-land, Prankcall, Poo-maker, etc. I took a liking to freestyle and escalating in general. I would later branch out into most all styles of play. With that said, once I had found my feet I started to offer to help others. I felt it was good to give back to the game I liked, as others had given me tips and helped me out. I would then some time later find my way into the SOC area as wanting to be a teacher. Wacicha took me in and I was on my way teaching students. I helped in the terminator area, but my main focus was in the team game section. I worked within the walls of the SOC for about 1 1/2 and recently joined Team CC. Teaching is what I like to do, and I will keep doing it until I one day fully retire from CC. Until then there is always that next up and coming star." mpjh: "I was having fitful sleep one night. During one tumult into rem sleep an angel appeared at the foot of my bed. She was radiant red, glowing and filling the entire room with bouncing red light. I was stunned. At first I didn't know what to do or say, but a calm came over me and I was able to ask, "Who are you?" The angel said "Go to your computer and Google Conquer Club, then follow the instructions." Suddenly, she was gone, and I awoke with a start. I immediately went to my computer and did as she commanded. I have been here ever since." dhallmeyer: "I joined CC because I was looking for a place to play a strategy game online. I actually won a game or two right off, by sheer luck it would seem. I soon got frustrated by not knowing what I was doing. I searched the forums and kept reading about this mysterious Society that trains people. I pm'd Wacicha and he graciously let me in, even though I was still a private. the teachers were really helpful and didn't mind my occasional nerdy-ness. Since I was a freemium then, I constantly watched other people's games in the classroom and learned the basics of playing escalating. I now play mostly escalating on classic, although the I really like playing random maps to shake things up. When I'm not taking over the world, I make surveyor supply products and teach my 6 kiddos."
Controversially Colonel To Conqueror ā Emmdizzle by TheSaxLad show
The Saxlad Presents Controversially Colonel To Conqueror ā Emmdizzle Cheat or Clever? Emmdizzle Started out Life as a new recruit on Sun Apr 20, 2008 5:10 am (Precise eh?). As like all of us he had his upās and downs to start with moving up and down the ranks quite unnoticeably till the first of his many āmisdemeanoursā (or not as the case may be). Before he became conqueror (and before the crackdown of the double turn) Emmdizzle became quite infamous for his use of the freestyle double turn, especially on the Oasis map. But as this way of advancing was taken out in the mid-2009ās Emm knew he had to find a new way to reach the heights of his most treasured possession, āConquerorā However it didnāt take long for Emmdizzle to form a new battle plan as in late 2009, Beckytheblondie started out what would be one of CC most contested and fought out battles of all time. Off The Maps. In the first instance Emm was accused of invitational abuse( Emmdizzle would invite a lower ranked player on each team therefore breaking up teams) claimants claimed that it was... An exceptional way of trying to avoid established teams, is what this is.
And Players should not use the Invite a person to get around having a good team join vs them. Sure while it may not be the same thing as a ? joining ... but for the same token this falls under... Unwritten Rules Obviously any gross abuse of the game is forbidden. This includes but is not limited to: throwing games or deliberately benefiting from thrown games, intentional deadbeating, holding players hostage, serial teammate killing, hijacking accounts, systematically "farming" new recruits. Any way you slice this it falls under abuse.
However King Sam quashed these claims, and after a 46 post, 3 page saga the matter was closed with Emmdizzle being fully cleared of any wrongdoing, however it didnāt take long for the matter to be opened again. In June 2010, Waseemalim again opened the case against Emmdizzle again with: Abusing the invite system. Baiting on unsuspecting noobs.
Once again the massive saga continued with arguments on both sides, and even a poll in which 80% of 98 people voted that Emmdizzle was abusing the system! And on this reopening it was looked into once again and this time was noted by the Cheating and Abuse Moderators. This time this led to a massive Emmdizzle uprising with even a strategy guide produced to the strategy of Emmdizzle so that everyone could follow it, and ended up producing an 11 page juggernaught which was eventually locked by clapper as it had become a flame wars all of itās own.http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=122025 But after all the flaming, and all the antics on the 16th July Emmdizzle finally became Conqueror knocking Blitzaholic off the top spot. So you think that would be it. Sure a couple of people would moan but Emmdizzle was now conqueror, surely he would gain the respect of the community. But Oh no. The Community decided that he cheated, he was not fit to be conqueror and subsequently has been the aim for two more cheating and abuse reports, both of which have been stopped by the mods, the last one happening only on the day I was typing this, and that was closed by lord voldemort. So. Is the Emmdizzle Saga over...? No, Is it likely to end soon? Probably not till another person becomes conqueror. And For Emmdizzle, he hopes that day never comes. The Saxlad P.S Now See Below For An Interview With Emmdizzle P.P.S Fancy Some Tea Nagerous?
show: Interrogation of Emmdizzle
Q. Hey there Emmdizzle Q. Can I call you Emm? Sure, most players do. Q. First off, congratulations on being made conqueror. How does being the highest ranked member on this site make you feel? Feels great. It's something only a few players have accomplished. Q. What is your next conquer club related goal? To build a strong clan. For instance, in the last few weeks, I've recruited 30 new members (a couple Lieutenants, a few Majors, 20 Colonels, 1 Brig, and 1 General) to go from 23 members to 53. Q. Do you "endorse" the Oasis Doubles strategy guide made by waseemalim? The strategic elements, of course. The sarcastic ones...definitely not. Q. Have you ever visited an "actual" Oasis before? In the desert? No. But an actual Oasis, yes. Q. Other than yourself which conqueror do you think is the best strategic player? Scott-land Q. Do you want to quit while you are ahead or will you accept team game challenges from other high ranked players that want a piece of you - on game settings you accept of course? Of course I will accept challenges. Oasis was just a tool to get the top, now that I achieved that, the challenges are what I'm looking for. Q. How does it feel to be the most talked about player on CC right now? Do you hate it or do you relish in the fact that your name is typed across CC screens everywhere? Even though a lot of it was negative, I did find myself logging in just to see what people were saying, even if it was trash talk. Q. Do you have a secret crush on any of the "top-notch" male/female players? No. Q. Your favourite mod and why? Ijex, because he was objective and not emotional in the forums. Q. You are relatively quiet in the forum in general, if you were to get more involved in an area of CC, what would it be - clans, tournaments, foundry etc.? Definitely clans...because of all the new members. They're all very excited to be members of A Fistful of Sixes. I want it to be an excellent CC experience for all of them. Q. How many people do you have working on your farm with you? None. Q. Do You Dazzle with your dizzle... emm? Don't know what that means. Q. Outside of CC, what is your favourite movie? Pulp Fiction Q. Favourite book? The Firm Q. Favourite recording artist/musician? EMMinem of course Q. What else do you like to do in your spare time? Bowling, driving fast cars, and traveling with my lovely wife. Q. Thanks for your time Emmdizzle!

Fastest to answer was sonicsteve :The scoreboard only covers completed tournaments, which so far are HA's manual 64 and DJ Teflon's Speed Terminator. You'll only be on the scoreboard right now if you competed in one of those, otherwise you'll appear there once one of the TPA events you're currently in finishes.
And barterer2002 added:As sonic noted, I update the scoreboard when a tournament ends. We should be getting some more ending shortly but so far only 2 have done so. Once a tournament that you were in ends you will appear on the scoreboard.
A few days later barterer surprised people with an updated scoreboard (which is available to see for everybody now):For those stat heads out there I've added a second spreadsheet with some additional stats on them (wins, top 5, top 10, finals played in, percentage joined, percentage won, percentage top 5, percentage top 10, percent entered won, percent entered top 5, and percent entered top 10. If there are any other stats that you want me to look at I can see if they're easily doable too. The additional page is sorted by wins, then top 5s then top 10s then finals played in.
Independence Day Contest Complete by jrh_cardinal show
The results are in for the Independence Day Tournament Contest . Entrants in the Contest were required to create a tournament idea related to United States Independence Day. Nine different organizers stepped up to the challenge, creating ingenious ideas that exceeded all expectations. Tupence, the Director of the Contest said "...I was really surprised with the amount of time people must have spent designing their entries. We decided to put all 9 entries up for voting because all the entries were so good, we felt they all deserved a chance at winning." The Conquer Club public then voted on their three favorite designs, with each winner receiving a General Achievement Medal for the Contest. The three winners are HighlanderAttack , DJ Teflon , and White Moose . HighlanderAttack created the tournament HA's 4th of July , which takes participants through a history of the United States and the Independence Day holiday. When asked what inspired his tournament idea, HighlanderAttack responded "As usual when I create a holiday tourney--I Google it, read about it, and insert the appropriate maps. Whatever my brain comes up with is the final product." DJ Teflon also based his tournament, Time Lord Vol I - Independance Day , on the history of the United States and more specifically, US Independence Day. However, he also added the storyline of a time traveler attempting to foil the evil plots of the Galactic Federation, who are trying to destroy the American Civilization in various key time periods in the past, present, and future. As to what inspired this idea, DJ Teflon answered "For a while, it has been part of my second big plan (along with developing speed tournaments), to have a Time Lord tournament series. He will be venturing through the history and future of a fantasy CC universe. The contest gave me some extra motivation to get the series started." White Moose took a slightly different approach with his entry, Independence Day . Rather than the history of Independence Day, he chose a Science Fiction approach. The tournament is based around one day, July 4th, when aliens attempt to take over Earth and destroy the human race. Each important happening in the storyline is another round of the tournament, culminating with the destruction of the alien spaceships and the two men responsible returning to earth as heroes. What inspired his idea? White Moose replied "My tournament was obviously inspired by the movie Independence Day. Growing up it was one of my favorite movies." Congratulations to the three winners, and be on the lookout for the next Tournament Contest put on by Tupence and the rest of the Tournament Director team
Play-Now Tournaments by jleonnn show

Now, if any tournament organizer is in need of reserves, he can just post it in the thread with the link to his tournament and any person who wants to be a reserve will sign up in the tournament thread. Well, it seems to be working extremely well. Most people find it very useful."My first experience with this is great " says amazzony. "For 2009-10 NCAA Football 1v1 tournament I got 4 reserves (needed only 2) with less than 24 hours and first person signed up 11 hours after I made the post." "My experience with this unbelievable!" sensfan is quoted saying. "Within 4 hours I found the person I needed! Thank you! " I asked some players and the response was about the same. "It works great, And it makes it easy for gathering people." skillfusniper33.

Look here for more details.Monsters Invade CCDolomite13 's Monsters! map has finally been stamped with the official Foundry brand. There was only one major gameplay change during its Beta period- the lightning bolt spell now has a -2 decay rather than being a killer neutral-3. Besides that, the map still sports sneaky wizards battling for control of monsters, in order to get their sweaty palms on the powerstones that will give them dominance. So, fellow conquerors, enjoy a trip into the danger-filled Cavern of Power and go zap something! And oh yes, congratulations to our very own dolomite13 Fabled Islands of Atlantis Get Quenched After an extended period of Beta testing, the Atlantis map has been deemed ready for the CC community at large. First-time mapmakers Premier2k and NemesisChild have changed the map so that it now features an assault option from the center through the Temple of Poseidon, hopefully increasing the value of that area. A combination of conquest-style gameplay and standard head-to-head fighting, the map is as unique as the legend it depicts. Congratulations Premier2k and NemesisChild for their patience and hard work The Armies of Thysenal Sally Into Beta The Bison King 's first map has charged through the Foundry in just four months to go Beta. A fantasy map set in an age of feudal kingdoms entering the Industrial era, Thysenal features a dual set of bonuses: one in the standard 'continent' style, and the other for holding roads that connect important cities, much like the Indian Empire map. However, unlike the Indian Empire map, the roads also serve a gameplay purpose, as they allow quick movement across the land of Thysenal. The graphics are excellent, featuring a beautiful watercolor background and intricate icons. For those who play the it, I would recommend at least looking at the large map, as it features several interesting bits of flavor that didn't fit on the small map. Best of luck and congratulations to fellow Foundry writer The Bison King ! Napoleonic Europe Available Although this map was quoted as being available for Beta play in the last issue, it did not actually go live on CC until this past week. Lack was apparently delayed in uploading the map, so apologies to readers who looked to start a game on the map after last issue. It is definitely available now however (I'm in several games) so check it out and start conquering!

Map Showroom Want to comment on a map? Click map name to visit it's development thread! Zombie Invasion Author(s): Marshalney Map style: Standard Map size: Large Forum: Graphics Development status: Zombies are coming! You are trapped in a city infested with bloodthirsty, brain-eating zombies. The streets are filled with them. You are surrounded in your house, and the only way out is by a helicopter, which is behind a horde of zombies. What will you do? This is the question that Marshalney's first map poses. It features 8 buildings in a city, and a gameplay that complements the theme well - the streets are filled with zombies who kill all your troops unless you move them indoors to safety. Central to the map is a helicopter field, which provides the way out from the city. Graphically (and otherwise) the map aims to create a dark, apocalyptic mood, where every man fights for his own survival in the mayhem of the zombie hordes. Zombies as a theme is an unique idea, one that has not been properly explored in CC maps before. Hopefully this map will manage to fill that niche. Currently, the map has just arrived in the Graphics workshop, and details for the graphical design are being worked out. Northwest Passage Author(s): shakeycat Map style: Standard Map size: Medium Forum: Gameplay Development status: This map features the expeditions of Roald Amundsen, in his famous discovery of the Northwest Passage, a route by the arctic sea. Included are also other similar but later expeditions. The map strives to be a tribute to these brave explorers, as it follows the routes of the expeditions, which are also clearly shown on the map - giving a bonus or in the case of Amundsen's route, a game victory. The gameplay, apart from the objective, is fairly standard. This means no bombardments, one-ways or killer neutrals - the map relies on a simple but solid gameplay concept. Details of the gameplay are being worked out and gameplay stamp shouldn't be too far away. The representation of impassables, gameplay clarity and similar issues are seen as the biggest obstacles, but Shakeycat seems determined to overcome them with the experience of one quenched map backing him up, and so far has been doing a good job at it. Central Asia: The struggle for oil Author(s): Raskholnikov & pamoa Map style: Conquest/Mixed Map size: Large Forum: Gameplay Development status: After Napoleonic Europe, Raskholnikov is making another attempt at an epic-scale map. This time, the graphical work is being done by pamoa, a veteran mapmaker with several succesful projects under his belt. As the name implies, this map features the Central Asia region, where the larger part of the world's oil resources lies. Fighting over these resources are various factions, and knowing Raskholnikov historical/geographical accuracy will be a large factor in gameplay design. Currently, the map is at the beginning of it's journey: larger gameplay decisions are being made, the theme being tuned up to match the CC model of strategy games. This map will not be one for the friends of plain-and-simple vanilla-maps, but for the hard core strategists who enjoy the more complex battlefields like Stalingrad. South Africa Author(s): Industrial Helix Map style: Standard Map size: Medium Forum: Graphics Development status: Industrial Helices next map has finally advanced to Graphics, and is undergoing a graphical overhaul - the style is being decided, graphical decisions being made, even unorthodox methods like watercolours are being explored. For those who haven't been following, the map features the state of South Africa in the late 19th century: a restless place of many conflicting cultures, imperialist colonies clashing with native cultures violently. This piece of history is cunnignly reflected in gameplay, with an interesting and unusual bonus structure. Mapmaker is looking for feedback and ideas on which graphical direction to pursue.
Map Spotlight show
Map spotlight: Thyseneal As Bison King's map is being featured on Map Spotlight this issue, I - natty_dread am exceptionally writing the article and interviewing TBK. When Thyseneal first appeared in the Foundry, I remember thinking "now there's something new": a map that was made entirely in watercolour. Of course, I had my doubts - how would such a technique fit in with the Foundry system? Well, Bison King proved my worries were for naught, as we can now see the map in beta testing, and eventually quenched. But, I'm going to let the man himself tell most of it.How was the idea of Thyseneal born? 1.Good question. When I was younger I used to draw up maps of fictitious places all the time. Sometimes for a story or game, other times just because I was bored. A lot of the shapes I would use started repeating themselves in different maps. After a while I started piecing together my favorite shapes into a map that looked a lot like the current Thyseneal. It wasn't till years later I made the Thyseneal you see today.Tell us about the world of Thyseneal. Unlike our world, Thyseneal is one large continent. On the other side of the planet there is nothing but a vast ocean twice the size of the pacific. I'd imagine that the civilizations on this continent would be more tangled in warfare, and desperate to grab land. There is no other continent to explore. They are trapped together, to share the land and resources they have. However as we all know it's too hard for people to just "get along" and it's hard to share, so wars of expansion are frequently fought in this land. To the east of the playable map is a dry savanna, inhabited by nomadic tribes. Most of the "civilized" nations developed around the inland sea, which produced favorable living, and growing conditions. The Western continent is by far the most arable and fertile. The Caprinthian Empire sits on thousands of miles of farmland. The Tytherian civilization was the first to develop, and is still the most powerful. It used to be much larger, however, over time it collapsed back down to it's current size. Since then the civilizations on the western continent, have grown very powerful using the Tytherian empire as their model on how to create and govern an empire. Much like the European states did years after the fall of Rome. How much background work was done to create the world? I sort of just make it up as I go along, but the farther along I go the more concrete things become in my head. You have used a very different technique to create the map. Tell us a bit about your work process. Well first I had a map of the world that I had just done for the hell of it. Later when I decided to make it a conquer club map, I first fashioned a rough draft on a transparent piece of paper we laid over the map. When the game play was figured out I drew out the map again one a large sheet of Arches 140lb watercolor paper. Using watercolors I painted the territories on there. The good thing about making a large map like that is that you then also have a real version of the map you can play at home. The bad thing is that you have to scan it in in chunks and piece the image back together in photoshop. The Sea and legend were done on different sheets of paper and added in later on the computer. After that it's all photoshop touch up.You obviously have lots of imagination to come up with a whole world for a map. Do you have a background in role-playing games, or fantasy literature? not especially... When I was younger I played a few role playing games but eventually swore them off forever. I don't think I've ever read a fantasy book in my life. Rest assured though I have my share of nerdy vices and I definitely appreciate it when a fantasy story takes the time to develop it's culture. How has the Foundry treated you; what is your opinion of the Foundry process? Certain people have treated me really well, and others have been really supportive. There were a lot of points where I didn't know what I was doing and everyone was really good about showing me what to do. As for the process, I found it a little bit difficult to get used to. I like to work at a much faster pace than the foundry so when things aren't moving along quickly I get antsy and impatient. I also feel like there's a lot of over analyzing. I understand why it is done, because you don't want just every map moving through at lightning speeds, saturating the site with mediocre maps. However I think that after a while the nit-picking can get a little extraneous. Over all though, I feel like it's a pretty successful process, once you know what you are doing. Are you going to keep making maps in watercolour or will you be exploring other methods in the future? Yeah I'm going to keep working with water color, and develop a real sense of style. I want someone to be able to look at one of my maps and be able to tell that it's a Bison King map.Is there anything else you would like to share about the map? Well, do you think this is anything people want to read about? [ed.note: notes about the nations of the world of Thyseneal. ] Ifnal- Swampy and moorish, is a little behind the times. It is a collective of independent kingdoms that pledge a loose allegiance to a common king. It is largely isolated. Arleus, Chancella, Azuran- Idependant kingdoms, that aren't especially powerful or influential. Caprinthia- Sits on a large and fertile plain. It is large, wealthy, and very powerful. although ruled by an all powerful Emperor, it is split up into many small provinces that used to be independent kingdoms, but are now ruled by noblemen. It's only true bane is the fact that it has an unimpressive navy due to it's small coastline. Morovia- the hot and dry region of the southern part of the continent. Ruled by a king, with less than supreme authority, who dives out control of the smaller regions to various Dukes and Lords. Jenua, Alus, and Ilannia are separate countries, and cultures but have been conquered by the Morovians at this point. Livonia- Most of the population lives on the southern peninsula while the upper peninsula remains largely woodlands. Ruled by a King from the grand peacetime capital of Illarulia (a walled city that sits on and Island on a canal) the capital moves to the peninsula on the Rowamar territory during war time. It has a powerful navy. Solonabirsk- Cold and shitty. Lots of peasants. Most of the population is in the extreme south or along the coastline. Most of the land up north is just for show. Skyatica- A feudal society ruled by a king and many lords. It has a unique culture. Most of the population and cities are in the peninsula. the northern inland area's have been recently added to the empire. The various indigenous cultures of those regions were easily conquered and subjugated. Itherania- Itheria, Theraland and Sarle all share the same cultural roots, and were once part of he same ancient empire. Since that empires collapse they have become separate kingdoms. The Desert States- The cross roads of the continent this area is home to much trading. Cancallus is weak with no real military presence. It is ruled by a tribal council. Narula is high up in the mountains and has a unique culture and religion. It is ruled by Monks. Tuskaroja is the most powerful nation in the block and the only nation with a formidable army. Iskul has no military but is an influential mercantile state. Tytheria- has a large population with many diverse cultures. It is ruled by an all powerful Emperor, whose right is to expand the empire as he sees fit. In fact any Emperor who fails to expand the empire is generally viewed as a bad emperor. It is also the naval authority.
Inside the Foundry History 101: Fantasy show
History 101: Fantasy When it comes to novels, movies, music, and games Fantasy is defined as a genre that uses magic and other supernatural phenomena as a primary element of plot, theme, and/or setting. May of which take place in fictional worlds where magic is common. In popular culture, the genre of fantasy is dominated by its medievalist form. In its broadest sense however, fantasy comprises works by many writers, artists, filmmakers, and musicians, from ancient myths and legends to many recent works embraced by a wide audience today.āThe gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing positive knowledge.ā -- Albert Einstein
The identifying traits of fantasy are the inclusion of fantastic elements in a self-coherent setting, where inspiration from mythology and folklore remains a consistent theme. Within such a structure, any location of the fantastical element is possible: it may be hidden in, or leak into the apparently real world setting, it may draw the characters into a world with such elements, or it may occur entirely in a fantasy world setting, where such elements are part of the world. Beginning perhaps with the Epic of Gilgamesh and the earliest written documents known to humankind, mythic and other elements that would eventually come to define fantasy and its various sub-genres have been a part of some of the grandest and most celebrated works of literature. From The Odyssey to Beowulf, from the Mahabharata to The Book of One Thousand and One Nights, from the Ramayana to the Journey to the West, and from the Arthurian legend and medieval romance to the epic poetry of the Divine Comedy, fantastical adventures featuring brave heroes and heroines, deadly monsters, and secret arcane realms have inspired many audiences. In this sense, the history of fantasy and the history of literature are inextricably intertwined.āI like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.ā -- Dr. Seuss
Fantasy is a popular genre, having found a home for itself in almost every medium. While fantasy art and recently fantasy films have been increasingly popular, it is fantasy literature which has always been the genre's primary medium. Fantasy role-playing games cross several different media. The "pen & paper" role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons was the first and is the most successful and influential, and the science fantasy role-playing game series Final Fantasy has been an icon of the console RPG genre.āFantasy is an exercise bicycle for the mind. It might not take you anywhere, but it tones up the muscles that can. Of course, I could be wrong.ā -- Terry Pratchett
Conquering Fantasy When it comes to Fantasy themed maps Conquer Club has several that shine. From a series that takes you on a trip through the ages. To the lava filled caverns deep beneath the earth where monsters lurk and powerful wizards do battle. To a struggle for control of a dark and musty dungeon. To the struggle for a tolkienesque land. These maps arenāt just a battlefield for you to conquer. They tell a story and invite you to experience the fantasy as part of the action.Age of Realms 1 In a place of fantasy in a time of uncertainty 6 nobles fight for supremacy. Like true leaders they must not only prove their strength in battle but also their wisdom in ruling their kingdom. Without the support of peasant villages and the income from trading resources even the most skillful warrior is worthless. So annex villages and supply them with goods and you shall be the next king. Remember a leader without followers is nothing. Age of Realms 2 The battle for uniting the lands raged on for years and when it was finally over only the fools thought all will be well. The desecration of the sanctuary has brought upon the land a terrible frost spell. Many have died and many more will die unless the spell is broken. And the only way to do it is to go back in the isle of Remora and destroy the sanctuary. Only then the spell will be broken. Age of Realms 3 First there was a kingdom torn by war. 6 realms battled for supremacy but they trespassed the sanctuary and unleashed a terrible curse. All land was frozen. Terrible ice storms ravaged the land but the humans survived and they kept fighting to unite the kingdom and to end the spell. They managed to break the spell but at a terrible cost. A magical portal opened and horrific creatures spew out of it. Golems orcs dwarves elves and liches invaded the land and forced the humans to a hasty retreat in Aoria, the safe haven of humanity. Now each race has a domain and each wants total annihilation of the others. So the war rages on even more than before. Each race is unique and has a special trait that affect them and their homeland. Each race has 2 power runes from which they gather their strength. The objective is only one. Kill or be killed. Monsters! Battle For The Powerstones As a honored wizard you have volunteered to explore the Caverns of Power and retrieve the legendary Powerstones. This wonāt be easy as vicious monsters guard the stones and each kingdom is sending their own wizard. As if that wasnāt enough something in the cavern seems to have weakened all of your powers. Lucky for you that some of the monsters are vulnerable to your Mind Control. Draknor - Level 1 The Dungeon of Draknor-The Halls of Testing is the first level of three, for this map series. Due to the fact that every door is a one way border, the way a player defends and attacks neighboring bonus areas is much trickier than on a standard two way border map. Dawn of Ages Orcs, Humans, Elves, and Dwarves struggle for control of this tolkienesque land influenced by Mongolic, Sumerian, Egyptian and Scandinavian mythology. CLICK HERE TO SEARCH FOR A GAME
Who's who in the Foundry? show
Who's who in the foundry? We made a small survey for the mapmakers currently working on maps in the Foundry. I tried to include everyone who has a map in gameplay workshop or up. Apologies if I left out anyone, there were lots of names, if you are a current mapmaker but don't see your name here, contact me and we can add you in the next article. So, we gave a few questions to mapmakers, and several of them replied. Those who are listed here only with their name and current map projects. So, without any further ado, I present you - the Mapmakers:Questions asked from mapmakers: 1. Tell us briefly about yourself, who are you and what do you do? 2. What got you interested in mapmaking? 3. What are your future goals in the Foundry?dolomite13 - The conquer 500, Monsters1. I am a senior software engineer dedicated to web development for a fortune 500 company. I live in the Greater Seattle area and spend much of my time eating sushi, drinking the wonderful wines of the great northwest, and adoring my wonderful fiancee.2. I have been involved in the pen & paper rpg, board game, and video game industry for many years. When I play a game I start to think about how I could tweak it in some way. When I saw the chance to create a map I decided to go for it. And now two years later my first map is nearing the end of its beta cycle.3. I am currently working on one map "The Conquer 500" and have a few ideas kicking around including a sequel to "Monsters!" that I hope to start working on once soon. I am a member of the Map Surveyors group that looks at maps at various stages in development and offers opinions. And I am a reporter for this very newsletter. I hope to keep contributing to the foundry for a long time to come.Industrial Helix - South africa, Russian revolution, Gallipoli, German/Italian unification1. I am a recent graduate student in the field of War and Society (aka Military History) where I wrote my thesis on the impact of cultural perceptions of China in Britain during the Opium Wars. As I am currently searching for relevant employment my current occupation is waiting tables at a Thai Restaurant with prospects of a phd on the horizon. As for hobbies I dabble in art with a recent interest in painting, both watercolors and oil. I started to teach myself French last year and that entertains me when nothing is going on in the foundry.2. As I imagine it happens to most players, I had been playing CC for a short time and had a really good idea for a map. So I looked up the process and followed a few maps as they progressed through the foundry. Since I believed myself reasonably capable with photoshop and inspired by a good idea I submitted my first map (japan) to the then called drafting room. That failed and 13 Colonies took wing, since then its been a habitual process of looking at wars and old empires and deciding if I'd like to conquer that on CC.3. Ultimately, I'd like to see more ideas from people without graphical skill and a way for them to see their ideas turn into maps. So really, just more community participation. I'd also like for things to speed up a bit and the best way I can think to do this is to keep communicating with mapmakers and giving positive encouragement. It can be tough though as sometimes a map is difficult to keep up with. My personal goals are to add more historical maps and cover some of the forgotten empires and battles past and hopefully break some of the Eurocentrism (that I somewhat contribute to as well with the unification maps). There's a whole world of history out there and I think CC is a great way to engage history fans and teach them a little as well.MarshalNey - Zombie Invasion1. A 34-year-old native Missourian, I'm a graduate student moonlighting as a substitute teacher. Intensely interested in history, political science and philosophy. I travel frequently to tend to the important people in my life. As hobbies, I dabble in sketch art, computer programming, theater, RPGs and whatever else gives me a chance for creative endeavor.2. A friend of mine once told me that I debated every topic as if my life depended upon it. He didn't mean it as a compliment- it is a flaw that I strive to control- but it did infect the way that I viewed some of the CC maps. I desperately wanted to comment, but the topics seemed to go on forever and I was quickly lost in the back-and-forth filled with abbreviated jargon. In the end it didn't seem worth the effort. Then I read an article in the CC newsletter by natty_dread that talked about the Melting Pot. He said that all ideas were welcome here, that indeed newcomers with anything to say were in high demand. That pushed me to make my first post, and since then I've been babbling incessantly. One of my first posts was on a map about zombies by Top Dog. He PMed me later; eventually I asked if I could post a map draft I'd created using some of his ideas... and the rest, as they say, is history.3. Keep the Zombie Invasion map moving forward. It will be a challenge with the start of the school semester. I have strong ideas for some more detailed historical battle maps- I'm already working on an American Civil War map set in the Melting Pot that I currently call Secesh Heresy. Other than that, my biggest goal is to make the Foundry atmosphere more inviting to the community... there are some really creative, really smart and warm people in the Foundry that deserve more community feedback on their efforts.kabanellas - King's Court, Clandemonium, Napoleonic Europe1. I'm a 35 years old Architect and designer, living in Porto (the second largest city in Portugal). I love to play music, to read, and I'm a fan of gastronomy (good wine and good cooking, though I'm not getting overweight )........... I'm terrible speaking about myself and I always get stuck, like I'm getting now.2. I just love to create and design, and I'm totally into strategy games (including Risk). Mix it all up and you get the perfect combination that will impel you to go berserk and start creating maps like there's no tomorrow 3. Well... too achieve the 100 maps goal while I'm living and win that super-sexy-golden-statue that hasn't been invented yet The Bison King - Thyseneal, Celtic nations1. I'm a native Ohioan who has lived in both Columbus and Cincinnati. I'm a freelanced artist and animator. I'm a die hard traditionalist who prefers to work with pencil and paper. You can see examples of my work here:http://artbistro.monster.com/member/The ... ing/albums an here:http://www.vimeo.com/user4021179/videos 2. I've always been interested in maps, and I've been sketching them ever since middle school. Some friends of mine and I had this game back in the day called MEK world. Basically a self made RPG with waring armies. I designed the map, but honestly it was pretty lame. It looked like a donut with a dick attached to it. Kind of like if Spain had a big lake in the middle of it and Florida floated over and attached itself. I'm much happier with the maps I have made since then.3. I'm looking forward to the nearing release of what will be my first map, Thyseneal. I have another map in production as well, the Celtic 7 nations. I have a few other idea's floating around like a much needed Colonial Africa map, and California. My friend was also tossing around the idea of a Viking Invasion map. I would help him with the graphics, if he goes through with it.Rih0 - Peru1. Man, I'm 14. Brazilian, student.2. Actually, I do mapmaking because I see on it a chance to improve my photoshop skills, and since I'm a player, I think it would be good to play a map made by myself.3. Well...actually, a goal on the foundry would be to finish a map. I mean, i haven't passed further than gameplay workshop yet, but I believe that with some work I can do it. I also have many islands projects, such as my mediterranean isles pack, but i haven't submited yet, even due to the foundry limit.theBastard - Baltic Crusades1. hm, what can I say, everything could sounds as self-praise IĀ“m interesting in history, military, a little in politics (but it is still about the same but one time in blue and second time in red), engage in sports. I have girlfriend, small coffeshop and small dog 2. release my ideas, few historical (medieval - my favourite era) maps in CC, bring new ideas.3. gain new copy of Photoshop at the first and finish my maps. more historic maps and help to other historic maps with my knowledge. support new xml possibilities...isaiah40 - Exodus, Lunar war1. I yam what I yam while being a cook!2. I just decided to give it a try one day and now we have Fractured America.3. Well now, I really haven't thought about it too much other than wanting to contribute a few more maps. Right now I am working on Exodus which I am hoping to turn into a map series about Israel from the time they made their exodus from Egypt to modern day, a total of about 7 maps.natty_dread - Orient express, Lunar war1. I'm a 28 year old guy from Finland. One could say I'm a jack of all trades, master of none... I've studied art, carpentry, automechanics... worked in various fields from offset printing to being a street musician. My hobbies include guitar playing, being a general smartass on the interwebs, drawing, swimming... I also started learning C# programming recently. I have a girlfriend (possibly soon to be wife) and a pet hamster, both are cute.2. I stumbled in the Foundry and noticed people were making maps there. Initially, I wanted to make a map to get the free premium, so I started to make one - although along the way my motivations changed, as I decided to just buy the damn premium, but by then I had found mapmaking to be fun so I kept at it. My first attempt was a map of a protein molecule (I've always been fascinated with biochemistry.) That map didn't succeed: although it definitely had some fans, it didn't gather enough support in the end. By then I had started another map project, the Nordic Countries, which is already quenched. In the process I learned tons about computer graphics, and I still keep learning - which is a large part of the appeal of mapmaking to me; I like challenging myself.3. Currently, I want to finish my current maps - Lunar war which is a co-project with Isaiah40, and Orient Express which is the first part of a map pack called Age of Steam. I'm also starting to work on another project, Antarctica, and the two other maps of the AOS map pack are waiting in queue. I'm going to keep mapmaking as long as it is fun and keeps challenging me, which will likely be for some while. My ultimate goal is to break cairnswk's 25 map record, some day... DubWarrior - Flanders1. I'm DubWarrior, 23 and living in Belgium. I'm an illustrator and graphic designer. I play CC for a year and my first map for CC is Flanders 13022. well, almost everything. I liked the idea of customizing a game with your own map. I like working with graphics and I like games, so it look like a perfect combination, no? It was fun to get everybody enthusiast for the idea and to make a nice graphic for a historic map. So, sort of a challenge.3. definitely making more maps. I have already some ideas, so check melting pot topic soon pamoa - Central asia1. Swiss architect 42 married with a newborn child2. 1st correcting French map then pleasure of it3. nice graphics and rather complex gameplayEvil DIMwit - Baseball1. I'm 20 years old; I'm Israeli-American; I study computer science at the University of Pennsylvania.2. Well, I've always been interested in game design for some reason. The Foundry's a convenient creative outlet for that sort of thing.3. No long-term goals. If I get an idea for a map that I really like, I'll start developing it. That said, I do have a couple of map ideas that are waiting on various XML updates before I can continue them.ender516 - Thyseneal, Napoleonic europe, Celtic nations (XML)1. In real life, I am a software designer.2. I liked the idea of creating new variations on the basic game played here, and when I first started, there was a shortage of people willing and able to produce the XML needed to turn an image into a functioning map. So I thought I could put my programming skills to good use. Sadly for me, my days in the sun are fading with the dawn of the Map XML Wizard.3. I hope to come up with a map of my own, but my graphical skills are undeveloped, and my ideas don't seem to draw too much attention. Still, I will persevere.paulk - The Cube1. I'm a freelance webmaster, father and husband. I sit in front of the computer most of my time, so CC is a form of escape from my ordinary tasks. Plus it jogs my mind 2. I got interested in map making because I looked through all maps trying to find an easy playing map without tons of rules, with many small bonuses and with fast gameplay, but did not find any fitting what I looked for. So I created my own map, the first and smaller 3*3*3 version of the CUBE, complete with XML. The majority wanted something bigger, so the current 4*4*4 CUBE emerged, with all it's complications. And on that way it has been, since 2007.3. Future goals would be to get the 3*3*3 version of the CUBE approved. Other than that I don't know. I have a few ideas.Mapmakers who didn't answer the survey: thenobodies80 - CyprusMrBenn - Mexico, New Asiainitus - Volatile earthCoolC - Scandinaviatisha - First nations South Americajleonnn - Guatemalacairnswk - Stalingrad, Cricket, Das SchlossRaskholnikov - Napoleonic Europe, Central asia, Battle for godpremier2k - AtlantisNemesischild - Atlantisblitzaholic - Clandemoniumporkenbeans - Battle for god, Siege 2Chipv - King's CourtRedBaron0 - Philadelphia

jpcloet announced the arrival of
Clan Gaming Privileges . Anyone who has organised a tournament knows how easy it is to set up games with this tool; anyone who has tried to track clan events without tourney-style labels will also appreciate its usefulness. Well done to the clan directors who have been campaigning for this for a long time. We hope this will encourage more clan games, and more formal recognition of those games - medals next?

Devils' Delight Devils Brigade managed to secure their 3rd win in 4 challenges and as usual for DB it was a close challenge throughout. All of their previous challnges have been decided by 1 or 2 games and this one was no different. They looked to have a rather more comfortable win at the half-way stage as they led 13-7 but SoW managed to win the second batch to set up a close finish. Devils Brigade leader shaneback had this to say on the challenge:shaneback wrote: Its been a hard fought challenge from start to finish. The Soldiers of War are a group of classy players who definitely bring it. They exhibited great teamwork and versatility by playing well on both the home and away maps. It has been an enjoyable challenge so far. There are a couple games still active but it appears we are going to walk away with the close win 22-18. We just added 5 new members in the last couple months, so it was nice to get them into the action and have them contribute to the win. We are still working out the details for our next challenge which will be starting soon.
Soldiers of War are also ready to step right back into action already lining up their next opponent in the form of Empire. They certainly will have their work cut out for them against one of the top clans on the site but they are well aware of what lies ahead and are hoping to learn from the experience.Devils Brigade 22-18 Soldiers of War Furious FOED The Fraternal Order of Exceptional Drinkers is taking two deep glugs from the Pint of war as it marches in the month of August into two challenges, against the clans of Nemesis and AoC Results at this time stand at 3-5 against AoC and Nil All against Nemesis. Itās tough being number one. Fancy a stroll round Charleston? Someone will be waiting in the bushes to jump out at you. Want to add New York to your string of tourney titles? Thereās bound to be a gang of muggers lurking in the metro. Those are just friendly games: imagine the pressure when it comes to clan competitions. There is no such thing as an easy match when everyone wants your head. Every opponent will be doing their damnedest to upend you into the nearest ditch and make off with your crown of laurels. The Horsemen Of The Apocalypse have gone through that for years and with ten victories to their name, including victories over a string of their nearest rivals, they remain undefeated. Thatās some record. Streets ahead of any other clan. Thereās a reason the ponies trot with a swagger. Incandenza , blitzaholic , comic boy , hatchman , Big Whiskey ... these are names that conjure magic, names that mothers use to frighten naughty children who will not go to bed. And thatās just a few of the current stalwarts, with no mention of the illustrious THOTA players of times gone by or the recruits who are currently building their reputations under THOTA colours. Surely sometime the pressure must get to these guys? Surely the slow drain of talent as some of their leading lights retire will undermine them? Sometime the spread of skills as more and more top players concentrate on teamgames will raise another clan to their level? Surely the increased complexity of clan competition with intense tactics played across more and more maps and settings will be too much for one clan to keep on top of? Even if none of these things happen, surely the pure law of averages in a luck based games means that sometime they will get enough bad rolls, weak drops or unlucky spoils that they will come out on the losing end of a tight battle? Is that time about to be upon us? THOTAās comeback against The Spanking Monkeys in the big challenge of the early part of this year confirmed their strength. But they have wobbled this year in a way weāre not accustomed to seeing. They did not show in the League at all, not even making the playoffs. In the last round of the Cup, they only just survived a rush from Nemesis that few were expecting ā the series level at the end of normal time, it took the tie-breaker to pull THOTA through. Nemesis put a serious dent in the aura of invincibility that has surrounded THOTA for so long. The ponies are not as firmly the favourites for the final rounds of the Cup as they were when it began and they were seeded number one by their peers. For once, too, THOTA cannot claim they are more exhausted than their opponents ā this time they face a clan who must be as battle-weary as themselves. Legends of War, seeded 5th for the Cup, have been through a reorg and a recruitment drive, have fought their way through increasingly intense competition to the title of League champions, have defeated Immortal Assassins in the Cup ā no wonder their players were calling out for a break before the Cup semis began. But the rejuvenation that the end of summer traditionally brings to CC is in evidence for both THOTA and LoW as they swap the first games of their challenge and exchange pleasantries of a much kinder nature than some clans in the recent past. Both sides are really looking forward to this challenge. For many in these clans itās a reprise of the great battle they fought out in the early summer of last year. That time THOTA emerged triumphant ā they led from the beginning but LoW brought the gap down to a modest 32-28 by the finish. THOTA acknowledge that as one of the toughest wars they have fought, and both sides hailed the intensity of the games and the fine spirit in which they were played. If this challenge is anywhere near as good as that one was, players and watchers alike are in for some fun. Maybe whether the outcome will be the same as last year depends less on THOTA than it does on LoW. The Legends have lost a lot of good players in the intervening year, but paradoxically their results have become stronger. Maybe some of their best have matured as players, maybe a tightened roster has allowed them to come together better as a team. Maybe they really are playing better than a year ago. If the semi we previewed last issue (C.C. TOFU vs KoRT [0-1 of 60] is a clash between the best of the up-and-coming teams, this semi is a joust between the aristocrats of the old regime. As of today, THOTA are widely recognised as the best clan on the site. Many have tried and failed to change that ā can LoW be the clan who will unseat them? C.C. Semis THOTA vs. LoW [1-0] Round 1
How Clans Work by Dai_atan (Legion) show
Last month my home clan, ++The Legion++, did something amazing, it experienced the glory of democracy! We elected a new council, established the official role of Leader and held a bucket load of referendums. This is an annual system of ensuring prosperity in our clan and ensuring things run efficiently. All of this got me wondering, how do other clans work? and how would you describe these systems in real world political terms? Here are the standard formats that I have found clans follow:ABSOLUTE MONARCHY! Some clans run under a system where the leader (usually the founder) has absolute deciding power over every decision, the title of leader is inherited via the old leader passing on power to a new absolute monarch.Limited Monarchy Others may practice an inherited leadership system like this except some power is distributed to a council/privileged sect of the clan that may limit the powers of the leader.Faux Parliamentary Another style seen in clans is where a council/privileged sect clan members directly elect their leadership. this is Faux Parliamentary instead of standard parliamentary because the council/privileged members are not elected by the clan at large.Presidential The Presidential system is one of a democratic vote by the clan at large to elect a single leader and/or council that will run the clan for a specified term. It does not require a set leader as the name would suggest, merely a general election from inside the clan.Direct Democracy Some clans see the leadership as merely facilitators for popular opinion. In these clans the clan at large will decide what happens inside the clan on any single decision. Anarchy Some clans are just a shell for members to do what ever they want, any given member of an anarchist clan can set up events, declare wars and generally get involved, they may put things to vote but it is not essential to the running of the clan. An anarchist clan tends to focus on subgroups inside of the clan that tend to play together. I'll finish this article by asking you this: How does your clan work? does it differ from the above styles of clan government? what do you like about the way your clan is run? A special thanks to the.killing.44 of LoW and SirSebstar of De Veroveraars der Lage Landen whose interviews helped put this article together.

I don't understand way its been a pirate and ninja party, what do ninja's have to do with pirates? No one has been able to explain it to me. Maybe its that ninja's are silent and pirates are raucous, opposites attract? One of the many mystery's of the universe. My head hurts from attempting to think, so I'm going to refill my tankard of rum and plan my costume. Mental note, something which parrot shit doesn't show on, easy to wash, easy access to essentials. Maybe I'll ask BrucesWar whether I can borrow his dress......
