The Case of the Missing Colors Reports are coming in that somebody has apparently erased the color from countries and cities all around the world. Apparently, situations on the ground are completely different from what's seen on maps. From the red that appears to be gone from Berlin, to the blue that is no longer in East Anglia, someone has apparently tampered with the colors all over the world. Certain regions seem to have been unaffected by this, The view of the Sahara in Mali still appears quite yellow. Also, the UN delegates from Atlantis, Midgard, and Tamriel have not declared anything amiss in their countries. Scientists are baffled by this apparent lack of color in many parts of the known world, could the mapmakers and cartographers really be wrong? Additionally, the borders of states and nations appear to have vanished as well, leading to some confusion over where Spain ended and France began. Island nations like the United Kingdom have long assumed that the high concentration of salt in the surrounding waterways had a corrosive effect on their labels, but landlocked and larger countries have had a hard time explaining why their land does not match what is being portrayed on maps. Some conspiracy theorists have argued that maps color do not truly represent the actual conditions. They point to the numerous failed attempts to locate the Arda Wormhole in Space and the fact that Alcatraz is a thriving tourist attraction that has several ways out. However, the established scientific community have argued that the map for Antarctica correctly shows the different territories in differing shades of blue and white. Further support for the established viewpoint is derived from the Parade Deck of the Citadel indeed being green from all the grass. The debate will surely continue as INTERPOL pledges to step up investigations into who changed the layout of countries all over the world. Top suspects include Carmen Sandiego, Raptor Jesus, and Lex Luthor. They are believed to be operating out of a secret underground base in Kamchatka, which nobody has successfully discovered, despite large scale search efforts in Eastern Asia.
The Scum Insider by safariguy5, nagerous and Fircoal show
The Scum Insider Newbie Help Want to get into the Mafia scene, but don't know how to play or even what it is? Consult these threads: Mafia Information , Mafia and You , and Rules and Terms of Mafia . Too much work? Too lazy to read through everything? No worries, you can always jump right into a game and ask for other players or the game runner to help guide you. What is "Mafia"? Mafia, for those of you that don't know, is a game that generally takes place in a town, where the townspeople have to determine who the mafia (or "scum") is and lynch them via a majority vote during the day and the mafia try to kill everyone at night and bluff their way out of getting killed by the town.Mafia News The mafia forum is always looking for new players. However, the learning curve can be a bit steep, so many people are a bit intimidated by all the jargon and game mechanics. To help attract new players, rdsrds2120 has started creating fun RT mafia games in Live Chat. The games are played in a "Mafia" tab, /join Mafia to enter the room. It's a good way to learn the basics of the game and get a feel for how the forum version of the game will operate. Games are small, usually between 5-9 players, and finish within about half an hour. New players like God Emperor Q , grifftron , MoB Deadly and slowreactor have gone on to participate in the forum games. Come check out the fun sometime!Mafia Callouts Calling all players interested! Some mafia games need some filling: Sign-ups: Seeking Replacements: Now get out there and investigate Mafia for yourself: viewforum.php?f=213 Advanced Roles and Strategy by safariguy5 We're looking into the mind of the Serial Killer this week. Fava beans and Chianti optional. The Serial Killer What is it? The Serial Killer is a Third Party character who wins when he is the last remaining player. He has a night kill every night, and generally cannot skip a night kill attempt. Because this is a difficult role to win with, many mods will have the SKer show up as innocent under investigation or give him a one-shot bulletproof ability. If the game comes down to only 1 mafia member and 1 Serial Killer, the game usually draws.Example John is the Serial Killer. Kathy investigates him at night. He comes up as innocent . John kills Tom the same night. Tom dies the next day unless John is roleblocked or Tom is saved or busdriven. How to Play this Roles Serial Killers are very difficult to play due to the necessity of surviving until the endgame. Appear too helpful to town, and mafia may target the SKer for a night kill. Appear too scummy and town may try to lynch the SKer. The trick is to try to establish a balance of presenting cases that have some merit but will not generate a lot of attention. Especially towards midgame, suggest good secondary lynch targets and use some evidence to justify the claims. Try not to kill the people you suggest cases on as it may draw attention to yourself later on if people find a pattern. If forced to claim, a Town Vigilante claim is usually the preferred fakeclaim due to the similarity of the roles, but a larger game with an actual Vigilante present may prove problematic. In games where there are cults, the Serial Killer is usually immune to investigation, but may want to try and keep cult numbers down to prevent a cult lynch of the SKer later on.
show: Interrogation of Phatscotty
Q. Hi Phatscotty! BOOM! Q. Three words to describe your position in the political spectrum. Fiscal-responsibility, Self-defense, Liberty. Q. Who is Scotty, and why is he Phat? Back when pretty hot and tempting was "in, a girl I used to work with had a crush on me and drew a picture of me and named it Phatscotty. After she quit her friend and I started talking and then she began calling me Phatscotty, and it kinda stuck. I made it my screen name in the late 90's and there aren't any other Phatscotty's and I have a reputation to hold up and bets to collect on (Aol Chatroom - Investing 1999-2003) And it's better than Scott2Hottie JTHUMPE WHERE ARE YOU? I WILL FIND YOU AND YOU WILL ADMIT I WAS RIGHT!Q. One thing I have been thinking a lot about is why on earth gun-nuts want everybody to own guns? I mean if I owned guns already (most gun-nuts do) why would I be interested in more people having guns? How could that possibly benefit me? I'm not a gun nut, I just believe in the Second Amendment. I believe if more people were armed, less criminals would be able to initiate force against victims of violent crime. That reality would also penetrate the criminal psyche. Criminals are already carrying guns, and it's just a fact that you can't carry a police officer around with you. As for the benefit, I will speak for myself, but when I go to events like a gun show or a political rally, I feel extremely safe. For the record I am in favor of strict enforcement of legal gun sales, and I think the punishment for illegal firearm purchases as well as illegal possession should be much harsher. Q. Describe in 3 words your feelings about the Tea Party Death Squads. Paranoid Schizophrenia Q. In 25 words or less persuade me to buy gold. Don't. You missed the boat. However, it's also true there is hardly anywhere else safe to put your money nowadays. If you must, buy 1963 or older silver dimes, quarters, 50 cents pieces and silver dollars. Ebay is a great place to find those (Dimes are like 4$ now) Interesting how a dime from 1953 would get you a gallon of gas in 1953, and a dime from 1953 will still get you a gallon of gas today. no? Q. How does it feel having to follow up the greatest person of all-time? Like I can get away with demanding a VP spot on your presidential ticket! Q. WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? Just some dude who doesn't like his country going broke. Q. As a citizen of Minnesota, do you feel Paganism in Minnesota is an important enough topic to require its own Wikipedia entry? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paganism_in_Minnesota) Yes. There are some "interesting" people up here, and after I see them working behind the counter at my local Burger King, it would be cool if I could go to Wiki to find out wassup wit dat. Q. As a citizen of Minnesota, do you feel Minnesota is an important enough topic to require its own Wikipedia entry? Yes. Unfortunately the entry for Minnesota is overwhelmed by Jesse Ventura and Al Franken. Q. Wikipedia says the official bird of Minnesota is the Common Loon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_symb ... te_symbols). How many Common Loons do you know? I got to quickdraw against the guy who beat Al Franken at the state fair a few years back. That's the closest I got.Q. As a recent critic of Norway do you feel it's odd that you live in an ethnically Norwegian state? How many times have you eaten lutefisk in the last month? I have never tried lutefisk. I sounds gross. I do find it odd I was born here and have not moved South yet. I will though. Q. If I invited you to see Conan the Barbarian (2011) with Army of God and me when it releases this month, would you come? Also, would you go see it with us? I would come, and I would see it with you, so long as you promise to not cradle AOG's skull and close your eyes only to keep asking me what just happened every 5 minutes. Q. Do you think you present convincing arguments in the Off Topics forum? How many users do you think you've won over to your viewpoint? Yes. I don't know how many, but I like to think people just see both sides and they can make up their own minds on whatever issue. Q. Are you an ass or breast man? Ass all the way.Q. How many guns do you own? Nunya Q. When was the last time you met an Ace Rimmer? It's been about 8 years. She really liked rimming my ace, but I swear I never rimmed hers. Q. Do you invest your money, and if so, in what? A little. in what? Nunya! Q. If you were to run the Newsletter for one issue, and got to decide on all content that is to be put into the issue by the Dispatch's eager and willing writers and reporters, what would it look like? I am already good with numbers and seeing into the future so I found out I won a lot and tried a couple internet games of Wisk and fell in love and then I came across this site, which F'N owns!Q. Why is it that u only play feudal and kings court? Cuz I'm working on certain medals at the moment Q. Is it fair to say that corporatism (aka croney capitalism) is just as much to blame for the state of our bad economy as the unions and the welfare state? Absolutely. Q. Thanks for your time! I present you with an interview with sandman175, along with angola's update on the TPA season, and our regular look at tourneys currently in the sign-up stage. I hope you enjoy our little Tournament Section. In the immortal words of
Daryl van Horne , "little, yes, but powerful, potent, full of juice!"
Dukasaur on behalf of, jricart Tournament Executive Meet the Tournament Winners! by Dukasaur show: sandman175 interview
Sandman175 is a highly active tournament player, with nine tournament cups to his credit! One of these was for winning Jim's Tourney Series #1: Board Games , hosted by jimfinn . This tourney was first posted on February 06, 2011, and completed on May 30th. As the title might intimate, this tournament is part of a larger series, now at tourney twelve, based on quite a few different themes. The "Board Games" tourney used best-of-three 1v1 matchups on CC's three board game maps: Crossword, Chinese Checkers, and Conquer4.Hi Sandman! Jimfinn contacted me and recommended that I should interview you for the CC Dispatch about your win in the tournament. Are you up for it? Sure, why not?Okay, thank you! What attracted you to this particular tournament? Love the board games maps and 1v1 games.Ach! A man of few words, I see. If we're going to get to my 3 kilobyte minimum, I guess I'm going to have to do most of the talking. It's okay, I'm good at it... I did a quick MapRank on you, and not only do you love your board game maps, but you are also very good at them. You have a better than 50% win/loss ratio on all of them, as well as a better than 50% kill ratio. You've raked in +255 points on Chinese Checkers, +69 on Conquer4, and a very impressive +359 on Crossword. Why do you do so well at these? Before I found tournaments and joined One Step Ahead, I started lots of 1v1 games and those maps were favorites of mine at one time or another. I remember playing real Chinese Checkers often as a kid before I discovered Risk, apparently I should play board game maps more often. You're certainly good at them! What other maps do you like? And what are your favourite spoils and reinforcement settings? I like most of the maps. My current favorites are Monsters and Jamaica. My favorite spoils are flat: nothing beats a third round rainbow. Unlimited reinforcement is my favorite, but adjacent is the only setting that regularly makes me mad.Yeah I love flat rate spoils! Although, they're only really good on small to medium maps, no? Don't you find that on the large maps flat rate spoils soon become almost irrelevant once the big bonuses start coming in? Yeah, if you can't win quickly, flat rate can definitely lead to a stalemate -- that won't happen in an escalating game.So what are your priorities on CC now? I see you've got your highwater score listed in your signature: Personal Best, so far... Rank: Major Score: 2397 11/28/2010
What else? Chasing any medals? Any major tournies you're in? Having fun is my first priority on CC, if I'm not enjoying it then it is time to find a different hobby. Winning is a close second. It's always nice to update my best rank and score. Medals are nice too, a full set of gold ones would be sweet. I've mostly been going after tournament and clan medals recently. Big thanks to all the players who run the tournaments! Shout out to my clan One Step Ahead and all my other friends on CC! Thanks to Steve Jobs for SO much! Thanks to the people who keep CC running! Thank you Dukasaur! Everyone, good luck and have fun. Sounds good! Thank you for taking the time to speak to me, and best of luck in all your future endeavours.
TPA update by angola show: tpa update
TPA Year 1 continues on and sonicsteve has really run away with the title.sonicsteve is still in first with a whopping 48.23 points. MudPuppy is second with 42.32, while HighlanderAttack is third with 42.08. Thirty-one of the 52 weeks have been updated on the scoreboard, and it seems all but impossible that someone will chase down sonicsteve .TPA Year 2 is underway with one tournament already complete, two tournaments underway and two more in the sign-up stage.
Join This? Or Not! by Dukasaur (covering for sonicsteve) show: Join This Or Not
And now for our regular look at a selection of the tournaments in sign-ups: The big trend this summer has been big series. ViperOverLord 's Alpha Beta series has reached Alpha Beta 15 , showcasing the revamped Nordic Nations map. Greenoaks ' KISS series has reached #41 with KISS WWII Australia (although there still seem to be spots available in KISS #36 Age of Merchants -- if you are not intimidated by this difficult map then this might be the place for you!) Fuzzy316 's Fast and Furious series is up to Qualifier 11 while Kuma32478 's Grand Championship has added not one but four tournaments to the list this weekend: California ,City Mogul , Cyprus and OmahaBeach . With the the new TPA season underway, it's important to keep track of new events, especially Premier and Major events. The Major that is currently on the board accepting sign-ups is Lindax 's WCF Doubles II . This tourney has already been up for a week, so if you're serious about getting on the TPA scoreboard this year, grab a partner and get in there before it closes! My personal pick for most creative new tournament goes to perchorin for Sacred Vows of Silence . This is a tournament that addresses the traditional tendency of 3-player games to degenerate into diplomatic arguments. Its solution is simple: No diplomacy allowed! To prevent even a hint of diplomacy from sneaking in, no game chat of any kind is allowed. It is an 1800+ tourney, but if you meet that criterion, I think you might really enjoy this challenge. These are my picks, but if you don't like any of these go to the Tournaments Tab and take a look at the many others waiting to be filled. If you're craving tourney action now, check out the Requests for Immediate Players section of the tournament forum. You can be playing very quickly after signing up as a reserve.
Hey, folks! Sully here to bring you another edition of Cartographic Surveillance. thehippo8 briefs on beta maps, koontz1973 gives us the run down of maps in and out of the Foundry Workshops, and I've supplied an update on all things stamped. Also, in an effort to keep things consistent and more focused on maps in the works and whatnot, I plan on getting back to the roots a bit with consistent articles like Map Spotlights and Stampage Updates and I've "hired" a "consultant" to help out with article ideas and attempt to supply more of what the community wants.

What could be better than Beta? by thehippo8 show
There are all our old friends, smiling and twinkling at us from the Game Finder list. And snug on their tails are those Beta games. Does Beta mean better ... well the proof is in the pudding. And what treats we have in store! The Austro-Hungarian Empire Brought to you by that whizz of all foundry things thenobodies80 ...Click image to enlarge. This is one hummer of a fight between the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary – the former duopoly that made up the House of Hasburg. It is 1914 and just 4 years before the fall of that great institution – doomed to obliteration by the machinations of the First World War. Or in this case by the staunch protagonists of the CC community. Live your version of history by conquering this accurate map and gain even more control by taking the thrones. Get both and not only do you own the House of Hasburg but you win the game (objective). Most recent changes were on 3 September 2011 and quite frankly this looks complete to me! There have been 1302 games played since this map went Beta.Baseball: King of Diamonds Another couple of foundry heavyweights Evil DIMwit and Natty_Dread bring gameplay in every sense of the term ...Click image to enlarge. Pitch your way into this game and conquer the field. Last update was 30 August 2011 and after 45 pages of hefty work, the results are astounding. Most populous and third largest state. Get your conquering spirit out and take over land and cities alike. Most recent update on 24 August 2011 and Beta the next day. Already 741 games played and the comments are rolling in. A futuristic drama brought about by economic chaos, civil unrest and war made all the more complex by invasion by other countries. No, this is not a repeat of the Opium Wars but an all new creation just for the CC community. A whirlwind flurry through the foundry (9 months no less) was not itself without controversy but here it is ready to play. Mind you, there has been a power of effort in the 35 page forum. Already 308 games and counting.Nordic Countries Can you believe it? Natty_Dread has another offering in this group ...Click image to enlarge. Without putting down the other offerings in this group, I really love this map. It is well thought out and plays really well. Moreover, it is one of the three games that make up the Journeys of Discovery – 8; Erik the Red tournament. Last updated on 2 August 2011, after 62 pages in the forum, and can you believe it but Natty_Dread is now working on improving the graphics more in a separate forum – itself already at 13 pages! This map is already soaring with 5769 games already played!Three Kingdons of Korea Well if it wasn’t enough to have two offerings, the frenetic Natty_Dread gives us a third, this time teamed up with the inimitable Industrial Helix ...Click image to enlarge. And if you thought Fractured China was hurtling through the foundry quickly, this map is stratospheric! This is a complex and strategic map with clever play required. The last update went live on 22 August 2011 and current discussion is around the image itself. Gameplay seems great from what I have read of the debate. And with 1207 games already played, it is set to bed in for sure.Six of the best, where are the rest? There are so many great ideas coming through the foundry now that I’m sure that these Beta maps will be met by others very soon. For myself, I really enjoy the random game option and its fantastic when you are confronted by something that is fresh and new. I’m not saying that Beta is better than those maps which have become final, but Beta maps make CC better!
Realism or Fiction koontz1973 show
All maps come from somewhere. Either a real place, time or completely from the map makers imagination. The stories that are weaved into every map can make for some great games. Realism in Time. Lots of maps are set in the past. The past is easy as we all did history in school, learning about Romans (Circus Maximus), Cleopatra (Battle Of Actium) or the colonisation of America by the European powers (New World). All these maps have one thing in common, history. Bringing history to a game might seem like a dry subject (how many of us have looked out of a classroom window during a boring lecture on a sunny day) but these maps all bring unique games and lots of fun.Circus Maximus. The blood thirsty Romans are hard at it, chasing each other round a collasium. Hacking away at your opponents with swords or whips instead of bullets and bombs. The really fun feature about this map is that you can only go one way. Forward. Maps have to come some somewhere, these following three have come completely from the imagination of the mapmakers. But they all come with a back story told by the mapmakers themselves. After reading some of them, I have my doubts about there sanity. Dungeon of Draknor - The Halls of Testing. WidowMakers wrote: Accompanying Story: Your sword has had quite a workout today, mowing down the undead minions summoned by the evil sorcerer Draknor to guard his fortress. According to Belegruin, your closest friend and an expert spellcaster, this is the last room before you reach Draknor's lair. While little Garrick -- hired against your better judgement for his quick reflexes and nimble fingers -- checks the final door for traps, you sit back to rest and let the party's healer tend to your wounds. "Hold it!" shouts Garrick, "It's a trap!" "Then disable it and pick the lock," you answer wearily. "That's what you're here for." "No, it's not on the door. It's the whole room. Look at the floor!" All of you look down. The floor tiles are covered with strange sigils. They mean nothing to you, but Belegruin clearly recognizes them. "The munchkin is right," he says. "This is a teleportation circle with glyphs of warding around the edges... we're trapped here. This enchantment is too powerful for me to break." Just then, a deep, maniacal laughter echoes through the chamber. "You thought you might defeat me, adventurers? I am Draknor, the greatest wizard who ever lived! But it came as no surprise at the top two being of the Americas and New York (I wonder why ). Crosswords appeal may be limited but it is a map that offers great play over a small board. No matter what the visuals, game play has to come first and as players you have a huge choice on what to play. New World gives starting positions and a field of neutrals to fight through while the rest give classic style game play. Leehar Clan Executive Conqueror's Cup 2--Final Four Preview by alt1978 (PR) show
The Final Four of the Greatest Show in CC If there is any doubt about the magnitude of the Conquer's Cup, briefly scroll through the list of players taking part. No other tournament or event on the site pits the caliber of players you will see dueling wits in these final four match ups. It's a who's who of the first page of the leader board, and a journey through time to see some of the most tenured players on the site battling it out in team play action. The road for each clan to arrive in the final four was tough, there are no byes to this stage of the competition and only strong proven clans have what it takes to advance to even the elite eight. What has been most impressive about each one of these clan's journeys in the heat of raging battle has been the class and sportsmanship each has demonstrated along the way. Without further ado, a quick preview of the match-ups. (All rankings are based off of Farang Demon's July Algorithm 400 Rankings )Semifinal Match-up #1 #6 The Spanking Monkeys vs. #4 The Horsemen of the Apocalypse It is difficult to capture in words the magnitude of the first meeting between TSM and Thota back in 2009/2010. It was #1 vs. #2 based on everyone's opinion...and the war lived up to the hype. In an 80 game slug fest Thota pulled out a 41-39 victory in a war that had over 16956 views of people checking the status. Only Kort/Tofu CC Cup 1 final four and Thota/Kort CC Cup 1 finals have ever had more views. This rematch is going to be a match up for the ages well worth watching again.Clan Bios and Route to the Final Four THOTA This is not your CC Cup 1 Thota squad going to war in this one. They have made some huge roster additions to already formidable line up. The closest thing that comes to mind is baseball's New York Yankees. They are hungry to avenge last cup's loss in the finals and they dismantled the Bullet Proof Bandits and knocked off the #5 ranked Agents of Chaos to get here. TSM This primate themed clan is the CC equivalent of the elusive Sasquatch. Not many have ever played TSM, but everyone who has comes back to the rest of the clan world with wide eyes frozen in terror and shock and tales of super-natural strength. TSM sat the first CC Cup out but has done anything but in this one, knocking off The New Crusade, A Fist Full of Sixes, and the highly regarded #7 ranked Legends of War.Semifinal Match-up #2 #3 Empire vs. #2 The Knights of the Round Table In another rematch of epic proportions, Empire and Kort will again battle en-route to the cherished CC Cup. In last year's Elite Eight, Kort knocked off Empire by the score of 25-15 on their way to claiming the first ever CC Cup. Empire looks to exact its revenge and prevent the repeat. If the signatures in the pre-game thread are any indication of how good this challenge is going to be, it's going to be a damn tasty one. Clan Bios and Route to the Final Four Empire Empire was ranked #3 coming into the grand tournament, but questions swirled around the clan's ability to deal with losses of key personell and how they would fare with a change in leadership structure. With convincing wins over Death by Comity and Nemesis Empire began to formulate an answer. However in an elite 8 showdown with #1 ranked TOFU, Empire rendered a resounding answer to any questions about their clan in the brutal style of a Ghengis Khan beat down of TOFU (33-15 at press time). KORT The defending champs have plodded along steadily (as cows will tend to do) devouring G1 and #11 ranked highly skilled albeit drunk FOED along the way. The squad is essentially in tact from last season and it will be interesting to see if that is enough to take home a second Conqueror's Cup. To take home two cups in row would be an accomplishment perhaps unrivaled in the clan world considering the incredibly tough road to get one. Another successful final four would assuredly mark KORT as the clan to beat in all of the clan community. Judging by the insane number of thread views in last year's final four, this stands to be one of the most followed events on the site. If the incredible level of play and sportsmanship continue through these final games, we are all in for quite a show.
All Comers Cup Update by alt1978 (PR) show
Correction: I regrettably must begin this update with an apology to VDDL for a slight made against them in my last article covering the All Comers Cup. I erroneously and ignorantly stated that the Team Ohio clan was the most regional clan on the site. Measuring 40,953 square miles, Ohio is over twice the size of the VDDL's Netherlands. Thank you SirSebstar for the head's up. It rarely pays to assume that Ohio is the best at something...so the blame lies squarely on my shoulders for that one. Updates: The Pigrenters knocked off One Step Ahead 20-19 moving on in a challenge that was too close to call last issue. The Angels of Death also put away the Risk Attackers and A Fist Full of Sixes closed the door on Always Kicking Ass. The Speluenkers of Hell defeated the Legends of the Zone in a close finish, but in the most exciting upset bid of the first round, Manifest Destiny is still slugging it out with the Grim Reapers. Round 2 of DJ Teflon's All Comer Cup is getting set to kick off, with a Waterloo game between the Grim Reapers and Manifest Destiny standing as the last piece of the puzzle to determine the matchups. In an exciting twist...the second round matchups were determined randomly in a live chat draw, keeping everyone in the dark about their matchup until the absolute last minute. The tournament will unfold as follows: Second Round MM v NEM GG v AOD MD/GR v LOW BSS v DYN SOH v BoFM LEG v TOFU AFOS v FOED PR v AOC Third Round 3rd Round 1st tie: MM v NEM winners against GG v AOD winners. 3rd Round 2nd tie: MD/GR v LOW winners against BSS v DYN winners. (Winners of these two ties face each other in the Semi-Final) 3rd Round 3rd tie: SoH v BoFM winners against LEG v TOFU winners 3rd Round 4th tie: AFOS v FOED winners against PR v AOC winners. (Winners of these two ties face each other in the Semi-Final)
Spice up your clan by BlackKnight_6 (TNC) show
The study of group dynamics suggests that there are several stages that can occur before several individuals can properly form into an effective group (bear with me here, this will connect in some way to Conquer Club and clan life). This stages are: Forming - when the group comes together Storming - a period of conflict as the group works out issues of differences Norming - a settling-down period in which a code of behaviour is (overtly or covertly) established Performing - after going through a period of storming and norming, the group is now much stronger than before, and can begin really accomplishing things These stages are fluid. Many groups don’t get past the storming stage. Others may go through several storming and norming stages. But all agree that these are worth it to get to a point where the group is performing (ask any teacher or human resources manager). These stages have also been found to repeat themselves when groups form online, and the clans in conquer club are a perfect example (see? I told you I would get there!). As the great Master Fenrir said in his Hardballs column “You don’t join a clan to make friends. You join a clan to make enemies”, which suggests to me he has lived through various storming episodes. I have seen examples of storming and norming in my own clan, TNC. When I started this column, TNC had not won a single clan war. Now we are into our fifth win in under a year so we are at last beginning to perform. Getting through the storming period and norming period is vital to the success of a group’s performance. I’ve been exploring how clans can add variety to their various activities which may help them do just that. This is my last article in this series, so I thought I’d review here some of the areas we explored. Have a rotating leadership position (or figurehead leader), won by internal tournament. This will give everyone a chance to have a real stake in the clan. See issue 44 for more details on this. Hold regular internal events such as 1 vs 1 tournaments or squad wars. This will help in group training for clan wars. See issue 45 for more on this. Use your clan forum for other things than just communicating news or setting up wars. Allow a space for informal chat and communication among members. See issue 47 for more details. Encourage clan members to add a bit of variety to taunts to your opponents in clan wars. Make your own images or video taunts to boost morale. See issue 46 for more on this. Set up a system to deal with serious crises within the clan. This could be a formal kind of tribunal or just informally, but it's best to be prepared for any future storming. See issue 50 for ideas. Finally, to stop things becoming stale, maybe try a variant on the typical clan war format. I have suggested at least three in issue 51 . Variety is the spice of life. I hope that the ideas in spice up your clan can help make the clan experience a more fulfilling one for all involved. As one of our clan members said in a forum “Being part of this clan for me is more about just fighting wars. It’s a great place to hang out too.” Encouraging words for any leader!
