Re: How about a COW map?

Postby dana1971 on Thu Nov 03, 2011 6:18 pm

Hi Isaiah40,
I've updated my super size application.
Was thinking:
Small 750 x 567
Large 1000 x 751

I have the image at a much higher resolution if the good people at CC think it should be bigger.

Best Wishes,
Dana

Ok, I'm going to wait to stamp draft stamp this, until it gets supersized.

You may want to consider renaming the thread to something like Beef Cuts or something along those lines.

The one thing I love about this map, is that I can take it to my butcher (who does not speak English) and show him what I want. Everything is there from a good steak to a nice joint for Sunday lunch. Glad to see this one being continued.

As for a name, Beef Cuts.

Moved! Awesome... I'm looking forward to this map and I like the name Beef Cuts better than simply Cow or Conquer Cow.

Also... Lord of the Flies? that is a book that had little to do with flies or cows... I'd suggest a rename on that territory.

Can you please get your title on page sorted...

Re: Prime Beef

Postby dana1971 on Sat Nov 05, 2011 7:45 pm

Hooray stickers.

I like the name "Prime Beef" better than anything with cuts in it.
I named it cow at first because I thought if someone herd the name they would know instantly what the map was.
But I'm happy to change it. What do you all think of Prime Beef as a name?

I noticed some people have a cool code where they have all the older maps hidden on the front page which can be seen if you click on them.
Like this page for example:
http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=241&t=107186

How do I do that with my thread?

I will do my best to get the title page organized, but I don't use forum's that often so you may need to let me know if I've done it wrong.

Best Wishes,
Dana

A couple of things. One you are going to have to change Lord of the Flies to something else. That is a name of a book and movie. Secondly, you are going to have to add in some impassables to keep this from being totally open. I know, cattle don't have impassables on them, but for a game they do.

Yea, but the muscles are wrapped around the bones. Using bones as impassbles would keep with the theme.

Interesting comments.

Here are my thoughts.

In terms of impassable barriers, I over-layed a skeleton over the map, and it just looks messy. I do however feel I have a solution. I can add fat deposits that would look similar to the fat that you get on the edge of a cut of beef. This way I can put the barriers on any edge and it will look good.

I do wonder if barriers are needed look at a map like "Conquer 4 Map". That has no barriers and it works.

In terms of the name for the Fly region. I am aware of the book "Lord of the Flies" and think it's a really cool name. Who wouldn't want to be the lord of the flies?
If possible I'd like to keep the name. Would I need to change it for legal reasons? As I understand the law I would be able to use it because it's a parody, but I'm no expert.

I am working on the XML code and wondered how much space do I need for the numbers? Foe example do I need to make space for a four digit number.

I will post a new version of the map soon.

Best Wishes,
Dana

With the impassables, I have been having the same argument in my thread (Knights) and see no reason why you should have them, but it can make for some interesting game options. Giving players a choice around the map would make for a better type of game. Make the right choice and you win the game, make the wrong choice and you may lose. I would say to put them in your map and using the fat is a great idea (use it). Will have a look at give you some suggestions on where to place your fat deposits.

As for Lord of the Flies, it is in the public domain so you can use it for anything. It is one of those phrases that is now part of normal vocab so it cannot be copyrighted.

These are between bonus zones.
Neck and chuck/shoulder
Brisket and Foreshank
Inner skirt/plate and standing rib
Top flank and tri tip
Rump and ox tail

These ones are inside bonus zones
Top neck and neck and cheek
Rib eye cap and back rib
eye of round and rump
chuck eye and chuck

That should give your players plenty of choices around the map. A thin layer of fat should not mess up the map too much. ;)

Hi dana1971

suggestion for impassables: butchers knifes that cut/slice in to the meat and creating wounds between the areas

Don't worry about the XML right now, as the map will go through plenty of changes by the time it gets into the Final Forge.

How the hell does this thread even have six pages of posts and a supersize stamp, let alone a draft stamp?
