Edred's death led to confusion among the nobles of the West Saxons. The next in line to the throne was Edwig, the thirteen year old son of king Edmund, Edred's older brother. But the church was favouring his younger, more pious, brother, Edgar. Others were arguing that the kingdom needed a grown-up, proven, commander at the helm. The first among them being the powerful earl Athelstan of East Anglia, who had already earned himself the epithet "Half-King".
In the north, a year after the battle of Castleford, where Edred was slain, King Erikr was assassinated. His son Gamli immediately pointed his finger at the Saxons and declared that his father would be avenged.
This tournament will be 1v1, single elimination. The first two rounds will be single games, after that the quarter finals will be best of three, semi finals best of five and finals best of seven.
When signing up please state which royal claimant you support. (Edwig, Edgar or Athelstan)
If you know of any other personalities from the era that you feel could enter in to the story, you are very welcome to play for them (like for instance, an invasion by the Scottish king.).
