[Official] Regarding Spamalot...

Post by AndyDufresne »

Well Conquer Club Community,

What we've learned from Spamalot is we need to reiterate our forum policies, for all users and the moderators. Forum users have made it clear they do not like the forum-wide spam. No one appreciates having their thread ruined or having to muddle through numerous off-topic posts. This goes for every forum, including the Social Lounge/Off Topics Forum.

Random conversation threads are OKAY, as long as they don't overtake the Social Lounge/Off Topics Forum. Just because Tom, Dick and Harry started a thread, doesn't mean you have to too. Spam outside these few threads, e.g. hijacking threads just to have your own conversations, posting a page full of smileys, or just infusing other unwanted mental diarrhea, will be frowned upon. If we see this starting to happen, warnings will be issued and threads may be locked. Forum bans may follow if it continues. You'll also notice we're cracking down on unwanted Flame Wars threads as well, per our current policy of no bigotry. Expect clarification on that soon.

So, in conclusion, we will be restoring the Spamalot topic, though unfortunately only up to the latest back up we have available, so some posts will be missing.

I believe Conquer Club as a whole can learn from this all and step forward into a better future. So lets smile, be happy, conquer our enemies, and eat a banana or two.

Thanks again for making Conquer Club my favorite website zoo,

I would like to apologize for the recent actions involving the deletion of threads from the Social Lounge forum. There had been a recent trend of unwanted spam in threads throughout the forum, including hijacking of threads for random off-topic conversations. The culmination of which resulted in the deletion of certain threads from the Social Lounge. I agree this was not the best way to handle the rampant spam overtaking the forums, but we’re all human and prone to mistakes. The best I can do is apologize, acknowledge the mistake and learn from it.

Andy, I thank you.

AK, I thank you as well, and your apology is accepted, as everybody makes mistakes. The mods will always be welcomed in Spamalot, as long as they follow the guidelines themselves (i.e. Bigotry is the main one), and don't try any monkey business (with the exception of Andy of course ;)).

very well handled as I knew it would be...in fact its almost exactly what I posted you'd say.

disagreements help clear the air sometimes. What is nice to see is that there really are so many people who care about the place.

I said we will be 'restoring'. Which means Lack will restore it, when he gets to the backup. I'd expect it back up within a day or two.

(I think it is....)

Mistakes are human... I believe this sad incident will only make CC a better site. We should all learn from what happened and try to be out own mods.

I think the mods should clarify just what spam is, because the social lounge could be anywhere from 10% to 90% spam depending on your definition of spam.

I want to thank all the mods and lack for giving this the time it deserved.

AK, I would like to thank you also as it does take alot to stand up and admitt you were wrong, but as hecter recently posted we are all going to make mistakes. I am glad to see that you are willing to admitt your mistake.

Wicked thanks for trying to keep the conversations about this calm and collected while you guys were trying resolve this.

I think this is the most important feature to come out of this dispute. I'm neither a fan or enemy of spamalot and am happy to let them get on with whatever they do in there. However I hope what is stated above is kept up so that spam outside of the few ''spam threads'' is stopped.

Very well, I'm happy this is resolved. Hopefully, it'll get cleaned up a bit. The 'Spamalot' crowd kinda took the brunt, but there are many more (won't name names, don't need to) who might fly under the radar a bit, who should be affected by this.

i think i am in agreeance with alex here. i have nothing against the majority of spamalot (some are even ok for a laugh) and as long as they do not spam the backside out of other threads, let them spam away in their own.

FYI - I hope to be able to get the Spamalot topic back up in about 24 hours. I need to finish my work on XML Modifications and Variations first because restoring a backup now would wipe out my testing scenarios.

One thing we forgot to mention. When Lack manually reinstates the thread, the post counts will not be updated. It's a good thing you guys said you don't care about that!
