New Points System *Rejected*

Post by Caleb the Cruel »

Recently there has been a lot of rank discrimination. Players with a lot of points are not willing to play with lower ranked players. This is because they do not like the dis-proportioned points that they stand to lose. For examply in one of my games, a player said that they weren't sure they wanted to play because they would lose 32 points and would only gain 12 if they won. So I propose a new game option; when making a game, you would be able to choose the points wager. This way every player would stand to lose the same number of points whether it be 5 points, or 100. This would alleviate a lot of rank discrimination that is caused by the current point system.

Note: I am not a programmer so I am not completely sure this is easily possible, but it's worth suggesting.

Nah - I like it the way it is, why should you get the same number of points for beating a cook as you do a colonel?

IMO this would be open to abuse, with one player 'donating' points to another through wagers, particularly multi abuse. Besides it is not just about the points. I like playing higher ranks for the challenge - it is very difficult to win and you know that someone isn't going to play irrationally and ruin someone's chances for no reason.

It would also make the points system less meaningful - someone could prey on clueless new players and convince them to bet high points so they could shoot up the rankings easily.

Anyway just my two cents - I understand the thought process behind it, but I think it just wont work practically.

This has been suggested before, and I'd really like it as an option. Maybe we could have two scores. Your normal score, and then your betting points. You can transfer points from your two scores (for a small point loss, of course. Probably about 10, 15 points per transfer) so that if you REALLY want that rank, you can take 50 points out of your betting points and put it into your normal score (but only gain 35 or 40 of those points), or, if you're running low on betting points, you can take some out of your normal score and put it in their. Right now, I'm thinking that what I just stated is an awesome idea, but then again, I'm pretty tired…

Although I agree that it does open for abuse, I also believe that people do act irrationally now because of points. I have been in at least two games where one person was obviously not going to win so they suicided against a lower ranked player and let the higher ranked person win easily by destroying lower ranked peoples continents, ext...

I don't support the idea, but it couldn't be system wide. It should only be allowed as an option and not as the rule. If some games could be wagered on while others are scored as normal, that may work out. Some of us like gaining points the old fashion way.
