I heard about this. The city passed some ordinance on ow much mercury can be dumped, and BP doesnt like it.static_ice wrote:This may be old to some, but ever heard of the "environmentally friendly" BP? Well they plan to quadruple their mercury dumping into Lake Michigan, which supplies the majority of America with drinking water.

Just out of curiosity, are you sure about this? I know it's a bloody big lake, but there must be some pretty bloody long water pipes involved to supply the majority of Americans.static_ice wrote:Lake Michigan, which supplies the majority of America with drinking water.
and besides, lake michigan? What about lake superior?Stopper wrote:Just out of curiosity, are you sure about this? Hmm. Your source is ambiguously worded. I checked here, and it saysstatic_ice wrote:hmm whoops the great lakes together supply the majority of america, not lake michigan

but still its 95% of america that all 5 lakes supply, and that 5% is mainly hawaii and alaska
I think that means it holds the equivalent of 90% of the US supply, not that it actually supplies 90% of the US. I seriously doubt people in Los Angeles drink water from the Great Lakes...The Great Lakes...hold an estimated 6 quadrillion gallons of water, about one-fifth of the world's fresh surface water supply and nine-tenths of the U.S. supply.
I know the SF bay gets ours from some lake near Yosemite. I think LA gets it from the Colorado River.Stopper wrote:Hmm. Your source is ambiguously worded. I checked here, and it saysstatic_ice wrote:hmm whoops the great lakes together supply the majority of america, not lake michigan

Not that any of this matters, it's just that when I first read what you said, it took me aback a bit - don't you ever get localised droughts in the USA??!

I'm scared for life. I'll never think about the Great LAkes in a non-perverted way now.static_ice wrote:its the shape of a big penis how much sexier can it get?Coleman wrote:f*ck Lake Michigan.

Heard about this, already signed it, I think. Kinda gives you the idea that maybe the fact that BP hasn't dumped billions of gallons of oil in the Arctic doesn't make them environmentally friendly. Oh, and the Great Lakes system contains 90% of American freshwater, but it doesn't really supply that much. Seeing as how rank the water is in much of it (have you smelled Lake Erie lately? I mean really gotten your nose down there? Wow) that's really a good thing.static_ice wrote:This may be old to some, but ever heard of the "environmentally friendly" BP?
