Re: What are these stars?

The inventory page says those stars can be sacrificed for the chance at something better. Is that just a better (rarer) star? Are the stars just for bragging rights, or is there something they're used for? I saw a bunch of stars mentioned on the tournament pages. Do you need to have those starts to ...

Re: What are these stars?

Ah, never mind. I found them. They're inventory items that can be "sacrificed" to the "CC gods." LOL And I guess they're awarded at random...?

What are these stars?

Back on CC after a several year hiatus. I missed this game. :)

Something new (to me) I notice whenever I log in is I'm awarded a "star." This morning's was the "drab star." What are these? I did some searching and found that they're used in the tournaments, but I can't find a definition chart or ...

Re: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

The port could accurately be downtown but used by armed forces to send boats up and down the river to bombard riverside points uptown :D
Yeah, I could probably sneak a nautical-themed icon into Bonnie Doon (where the dock is). It would basically have the same function as the airport, except it can ...

In a warfare situation, the riverboat might be used to bombard points along the river...
Good point. I'm wondering how I'd fit that in, though. The port is downtown, and that area of the map is already pretty crowded. I could always put the port in the northeast or southwest, but that would make ...

Re: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

The biggest thing that I don't like is the wide openess of the map. Let's see some choke points where I can take an hold. The bonuses look impossible to get.
Hrm... What about if you could cross area boundaries (e.g., Downtown to Southgate, West Edmonton to St Albert, etc.) only via the LRT ...

... replace the outlaws with cities and the lawmen with capitals.
That would remove one of the major reasons I like this idea. There's already a map for the Western USA using cities and capitals. The lawmen/outlaw take gives it a unique twist.

There's no longer anything "Wild West" about it now ...

Re: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

I didn't get any replies to my earlier post, but I made a preliminary map anyway. Maybe this will get people's attention (hell, even a "this idea sucks" would be better than silence).

Here's the large version of the map (798x800):

You know what? Fine. Screw it. I'm rescinding all the ratings I've given, and I'm not rating anyone any more. This whole system is a farce. I give up; you status-quo-ers win. Frankly, your mass illogic has beaten me into not caring any more.

Whatever. You people do whatever you want. I will continue to rate people as described in the Instructions . I refuse to subscribe to the "everybody wins" or "5 stars as default" mindset. If you don't impress me in a match, then you're average, and you deserve three stars.

Re: Normalize Player Ratings (Average = 0) [Stickied ~ TFO]

Can't exactly use that in every argument, because if it doesn't work, and everyone starts complaining, then someone will have to go through and negate any 0 rating that was given to the players as they change it back to old system.
Uh... One short perl script would fix that, if anyone wanted to ...

A lack of ratings won't tell much either ;) So he has a 0.1 rating. Maybe he played 100 games, and only got rated by 20 players, and the rest didn't. That wouldn't accurately portray how skilled the opponent is.
I believe the point of half this thread is that the proposed system cannot be any ...

Re: Normalize Player Ratings (Average = 0) [Stickied ~ TFO]

I do not understand the "everbody's a winner" attitude that motivates people to rate everyone as "outstanding" (5 stars).

The system is broken (i.e., it doesn't work as designed). There are three possible solutions to this:
Do nothing. CC goes on using a ratings system that has become absolutely ...

jrh: Why are you so fiercely opposed to this idea? Is it because you're worried about losing your 4.7 "above average - outstanding" rating and being seen as merely "average" (which is what 4.7 represents now)?

You are correct in that only 5%-ish of the CC players will deviate further than 0.1 or 0 ...

Re: Normalize Player Ratings (Average = 0) [Stickied ~ TFO]

On the current system nobody has ratings below 4 and THAT we know is not true.
The current ratings system reflects the current mindset in the developed world right now: "Everybody's a winner!"

In the real world, not everyone is above average.
Don't tell the public school system that...
