I actually agree with this one. I almost always play casual ( ... and definitely don't want changes there!). However, on the rare occasions when I do play speed games, I want just that ... speed. I would not like to see a shortening of the 5 minutes, but I cannot see a legitimate reason why someone would miss more than one turn unless they are not coming back.
I do realize that there are computer situations, but either they are resolved in a couple of minutes, or it will take time. Why should the other player(s) have to wait? The worst that would happen is someone would lose a game. So, basically you are weighing someone getting kicked off sooner than they might wish, versus making the other player(s) wait around an extra 10 minutes. (and note, I was recently kicked out of a speed game, about the only time I have evern been kicked out of a game ... I had a computer issue. The extra time did not help me, it just made my opponent wait extra)
The main thing this will do is help ensure that people play speed games when they really have the time... and STRONGLY discourage attempts to use missed turns as "strategy".
If a player misses two turns in a speed game they should be auto-kicked.
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
You join a speed game to play a quick game. I hate sitting waiting while people forget about their speed game or are playing too many of them at once.
If someone looses a connection during a speed game then everyone else is forced to waste 15 minutes of their time.
Where I see the value in this suggestion isn't from someone losing a connection (which really doesn't happen that often), but rather for the numerous times when someone starts to lose a game so they just freaking quit. I actually had someone tell me I was a "lucky dice noob" and drop the game on me last week IN THE SECOND ROUND OF THE GAME.
This would help tremendously for those situations which, quite sadly, happen all the damn time in speed games.

dude. things come up all the time. leave well enough alone.
Please note this is note at all recommended for "casual games" The rules are fine there. This is for speed games. For instance, I jumped in a 4 player speed game at 18:57. This game is still going and it is 21:30! Red missed 4 turns now. Green missed 4 turns. Although green missed 3 in a row so got kicked. In my opinion this absolute kills the "speed" game feel. If I wanted to casual I would have played it.
This happens to me often.. 2 turns total in a speed game is more then enough time. If you can't work within that you should be playing a casual game. Just my thoughts. Please feel free to elaborate.

let me elaborate! there will never be a perfect system. get used to it, and quit crying. dont play speed.

In a speed game? If it is something that really cannot wait 15 minutes, then its probably not the time for you to play a speed game. Just play casual.
(note, "things coming up" is one reason I would like to see folks able to switch from speed to casual ... something discussed earlier... but the possibility would have be agreed in advance).
I still think this is a great solution to games like the one I just played that was over 3 hours. Red missed 6 turns, green 4. That is 50 minutes of twiddling thumbs as I usually try and watch the speed games. It is really frustrating. I stand by my belief that miss two turns your out in a speed game. Maybe it should go to a poll?

"Things coming up" is precisely why this suggestion is a good one.
I took a fresh look at the postings. The only place I have sympathy for your idea is where people just give-up and quit a speed game half way through. To that end I'd say your better off lobbying for a "resign" button.
Sad thing is, if the change was made in a few months someone would post: "Kick after ONE missed turn in Speed Games"
The missed turn problem is annoying at times but so is life.

E.G.
At the very least it should be maybe changed to 3 turns total. Like I said I had one guy who took a turn would leave for 2.. then take turn.. it was almost of it was strategy.
I see your point though but I don't think that would go over well. I mean "speed" games should be "speed" games and not miss turn games.
