After Alfred's death in 899, his son Edward succeeded him (the first Edward, not to be confused with Edward the first, who ruled in the mid-13th century).
But Edward's rule was contested by his cousin, Ethelwold, who claimed to have more right to the throne than Edward.
So I'm going to need volunteers to represent Ethelwold's rebellion, let me know when you sign up. If one of the volunteers wins the tournament, then Edward was defeated at the battle of the holme, and we're changing history.
