Name this kitty

Post by Juan_Bottom »

Hey all. I rescued this kitten from certain murder at the hands of another cat. It's mother abandoned it here, and it tried to nuzzle into another litter. The mother of that litter tried to kill it. I've been watching the poor thing outside for 5 days now. It didn't have a friend in the world. After really thinking it over, I decided that it would be best if I adopted it.

But I can't think of the right name. Its an orange stray with blue eyes. I'm not sure on the sex yet. And it is literally terrified by everything. To complicate that matter, the poor thing isn't very good at being a cat. Earlier it tried to pounce my hand but tripped and landed on it's own face. I laughed hard and it got scared and hid under the couch. That made me laugh harder.

On another note:

Cats that are abandoned by their mothers, or even those that are weaned too early, can be problematic as pets. They can develop all sorts of behavioral problems... the mother cat usually teaches the kittens acceptable/unacceptable behavior, this cat obviously lacks all that so it can become aggressive when it gets older, and it can be harder to housebreak... when you say that the kitten "is not very good at being a cat", this is actually literally the case.

I do applaud your decision to rescue an animal that would face certain death, I just hope you know what you're getting into... if you're not sure that you want to keep the cat even when it acts badly, if you're not sure you'll have the patience for it, then you should just give it up to an animal shelter. If you do keep it, you should look for instructions on how to care for a kitten that is weaned too early.

I suggest the name Dr. Mcgillicuddy after my old dead cat. Your description of him fits my X-cat to a T. He's an Orange Tabby rescue, who is afraid of everything and terrible at being a cat. That's exactly how dr. mcgillicuddy was! I'm convinced that your cat is the reincarnation of my previous cat.

P.s. if he is be on the look out for urinary tract infections. Don't feed him any food that doesn't list meat as it's primary ingredient. Also cat's can't digest grain or corn. You can take my word for it, I work at a pet supply store.

I believe you when you say it's cat food that's good for cats and is made for cats and definitely for cats that are cool cats.

But still...

LOL!

last year we took in our 3rd cat (we never get one from a friend or buy one or w/e, we only take in kittens that we find helpless on our property) and we never had any problems with either of them, they were all very smart and behaved well. the one we have now never made a mess in the house, if u dont count taking a dump in a flower pot a couple of times, which certainly is a lot better then doing it on the rug :) so I guess u cant be sure how is this cat going to behave, Id keep it for sure.

Not-a-Cat.

So it doesn't feel bad about not knowing how to be a cat.
