11-Nov is Veteran's Day. It used to be called Armistice Day, celebrating the end of WWI which took place at 11:00 on Nov-11.
No, he's right. He's just Canadian. Memorial Day is an American thing that we have nothing to do with here in Canada. Instead we have Remembrance Day on November 11th. A song played with the trumpet, who's name I can't remember ATM is played at 11:00am to remember those that were lost.

Makes sense, as Canadians have little need to memorialize the American Civil War.
