For the effeminate men who don't grow a lot of hair, it's not necessary. For those of us who went through puberty, some trimming is in order. Not complete depilation, but keep the jungle at bay. Much cleaner.

It depends on your priorities in life:

On the one hand, manscaping makes it nicer for the ladies.

On the other hand, if you don't manscape you end up not needing a bath sponge.

I generally don't talk about those things.

How is it boasting to say "Yes I shave my pubes" or "no I do not shave my pubes"? You make no sense, teazer.

I thought I made it clear I'm not going to boast. 8-)

By the way, did I ever mention I'm significantly Irish?

I do care about the women in my life, and I like women to be as nature made them, straight out of the Garden of Eden with no artificial enhancements.

My ideal woman wears little or no cosmetics, little or no artificial fragrance, she has no synthetic chemicals polluting her skin, and she has no tattoos. In most cases my women have had pierced ears, but nothing else. I definitely would not kiss someone who had pierced lips or a pierced tongue or anything vile like that. I do not ask my women to shave their pubes, and on the two occasions that I dated women with shaved pudenda I asked them to discontinue the practise. Conversely, I present myself in the same state. Just before I met my current wife, I was dating a Quebecois woman who asked me to shave mine. I refused. We broke up soon afterward, although that wasn't the reason, so I don't know if I might have eventually given in if she'd continued demanding.

Far from being uncaring, I care very much. However, I my aesthetics revolve around being a mammal, completely in tune with what my chromosomes have prescribed for me. I loathe artificiality, and I loathe people mutilating healthy bodies. I think you should be proud of what evolution has made you. I am not afraid to till the soil with my bare hands, and I do speak to the trees. I am in tune with my animal nature. I am perfectly comfortable with my male body, and I am totally delighted with the female bodies I have encountered. I do not ask them to modify the perfect form that evolution has given them. Most of my women have shaved their legs and armpits, and while I don't completely support those actions I have not tried to stop them, because I know they are deeply ingrained in our culture, just like the ear-piercing thing. I draw the line at pudenda, though. It is utterly disgusting to take a perfectly healthy furry beaver, so cuddly and fuzzy and comforting to touch, and mutilate it.

And yes, I've had to pull some hair out of my mouth many times. It's part of the ritual, no different than picking popcorn out of your teeth after a movie.

Dukasaur, do you shave your face or cut the hair on your head? Or trim your beard? Or wash, brush your teeth, clip your nails? I'm sure you alter your body in some ways; you do not live as a beast.

Yeah, I do. I try to keep it reasonable. I shave my face in the summer when it's hot, but not in the winter. I cut my hair sufficiently short that my bangs don't fall in my eyes and obscure my vision. Actually, in 1984 I was hanging out with some skinheads, and I did actually go skinhead for a couple months. Couldn't stand it, though. I do cut my nails and stuff, of course. I like things natural, but I'm not some kind of radical extremist. Practicality and hygiene do get their fair hearing.

Of course I bathe every year whether I need it or not. That's a joke, for anyone who isn't sure.

I suppose a lot of our attitudes are formed early and never change. My ideas of beauty were formed during the 70s. The idea of women shaving their pudenda didn't come into vogue until the 80s, and at first it was just porn stars and whores. Normal, non-sex-trade women didn't start doing it until the 90s, and I don't think I heard of a man doing it until sometime in the 2000s.

It's not just aesthetics for me, though. Some people of my generation (very few, but some) did have pierced noses and stuff. I was always opposed to the damaging of a healthy body. Maybe it's because I've seen a lot of suffering. There are so many evils in the world that will hurt you; the idea of helping them out by hurting yourself is morally appalling to me. I guess sometimes when I talk about this I muddy the waters by bringing in two very different things: on the one hand there's my actual moral indignation at things like piercings that do real damage to otherwise healthy tissue, and on the other hand there's my purely aesthetic preference for the hippie ideal of a simple-living chick coming out of the garden wearing nothing but a burlap sack. It's sometimes a little confusing about whether I'm talking about one or the other. If I was writing a formal essay I would carefully separate the two, but in casual conversation I'm guilty of mixing them all together.
