Saying you support the troops is quite different, if you actually help the troops.
Wearing an American flag pin, means nothing, unless you help your fellow American!

Most countries have days of national recognition for the troops. Here in Canada, Remembrance Day on November 11th is a pretty big deal.
May 30th, with its origins in the American Civil War, is a uniquely American holiday and not marked in any other country.
